Why is this word used so abundantly? I mean, seriously, it's not really that big of a dis but people get offended by it so easily. Since when did picking up something new and just starting it become a bad thing? People are so afraid to say, "I'm new to _____" why? What's the problem? I'm fully able and not afraid to say, "Ya, I'm new to this, never done it before." Well...Thats my 2 cents, just needed to say it.

Well I am not sure who is getting offended, the person being called noob or the person calling the guy noob.
But I shall answer to to my best.
The person being called noob might not know what the word means. Some people don't like new words and might take it offensively even if it could be a good word.
If the person who is calling the guy noob is offended it might be that he doesn't want a guy who doesn't know how to play in his group. Since people who don't know how to play can ruin the team plan and lead to trouble.

First off, we must realize that there is a difference from calling one a noob, and calling them a newb. The first is meant as an offensive name that usually relates the person being called one and a person who whines alot or types in all caps or other things that may seem childish, immature, and most of the time, are new to the game.
Being called the later isn't necessarily a bad thing. When one calls another a newb, they usually call them that because they are new to the game and don't have the basics down yet, but unlike a noob, they are not rude or obnoxious and are fun to be around to help them.
Now, as to why people overuse either name is beyond me. I suppose it's to be on the bandwagon and sound cool.

no, I mean, the word itself...Is used way to much...I remember when I first started to play Guild Wars. I was getting excited off of nothing...the minor things, first blue drop, first purple drop, first gold drop, and so on. Because I didn't know much, people would say like, "Hey noob, don't talk to me Noob" or something instead of offering help or pointers. I do my best to offer someone I meet respect, Pointers, Tips, and so forth, but for every person who does that, there are 10 people waiting to humiliate him or others try to make fun of him by calling him a "noob." It happens everywhere, It scared the crap out of me when someone got a 3/15 on a test at school and someone called him a noob. I felt like hitting the guy who said noob so hard...but I didn't.

Thats why I like the Sim games. Sometimes I like being mortal so thats why I have Guild Wars.

newb or noob.. I don't use both. U can better take the time to typ a sentence and say what he is doing wrong, than just say noob/newb or w/e.
most of the time is the person calling someone a 'noob' pretty noob himself. but just knows a little more.
the 'best' players IMO are the ones who know much AND are willing to help others who don't know.
so yea, its kinda up to urself where you place yourself ;)

i dont find it offensive when used to me cuz i usually outwit the guy calling me a noob. i got this once in ToA i was new and decided to say that am new and lookin for a nice group that wouldnt mind helpin me learn the basics for survival or just give me a tour so i could learn better teamwork. instantly some guy was all up in my face tellin me i was a noob and all that until eventually almost the entire district called him a noob and told him to shut up.
even my guild did the same things. i left the next day.
i can see why it can be annoying to those players who actually are new and are being told there useless and such.
mostly its the people who say noob that are the real noobs.

and i hate it when a dude thinks that 15k armor makes him a god and all otheras a noob. had this once.
some guy in 15k armor dyed black with no titles was calling a guy with full tyrian explorer a noob cuz he didnt have 15k armor until eventually i said "all your 15k armor proves is that ya know how to farm. so while ur spendin time farmin for a crappy bit of armor hes using hardwork to fight all across the game".

Despite having several sets of 15k i totally agree
but then again it depends on what you like better farming or exploring
tastes differ lets always bare that in mind

I call idiots noob all the time if it's really necessary, I don't want to swear because I dislike getting suspended the whole time... it's just often it's the only way out unless you want to waste 15 mins of your time thinking of perfect grammatical sentences using new words you just recently found out about in the thesaurus -.-
seriously, if you're like for example in AB with your newly made up build which you are proud of, and then suddenly get stalked and eventually killed by some toucher which then calls you a noob and laughs at you, you don't get mad? ohhh yeah this is just a game. I am mature and don't fight with people on the internet, I am really cool. ffs sometimes I don't understand the logic behind that, just makes you mad later or keeps bugging you in ur mind, where else if you just simply call him a noob and add to ignore you feel better.
what's the problem? if you call somebody a noob you're automatically a dumb person with low IQ or imature? who gives a damn what some random person says you will never see anyways in RL... sigh, there are just way too many internet tough guys and people that get offended too easily and then like to act all mature and rule-defending with their " i will report you " and " grow up kiddy / get a life " threats -.- lame.

I can't get a hold of what you're saying! First you say ONLY when it's necessary. Then you say FFS (I think you know what that means)
THEN you say it bothers you when a toucher calls you a noob, THEN you say people get offended too easily...

the on-topic part: the word Noob is part of the game-culture, if you like it or not. I agree it isn't nice, but who has never said something like the f-word or something like that? It's just the power to say anything you like without getting punished on the internet, that's why it happens that much all the time. But hey, that's just my 2 cents.

People use "noob" or *gasps* "n00b" left and right because that makes them feel more knowledgeable and superior, while it's mainly a filler word for narrow minded losers who can't come up with anything more elaborate.
Think "Your mom jokes"... Except typing a whole sentence is too big an effort.

If I have a build I'm proud of, and a toucher kills me and calls me a noob, i don't get angry...its a toucher. There 500 of them out there, they aren't new, they aren't unique, they are just like everyone else. With my new build, I've just designed something outa the ordinary. If it has to be altered to survive a toucher, I'll do that, And if he calls me a noob, I don't respond. Not because I don't have anything to say, but I don't even want to talk to someone that has to resort to the easiest, most commonly used dis just because he kills you.

Alas, the argument that will rock the ages. I beleive a topic such as this should be mentioned in every presidential debate as a foundation on which to choose the next leader of the free world. The both of these words are meant to be, and were made for the use of, geeks. Geeks, gamers, nerds, dweebs, dorks and the lot. I use nub instead. Its 1 letter shorter. Speeds up the process.

imho if you find yourself clicking on the chat box and about to start typing the word "noob" take a minute and stop yourself. if the situation merits that insult take the time to type out the formal form of the word, n(O_O)b. if typing that out seems like too much effort, then it's probably not worth typing and you should keep your mouth/keyboard shut.

to my homeboy next to me while we wer
on the MJ Effect ^_-.. but not only
from guild wars, but from Warcrat 3
and like Counter-Strike.. we did some research
and this is what we got and thought of
when you argue with sumone in real life,
you will cuss at them, make fun of them
or even threaten thier life just to
let them get on to your level.
To get them on your level, you usually
say something like YOUR MOM or like
GO SUCK A D*** F*****...
well in games, the most they can do is go to
the old boring YOUR A NOOB comment
because we researched it and so many
people wouldnt shut up just because
i was calling them noobs, so me and my
friend just sat down and read everything
and just... loled
xD i would love to see the flamers
right in my face 1by1 and see if they
call me a noob with my 22m or my 17
