So far I like it. Played a bunch this weekend (about 300 gamer points worth). In general I found the rangers to be the best all around class as they are able to cause a lot of degen + interupt the ele's/monks
Also I found that the RTs are a much better healer to have on your team then an actual monk. The monk build is just not effective at keeping the party alive.
The derv is the better tank as with the heavy conditions his avataar makes most of your attacks useless (SF, Burning arrow, poison arrow crip slash etc)
Necro is the worst (which I hate becuase that is my favorite class) I am not saying they aren't playable just that IMO they are the weaker build of those available.
The sins can be deadly but are very easily stopped via stances or blind.
So what are you takes on it. do you want it to come back? I do

I don't. Every single noob that plays this game goes to costume brawl. "Oh kwl, new cstumez, woooot!111!!1" >.< It's a combination of RA and AB; what do you expect. People don't see how you cap, or kill, in most cases. It's a waste of time, actually. I rather stick to my GvG schedule, to get the champion points coming:D

Ah how quickly we forget how we began. I still remember when I went to RA with a rotting flesh build I made up thinking man this will own. I couldn't figure out how my whole team kept getting diseased for at least 2-3 matches. Someone said wth you doing you noob. And of course I said huh? then he was actually nice enough to explain and I quickly changed my build for the next go around.
Now I will admit there are many people who play who don't understand basic PvP concepts, and it can be quite frustrating. But don't forget we were all there once. Great thing about this is that one noob won't wreck you whole team and when you get a decent team it can be quite fun. The cool part is that people with little PvP experience can quickly learn the builds they are up against, since they are basically the same, leveling the playing field quickly.
But I respect your opinion so I guess it is 1 like and 1 dislike ;) enjoy your GvG

I dont like it, there are to many people who dont know how their skills work and dont know that capping shrines can turn the tides.

I sorta enjoyed it. I playd the ranger and managed to basically 1v2 any other combo of people - everyone was pretty bad. Though two ele's were slightly hard to shutdown.
I'd sorta like to see the maps implemented as hero battle maps. But I'd like even more for them to be fixed. The map with the teleporters would mess up hero AI so bad. Plus I'd like to see that one get the energy shrine replaced with a health shrine, to counter the battle cry shrine which is oh so nice and powerful.

To be fair to the comments above about shrines turning the tide I have never been in the hero battles so I didn't really understand how they worked. Took me a couple games to understand that aside form the bonus you get from capping the shrine they actually contributed to how fast you got morale points. Overall though capping the shrines will not win you a match. I found that killing the opponents was a much quicker way to obtain 20 points then just running in circles. I usually get my team to cap 2 shrines right away and then try to pick of stragglers capping along the way or make a stand at the a shrine with a good bonus.
Other key PvP concepts overlooked.
1. Need to spread out the presure. Unless your whole team is in on it it is hard to spike.
2. Need to pressure the monks. I havbe had many team them kept trying to kill this warrior while I was the only one attacking the monk. Naturally they picked us off one by one.
3. Dont run into spirits. If they are trying to stay in their spirits go and cap until the move away and decide to fight. You CAN win by simply capping if they choose to sit still.
4. LASLTY you can't win alone. If you decide to solo cap know your limits. Dont run into a group and think you are gong to survive. Not only do you die but you give them a temperary numbers edge and a point towards victory.
Well anyway like I said its a good learning enviroment but sometimes frustrating.

I agree, everybody´s been like hat, but that doesn´t mean they make wrong builds, ´cause all builds are standard."New" people don't even take the time what their skills do, which annoys me as hell. I had a group of a few assas, an ele, me as paragon, and a ritualist, probably the most balanced group you can think of. Thought wrong. The 'sin started his combo with HotO, because it caused a fast KD. (>.<) I kept spamming my shouts and chants, but the rest of the team didn't cap, nor did they kill. In a match some people go "Omg can some1 liek teel mee huw i get behind teh gaurds???/??/?" This annoys me, really. I, for one, always go wiki the point of something before I actually play the new game thingie. This way you prevent your teammates from being annoyed, and you feel much better yourself, because you know what the game is about then. This is just my opinion, not something you may have to take personally.

I really love it bec it shows who is the better player bec of the same skills.I'm really good at it.:D:P
I think the assa is the best bec of the teleporting and the his/her speed of moving, killing. Only dervish can survive it.

i like the way its all balanced out and there's no "meta" to look out for. it really puts the player's actual skill to the test, i like that.

i liked costume brawl but i think it was to normal game oriented. i would have loved special halloween skills like we get for snowball fights or dragon arena. using real skills just makes it seem like less of an escape. i loved getting faction from kills. overall, it is fun but it doesnt provide enough of an escape from normal pvp for me.

i liked it.. didnt get to play much due to work but i wracked up 10k faction in an hour or 2 unlocked some stuff and went to sleep :) the ele build was pretty good for shutting down the sins and warriors with blinding capabilities... had quite a few of em run away from me 1on1 (they didnt quite complete their escape :P) actually only class that gave me a hard time @ all was the dervish

the warrior is the only class i played as, but they were really good.
I actually LOVE the game itself. you can't do anything abbout the people either and, yes, i am equally as frustrated as teh rest of you. I know we all begin somewhere but.....christ....
anyways. cap battle cry shrine to win. A warrior with battle cry is unstoppable. (bull strike)

I played a few matches on my ranger and monk. I would have to say I hate costume brawl as a monk. I manage to win 2 matches in a row with that abysmal, hideous, horrendous build. Just makes me want to throw up thinking about it.
Ranger on the otherhand has the best build that is currently used by humans. I found it hard to use it with that low amount of energy. It was very hard to interupt someone for some reason...
The idea is very good with actually making people show their true skill. The only problem I see is noobs taking those builds into real pvp.

Warrior build= Good (prefer a shock axe though) shield bash is fun.
Ranger build= Good though I don't interrupt much with the current opponents.
Monk build= Sux.
Rit= Kinda cool.
Ele= I hate steam. I don't like sf either. It's a good build but lacks healing.
Sin= Lol, they took a good build and devalued it by falling lotus- just to keep things fair. =) Nice mobility, and quite generic.
Para= fairly good.
Mesmer= Nice, I'd like a speed buff though.
Rest= Fail.
I like the general play too, I'd LOVE to play with normal peeps/builds on the same maps.

I think it is a great Festival event for the casual player. Myself and others think it's pretty boring but overall, most people think it's fun. ANet couldn't make something EVERYONE loved. Allways someone complaining...

Hmmhm ok, you must learn to state your own veiws correctly. Do not call another a "noob" because they do not agree or have the same taste in what you like to play. That is one ways of starting a fight and the surest way to lose it. If you could have just said that you did not like the Costume Brawl it would have been fine, the fact that you called everyone that plays that game a "noob" is a negative comment to a lot of players. I can gurantee you that there are a lot of those "noobs" that could beat you. Please do not take an offense, becuase none was intended. You have to keep in mind when people do not know how to do something does not mean that they stink or are not good at something they just need some time to grasp what they have to do then I bet they will become good at it. Can you remeber the first time you GvGed I doubt that you were very skilled at it. You had to get to know how the people in your team played and I bet you are very good at what you do.
I personally think that the Costume Brawl is fun, but after a while is does get boring.

well i have played with all the prof's except rit and derv so far. They all have thier + points and thier - points.
I found i didn't really like the warrior build, i was kinda of dissapointed A-net had just gone to PvXwiki and pulled a crip slash off there for it. The mesmer was ok, tho i personally didn't get very far with it, that isut me and my style tho. The necro and ranger i liked, the necro i did best with so far really liked degening ppl into the earth. The ranger was also sadly an old burning poison ranger, but it is a nice and effective build, and it works well in the arena. On to my favorite, the paragon. When i first saw the build, on paper as it were, i thought "what a horrible build, ewww", but i played with it and after the first match i actually realised it was very good. I myself have not played (i don't think) as a paragon in PvP since the NF PvP test weekend because i got owned so horribly on it i thought "hell no am i gonna pvp with THIS again", but playing the costume brawl build has actually got me excited about playing as a paragon in PvP.
Now i just need to try the Rit and the Derv, not my favourite proffesions in the world, but you can't have a full judgement of an experience or an application like the brawl arena if you don't try every aspect of it.
P.S i <3 the brawl arena :D

I think the Costume Brawl is fun ,but its hard to get into a good group. It's ether due to new people to ab/ra or they just don't know how to run their build. Well at least thats my 2 cents

way too many noobs and idiots, aswell as slow loaders and leavers which just take all the fun away...if you could atleast form the team urself -.-
out of all proffesions i liked rit the most, as long as there was a dervish or warrior on which I could spam nightmare + ancestors and splinter on the rangers ^^

Cool lots of feedback.
Just a tip for all those who are having trouble interupting. Try bringing a shortbow and learning how the other player cast.
It pretty easy to interupt an Ele as they use SF glowing gaze SF Liguid SF I triy to disrupt the SF and interupt the liquid flame.
For ranger I like trying to get poison arrow as it greatly reduces their effectiveness.
For monk Signet of devotion is the easiest to interupt, although disrupting healing breeze hurts them a lot since most just spam that.
Rt i try an interupt preservation and disrupt one of their damage spells.
Warriors are fun cause healing sig is so easy to interupt
Derv's who wait to cast their avatar until they are already in range find themselves quite frustrated
Key is to pick a skill you want to interupt and understand how and when it is used so you can almost predict it.
Again a shortbow is the key to interupting in the costume brawl.
