i was temporary banned today, 11/15/2007 @ 3:31am,
for 72 hours... >.<" OMG! wow just becuz i reported a guy,
im the one who has to suffer it? wtf, for that reason,
i dont even think im gunna report people anymore, no matter
if i find out thier exploiting, even if they are doing..
ANYTHING against the EULA, i dunt think im ever gunna
report anymore. Screw it. I was almost done with my Mission
but they disconnected me right there.
Anyone know how to fight the three day wait? as in, sending
anything to anet? or anything u did to make A-Net realize,
THIER EFFIN UP BIG TIME! thats why i dont even think imma
play GW2, becuz of the number bullShhhhhh they always pull.
anyways... Any [HUGS] guildie, or [AMP] alliances out there,
reading this now, confirm everyone, Krytanium The Great is
Temporarily-Banned Because of "racial slurs?"
xD i dunt even know if i said anything about a race.
all i usually do is say WTF! or make stupid happy faces
xD <= like that...

It's pretty uncommon that they'll suspend you for racial slurs as a mistake. Are you 100% certain you didn't say anything ANYWHERE that could be seen as racism?
Either way, I would just wait it out. Sucks that it happened, but what's done is done. By the time your support ticket is answered the 3 days will be up.

In all this I can't find a few things:
- Who did you report?
- What did you report him/her for?
- What was ArenaNet's reason for the ban?
I'm just guessing but just erronously reporting someone wouldn't get you banned. So you probably did it in such a way (you mentioned racial slurs?) or so frequently it constitutes harrassment, at least on the surface.
P.s. They have an appeal procedure, it should be mentioned in the Ban notification afaik.

if you reported and a-net think it's not fair you reported that guy they ban you for the reason you reported him
if you don't report anymore then it's ok because you can't go wrong if you do nothing
by the time gw2 is out i think they will have lots of improvement so don't worry

i reported this guy named, No names! or sumtin, idk
but it was in KCenter AED-1 and he was just a little bully,
to everyone, and when i told him, *stfu, your a noob too u
little punk a-- kid!* and he was, "XD" and "LOL" was all he
was saying and then he finally left and PMed me and he said
EFF THIS, EFF THAT, and etc.. and hes like EFF YOU! and when
i tried to comment him back, it said i was already ignored,
so i was like, screw this... /report then nothing
happened, and i did it like 10 times, then a thing poped up,
said the user had to be there int he same district to report
and... 30 minutes later... BAM! WOW! right after i got my
Bow of The Hierophant.
I never said anything "Racial" WTF?

no i didnt say anything racist, and i know for that
for a fact, i did get in an arguement with a guy
but it was not bad as u think it was, it was the
smarta-- talking argument sorta thing...
seriously right?

Sorry to hear about your situation as from what I've been reading, you only wanted to put this person in his place and report him for being a jerk. Perhaps that individual was looking for an argument and was trying to be a pain just to report people.
I've seen stuff like that happen in GW and other MMO's...
ex.
Person A = jerk, troublemaker
Person B = bystander
Person A goes around an area and 'bullies' other players. Player A basically pushes players around him/her enough to where they create a confrontational situation with Player B via Private Message.
Once Player A has a victim, Player A will then push Player B's buttons until Person B starts to get heated and start to curse/shout/etc. At this point, Player A just sits back and lets his chat fill up with obscenities from the already frustrated Player B.
Now, what Player A does is block/ignore Player B, takes a few screenshots, and reports Player B for harassment in which case, Player B ends up getting banned.
Unfortunately, in this situation, "Anything you can or say will be used against you" holds very true.
An email with a screenshot will most likely hold more weight and be dealt with in a quicker manner as opposed to simply using the /report command.
As I've said before in another thread, stop and ask yourself, is there even a remote possibility that my account can get banned/deleted? Then just don't do it. When reporting a player, don't confront them about what they're doing wrong and don't stoop to their level and curse at them. The tables can be turned against you as it happened in your case.

Euhm...Be smarter next time... Don't offend anyone, not even if they call your mother names.. Just report them, no need to do anything else..
And reminder: telling a joke to your friend on whisper which might be wrongly interpretated by a filter they use, could result in a ban as well..

Well like i said, i typed, /report
then... nothing happened..
im like, somthings suppose to pop out.. where is it?
and so i typed it in again, nothing. So i spammed it on
chat twice. Then i walked towards storage, got rubberbanded
and then i started where i zoned in from the map, i got
laggy and then u hear the block noise, and it said
"blah blah blah, that person supposed to be on same district"
and im like wtf? then i bought sumtin, and then when i was
in the mission. BAM!

You can never be too sure. i dont know if there are filters etc that take out certain words or phrases and how long it takes to process them. So it could have been automatic. i wounldnt jump to any conclusions.

Ok, I doubt that player could have laid on the baiting any thicker if he tried. Golden rule Rule of Thumb for any MMOG (paid sub or not): if someone is baiting you, he wants you to become angry and respond. So what do you do? Give him what he wants, or what he doesn't want? He's out to annoy you, why give him the satisfaction?
For these folks any form of attention is what they crave. They're so sad even negative attention will do. It really is best not to give it to them.
Besides, when did having an argument or a fight in a MMOG with a complete stranger ever resolve anything?
Btw, why the heck doesn't GW have a time-out on repeat reports like every other game has?

yeah but i skimmed through the EULA, i used the Acrobat on
this so i can find any certain words i wanted to find,
and about their language and stuff it says,
There is a(n) language option made to filter the restrictions
of the inappropriate words and phrases.
and the only time your chat log gets searched
is either if your the one who reports or if sumone else
reports you.
I wasnt even the target of that guy
everyone was mad at, he just started PMing people
becuase when i stayed there and i bought the bow
i needed, everyone was still talkin Local Chat
saying, damn this foos PMing me its annoying...

Hey, I agree that from your deion, it sounds like they banned the wrong person. You let yourself get baited. Sounds like you weren't the only one.
Sadly, when it comes to Customer Support, you get what you pay for. On average $1,- out of a monthly sub of $15,- goes towards Support budget. In ArenaNet's case they outsourced to their distributor NCSoft to save money.
They don't really keep PM logs of everyone for instance, only when someone is under investigation. So PMing people in a public place, enticing them to respond in anger over global channels is a "nice" way of getting people banned, assuming Support reps are stupid or not caring.
Regardless, punishment should fit the "crime" and be back-traceable to the crime. I.e. when you get punished (banned) you should at least be informed of what you did, in a little more detail than a general blanket statement.
If it was for something you said a week(s) ago, then it's really too late for punishment.
As it is now, you don't really know what you did wrong, or if you did. That's counterproductive. But I've long held that the temporairy bans delt out in GW serve the purpose of ArenaNet being seen to act rather than to accomplish anything in the form of preventing the offenses.

I wish Anet would allow you to report someone even though they're not in the same district as you. Countless times I've went to report someone for trying to sell Access Keys, only for it to say I can't cuz they've switched to a different district and I have no idea where they went. Although I could see this causing a problem being able to report people anywhere at anytime but still. I get so aggravated when I try to use the new report system to get someone banned that really deserves it and then it tells me I can't cuz of blah, blah, blah reason. Heck of a lot of good that does me -_-. Anyway, back on topic...sorry to hear about your ban dude. Seems as if Anet was in the wrong on this.

On a side note:
With any NCSoft game, the profanity filter is not intended as a carte blanche to say whatever you want and blame the crappy filter if someone takes offense. It's intended to filter "casual swearing" and "mildly offensive statements" that are often considered 'cool' in some cultures / age-groups while not in others.
Most EULA's being a 'conract' of things you promise to adhere to (and statements to prevent you from suing them) and not a deion of features, will not even mention the filter, unless to point out that purposely trying to misspell terms filtered out or otherwise seeking to circumvent the function of the filter is considered a breach of License.
In other words, saying "F-ing noob" in stead of "Fucking noob" could get you banned under said EULA's despite the fact that F-ing doesn't get filtered. Since "fuck" is considered casual swearing these days, saying "F-ing" which is circumventing the filter is a "worse" offense in lights of the EULA. Isn't it nice how these things have gone from "spirit of the thing" to llawyer-like pinning down of definitions?
Go ask ArenaNet why they banned you, then appeal or shrug it off and play a trial. Most games, excempting WOW have a slightly sometimes even much better behaved community than Guild Wars has.

I have had something like this happen to me awhile back. I didn't get banned. I was getting a team together to do a mission and help out a couple lvl 19s. This lvl 20 ele was the last one into the group an he told me to kick the lvl 19s. I told him no because they were in the team first an i kicked the ele. He immediately started PMing me sayin i was a noob an im fin stupid an blah blah blah (insert offensive insult here) and when i told him yes, i was a noob an whatnot he ignored me...an every once in awhile he would PM me with the same things an tellin me my group was guna die. I didnt bother to report him because it didn't really bother me, I was amused at the fact that he got so mad at me and I was laughing the whole time, that guy was extremely cocky as well, sayin he's the most elite ele out there, an he can kill things in one hit so on an so forth.
I don't have any words of comfort for u Zero, just keep urself busy an the 3 days will go by fast.

Screenshot and contact support thru the support site... That still works because I've reported 2 people tonight for selling gold/serial keys and got the automated response which tells me they've received the report...
It's not as quick as the /report command but at least its a simple alternative...

Hmmmm.......Not saying your lying, but I couldnt find anything about them searching chat logs.

I would say they most likely have an automatic filter that looks for keywords basically, such as curse words, and common filter-bypass attempts. (such as Lani mentioned) It probably pulls a few lines out of the chat around that line then reports it to NCSoft. Therefore that entire chat of the time it happened was probably logged and reported to NCSoft(or whoever handles it), meaning if they found what you said offensive, then you got banned. It doesnt mean someone reported you specifically.

the report system is strange: can't do it during a mission in my recent experience. had a rit leech an entire mission in Nightfall, and luckily we were able to hold our own, but i couldn't report that person for leeching, after i asked politely many times to join the fighting. kinda disheartening that u got banned for being baited if that's the case...
banning must be a real easy way for anet to deal with these situations, though possibly unfair. if they in fact ARE reviewing chat logs before banning, then they shuld in thoery known that u were the victim. free servers, easy fix.
banning tho seems a bit exreme, imo. i think the "temporary ban" from certain features of the game would suffice, like when in they were testing the concept in alliance battles.

what i find the most irritating about the report feature is the fact that the person you want to report has to be in the same districtas you
once i had to fight some moron who pm'ed me constantly saying ''i own u noob'' (he just kept pressing ENTER -> UP -> ENTER) and ofcourse i couldn't report him in the middle of a fight so when we finally won i had about 10 seconds to typ /report + his moronic name (nbuigfaf jhfiehe ?) which was simply impossible....
and after that he just kept calling me name's knowing i couldn't report him as he wasn't in my district. what a moron he was..
