It would be cheaper to build your own computer. Tho if you just want to upgrade you can get a new motherboard and processor + some ram which is a new computer that should range $400-$500 then you just need a OEM of the OS. Windows xp would probally be the better way to go but if you want to try vista out your more then welcome to.

yeah a friend of my dad, has a hobby of building nice comps and selling them on ebay for $1000 profits sometimes :)
building comps save tons of money and customization is easy enough. I can't remember where I found a guide to one that was easy to follow though...

tiger....direct...
*ROTFLMAO*
/cough
anyway, I laugh at you for purchasing from tigerdirect, but hey, if they didn't screw you out of a warrenty or anything, kudos to you.
Anyway, building a computer is not as simple as following an online guide, though it can be, but is not advised by me.
But I got a sweet Acer comp off newegg (special deal, not on there anymore)
But I would check out some of the comps newegg has, and usually they have one or two desktop PCs on sale.

I agree....though I havnt had any problems with Tigerdirect, I have used newegg much more often, and they have superb customer service.
New processor arrived with bent pins, I RMA it back, then notice there policy says they cant replace bent pins. So I get on their webchat and let them know they were bent when I recieved them. Next thing I know, I have an email from a supervisor with my sales order # and tracking number for the replacement CPU.
RMA a monitor back as it worked for about 5 minutes then suddenly stopped working, they got it back and for some reason the RMA inspection area only checked the local warehouse, and they were out of stock so they refunded the monitor. I went on their chat again and talked to them, re-ordered the monitor as it was in stock in their other warehouses, and they even bumped the shipping up to 1-day shipping for free. Because they are suppose to check all warehouses instead of just the local one.
All-in-all, the few problems I have had(which was just this latest order) was all patched up in about a weeks time(had to RMA it back, wait for them to process it, and ship the new stuff back out).
Newegg also has lower prices then TD (at least 9 out of 10 times). And, they are local here in California, so even without 1-day shipping....I get it the day after they ship it. :P

professional opionion as a computer tech, gaming computer on a budget like that.... keep saving
and speaking of tigerdirect.. they mailed me a defective cellphone, then charged me $50 + $20 shipping to exchange a $150 phone for me... so the $150 phone cost me $220.... find another store

Dell Outlet - XPS 410, Core 2 Duo at 2 ghz, 2 gig ram, dvdrw, sound, 512 nvidea 7300 le, vista
going to run you around $700 without a screen and will run GW at 1600 resolution, my brother has one that runs wow at that just fine at 30-40 fps.
Thats about as low as you can go IMO but 410s are a good chipset and mobo, nice machines for a gamer that cant spend the money.

I built my computer umm about 2 years ago and was building one a year for 5 years before that sometimes building 2 a year.
Make sure you earth yourself (to discharge any static before handeling any components).
Get on a proper tech forum check the specs of every component before you buy.
Getting something cheap you will find that allot of stuff will be incompatible you might have to build this computer 5 times in your head before you buy a single thing.
At the end of the day I got each peice one at a time and ended up spending thousands over that 5 years. I saved money but I got good stuff for guild wars and probably guild wars 2 you would be just as well to buy a cheap laptop and accept that it will be a mediocre in a few years.
I spent a fair bit on my last one and its still good for gw at top spec its a 3 gig p4 the best agp gfx card that came out before pci express (yes this is an old computer) one of the first motherboards to have sata... now they have sata 2... typycal i would have had to upgrade about 3 times in the last 2 years just to use most of the new things out.
if you build your own you can move some stuff out of your old one but from the sounds of things you will need to buy
new mobo
gfx card
new power supply (they have a seperate power for the cpu (and they keep changing the connectors to make you buy more crap)
possibly a new case depending on the size of the mother board.
new heatsinc and fan (one normally comes with the cpu)
if your computer is on that you got from say dell... or some generic place then it will be a keep the monitor and keyboard and bin the rest nothing fits redy built cace and allmost nothing can be upgraded on them. they are the disposable nappie of the computer world ;
dell, compaq, HP.... that kind of pc world stuff they are smart in that they might as well have you rent your computers i had a redy built one and noticed that even the powersupply was only just enough to keep there setup running and would auto cut if you added more... not that it wasnt rated for more ... they put a cut out in to stop you adding a second hard drive etc... mean ol ****s.
ok now im ranting again and i dont think people read my posts anyways. i am in the uk so any prices or shops would be useless here is the one i used to use

If i can get an opinion in, 1 GB of ram is enough to run GW but these days 2GB can make you happier :) Also Dual/Multi-Core CPUs seem to be flooding the market and they are also very good i think more then one core in a cpu helps it stay cooler too..
my 2 cents

That will run GW. Should run pretty good. I would ask them how much it would be to bump up the memory to 2GB.
