School shooting in Finland

Yesterday as many of you might know an 18 year old man started randomly shooting people at school in Tuusula Finland. Seven people died. Now i know this might not be a big deal to bigger countrys like USA, but to us it was quite an shock. Might this school shooting been copyed from USA? What are your thoughts about this. (and sorry if this isnt allowed to be posted here.)

RE: School shooting in Finland

what i really think of this is because, strangers or people these days always judge a book by its cover. if not by cover, its by actions. either that kid was really smart and people
wer just making fun of him, and he couldnt take it anymore so he had to kill those who made him feel un-comfrotable, or he just had something against those seven other kids.

if it was the first thing i said, im really sure it happens alot because it happens alot over here in the USA, but its still preety shocking to us, because i guess people these days just dont realize, thier just mean and they cant accept people for who they are.

finally a good post about something
because i have been wanting to explain to people
why these shooting happen. This is my opinion on it
and if you agree with me, then right on! if you dont
i would love to hear your side =D

RE: School shooting in Finland

From what ive heard he shot 7 Students + the Directrice of the school dead. 8 deaths and some people are serieus injured.

I also read that it is legal to have a gun in Finland, but they almost never have an shoot incident.

But good luck everyone in Finland and especialy to the Family's of the victims.

RE: School shooting in Finland

Actually, I doubt that it had nothing to do with people judging him, as the shooter himself said, the reasons for this were political and he wished that this wouldn't be labelled as another school shooting. He described it in his manifest as the war on the weakminded masses, and that he admired tyrants, such as Stalin and Hitler, and how they managed to enslave the "stupid masses" to work for them.(This is not my opinion, this is what he's known to say)

As for the political part, he said he found our current democracy being uneffective and that violence is the only way to make a difference. He thought that the power should be given to the few "thinking and intellectual" individuals and that the few individuals that weren't weak minded like the "masses", had only 2 options: Either enslave the weakminded mass or kill everyone.

This is what is known, NOT my opinion.

And it's 8 casualties: The headteacher, 7 students (2 girls, 5 guys) and a school nurse. Also, 12 wounded but only has a bulletwound.

**EDIT**
Oh, and the spooky part was that he had released videos about his plan before the day he committed the massace. I think he had released a video few days earlier in youtube, named "Jokela high school massacre, 7th of November". It got removed from Youtube but I guess you can find his vids on other sites.

Hmmmm, let's see. Instead of looking for the real cause of this tragedy you are trying to put the blame on the USA.

Violence is prevolent everywhere, not just in the USA.

Do we have more events like this here, yes we do. Is it because we have leaner gun laws then most countries, yes we do. Do we still have the greatest Constitution in the world, yes we do. That constitution protects our right to "keep and bear arms", along with many, many, many other civil liberties that most countries don't have.

There is no other place in the world that I would rather live then right here in the good ol' USA. And I have been all over the world too.

Everytime someone does something it always gets referred to us. Well guess what!!! Your society created the kid that did that, not ours. So accept responsibility for it and don't try to pass the blame.

Just my 2 cents, hope I didn't offend anyone.

The guy had taken influences from the Virginia shootout aswell as from the one in Columbine. No one can deny the fact that he had picked up influences from the shootings that happened in the US.He had copied lots of stuff from them that were shown on his videos. BUT aye, it's not anyone's but his own fault that he decided to commit such an act of violence. We see lots of crap each day and yet we don't take bad influence out of it. I see a dog take a leak at the street, do I do it? No. usually.

And an off note: We finns really can't afford to cast pointing fingers at other countries since we do have one of the highest suicide rates from wellfare countries alongside with Japan.

***EDIT*** Ye, he was picked on at school, actually. :P

You know whats really sad is that a video of what he was gonna do was posted on youtube by him from what I've heard and no one was able to stop it. This is once again why their needs to be police, metal dedectors, and other things like the sort to prevent this thing from happening again.

I could be copied from the USA i dunno, it could just be random maybe he was driven to the edge, but it can happen anywhere at any time, i go to a small school in a town noone has probably ever heard of or knew existed among other towns of the same and its hard to belive but it can happen there too, but then it would be on the news...

Being random is lovely! You never have to think about what you are going to say!

I'm so glad guns are illegal here...
Though saying that I live in Notts, the gun capital of the UK, apparently.. *rolls eyes*.
Sympathy to the dead people's families, in any case.

I was in Finland this summer, and it really didnt seem what you might call 'violent', but of course that is a sweeping generalisation, and it's only one bad egg that's spoilt it and gone on a rampage.. and if he really did love Hitler and Stalin then he must be insane..

Edit: haha..I misspelt stalin as starling. One's a cute bird, the other's a dictator. Can YOU tell the difference?

Also: That sig above me is possibly the funniest thing I've seen all day.

Here you need to apply for a permit to own a gun. The weird thing is that he got a permit to own a handgun. He got the permit just few weeks before the massacre. Most guns here are for hunting purposes (rifles, shotguns) and it makes me wonder how they allowed a teenager to own a handgun. And for the permit, you need to tell for what purpose the gun is used for, and I guess in this case it was for a "hobby" as in shooting at a shooting range or such.

actually there were 9 victims as the shooter shot himself to the head after the shoot-out and didn't die right away

This got a lot of attention in Swedish newspapers, I haven't read all details yet tbh but I know the big picture, it's horrible it had to end this way :-/.

Yeah, me too. It's probably because I still go to school myself (college but hey).

This will probably end up getting blamed on some stupid crap like the music he listened to or the games he played or the movies he watched...

If someone just took the time to listen to the kid this probably wouldn't have happened.
