| Guild Wars Wiki vs GuildWiki |
|
|
|
As of lately, I have been pondering why A-net created their own wiki. At the moment, the original wiki has got over 18 000 articles, whereas the official one "only" has got 13 000 articles.
The question that of course begs to be asked is simple. Why is the unofficial wiki still up and running?
One of the things that differ them, is the amount of information. The original wiki (here referred to as Gw) has got a lot more useful information on the different skills, and they have also got a lot off different suggestions on what skills that can be used in combination.
The official wiki (here referred to as GwW) has got a vastly better, and more informing graphical look. The information is presented without much clutter, and we have the talk pages with izzy, gaile, andrew, and etc...
So which Wiki do you use? What are your reasons for using one over the other one? And, which of the wikis is the best, the one that will be the most popular?

The official doesnt have as many articles, so when they dont have the one i want, i go to the unofficial.

Unofficial all the way! I HATE the official one. The front page seems to cluttered and awkward to me, whereas the unofficial one has a better flow and is easier to use. GWW has less color and appeal, I personally like color. Plus the unofficial one has more info, more armor pics, and suggestions etc. I personally don't get why the official one is up actually. Because everyone was fine with the unofficial one because it is just simply better imo.
quit gw for good. end of story.

I used to use mainly the original unnoffical wiki, and then go onto the offical one when that original was down. I only use the official one now tho...mostly because i can't remember the popper addy for the original wiki :(

Both are useful. Guildwiki has always helped me in the past, and i like it because of the large amount of information on skills and minor characters. Guild Wars Wiki has a nicer layout and much better graphics on armor, plus it has the easy /wiki command, so you can open it from GW.

Well I always go on official guildwiki to check armors, Best armor pictures I say. But if they dont have something on a article, then I go to unofficial guildwiki, since they tend to have more articles. Plus sometimes they havea little extra to it.

If I compare The same talk pages from the Official Wiki and the Unoffical Wiki the ones on GW are much brutal then on the GWW + You have a direct link in GW(F10) to the GWW. And Gaile posts daily on the GWW
Edit: The Armor pics on GWW are way better, because Emily Dielh gives us the renders

Yeah the people are the unofficial wiki (and ones on PvX) are asses half the time, which is why I use GWW. Plus I can update it with better info rather having a reverting match between people on the unofficial one.

Hmm It shows how much I keep up those types of things I didn't know there was two of them. I use the Guild Wiki some never knew the other. The only forum I use is this one. I'll use PVX Wiki for ideas on builds but mainly use Guildwars Gamependium for ideas cause of its search is way nicer.
I'm neither here nor there but everywhere. I am who I am and nothing more but yet I'm nothing less than what I strive to be.

I agree as with any build you see posted, (Even the replies on builds on here, by some that act as if they are the best build makers, I don't like not cause they are bad ideas just not good for me). Thats why I said get ideas. I may use parts but as my playing style is different I always change a few things to fit how I like but I usually use the other site I listed as there is better ideas to start from in creating your own.

I use both. That way I get to search a bigger info pool. I don't really have a preference for either, as they're both good, but I do like the fact that the official one is linked to the F10 button in game. Just makes it nice and simple.

please don't take this the wrong way, but as it stands, and i think it is possibly because the wiki's have more people adding to them, AMPGW has a lot less info about things than wiki does.
I know this is a fan site and the people the run it have lives too, but, and taking the elites section for exaple here, AMP currently just doesn't have all the cap points even in proph areas.
This is quite possibly why people go to the wiki's for the info...
Tho this is just ATM, i'm sure soon AMP is going to have all the info on everything :D
(P.S) if you want non-staffers to take some of the updating off your hands then i'm sure some of us will be welcome :D

I have recieved a few more applications this week for staffers, and I do believe we will be hiring a few more that are interested in helping updating the sites (both the database and this site)
I do understand that both are out of date and the current staff, especially Kanna and Daz are taking it upon themselves to get it all up to date for you guys!
Hopefully the newest version of core will be out very soon so you guys can all upload your own info easily but remember using the version that is out now helps as well because all the data we get is uploaded right there automatically!
I didnt mean for it to sound so harsh it was just a reminder that like umm yeah we have a site here that the devs worked hard to give ya. I use wow wiki myself along with our AmpWoW site.

Why would you say something like this? Obviously people post their builds on there to share with others so that everyone can earn money from farming, do better in PvP, etc. Some people just aren't as creative as others. I myself have never been able to come up with an effective farming build on my own. I always use someone else's or take their's and tweak it a little to my play style.
To say ,"I hope they get rid of it so people think of their own builds" is kinda like a doctor saying, "Figure out what rare and deadly disease you have on your own," or a lawyer saying, "Prove yourself innocent...I don't have the time to do it."
Just because you disagree with it, doesn't mean that everyone should have to suffer because of what you think. PvX was put there for a reason.....to present builds to people who can't figure them out on their own (like I said, not everyone thinks alike or is as creative as others). If you don't agree with that...then don't post any builds of your own on there or ever visit it. Problem solved.

I use both Wikis, some has info that the other one doesn't.
I like the Builds-Wiki too because it can give me ideas, I might tweak builds to be better (or worse). It is a community site so why close it down? It is like trying to forbid studying together...
