UT freezes when i go to "join game" from main menu

ya, recently my UT started freezing when i went to "join game" from main menu, so when it goes to internet play menu screen before it gets there it just locks up my whole computer, i was wondering if anyone could explain what is going on...

sounds like a firewall / router issue. sounds like the game is getting stuck in a loop trying to connect to the master server...that's just my guess though, never heard of it before sorry.

I have the same thing now for some odd reason.

My PC

LOL TURN OFF CACHE ALL PLAYER MODELS THING LOL.

It's trying to precache all of the actors/everything, lol, it is breaking your computer. Its in the options, on the right side, look through the menus ROFL.

No it's not that... because I had that before and it didn't do shit, and I reinstalled and have it back on and it works.

I started getting this problem after patching to version 3355.. It happens randomly, not always... and most often when the master server is lagged (at prime time).

This is happening to me too - the triggering factor being my old (18months!) adsl modem died and Telstra sold me a new one. I am connecting to the net using the same settings as before but this problem with UT is occurring. Can anyone help please? I have turned off my Mac OS X firewall options (due to what HeaT said about it being a firewall problem) but no luck. I went to my modem/router's address to look at the setup etc. and there is a "Firewall" section but that looks like its set to "off" anyway.

Does anyone have any solutions? Thanks.

By the way, I have tried reinstalling UT 3 times now and tried it unpatched and patched (3355) and the same thing occurs. :(
I'd love a reinstall to fix the problem - is there anything I should know about uninstalling the old copy first? All I knew to do was delete the app, the prefs, and trash any Application Support from the system (Mac OS 10.3.8).
HeaT's said his problem was a firewall thing - how did the other people fix it? Thanks.

Oh ok, Its trying to connect to the master server I guess, and it cant resolve it... I didnt understand the question before i thought he meant it took too long for the games to load.

At any rate, back up and then delete your UT2004.ini, the default one should have the correct masterserver ip/port.
If that doesnt work, then find me on irc and ill walk you through some other stuff to fix it. #2k4tdm /msg |LcD|Cafe-

Thanks Cafe, I resolved the issue after much frustration with Telstra. The only thing that made sense was that the new (and different model) modem they gave me as replacement - the SpeedStream - was not setup like the previous one by default - the SpeedTouch 530. So I bought a new SpeedTouch 530 - which works - and will send the SpeedStream back to them.

So yes it was a router issue but even though I experimented with it I couldn't get the SpeedStream to connect to the UT2004 master server.

Any ideas in light of this? Not that it matters to me now but its only a matter of time until someone else has the same problem. Does anyone use the SpeedStream without a hitch? If so did you have to change anything?

I was having the same problem using the Kerio firewall. Even turning it off, it still locked up. Found this solution on another site: Right click on ut2004.exe, go to properties, compatibility tab and set to Win 98 compatibility. This fixed the freezing problem for me. TTYL.

same thing happened to me with Zone Alarms firewall......I turned it off and kachiiiin the game works now too
