I'm curious to know if anyone else here trys to keep a collection of classical music. BUT not your typical classical music they might play on your local radio station. I'm talking about music that really explores with magic or a kind of dark atmospheric feeling.
From Guild Wars soundtracks to the Fable Soundtrack or even music they play in trailers. Here's a few songs to give a feeling as to what I'm talking about.
You should be able to rightclick and "save target as" on these links.

I mostly listen to Rock, punk, and everything in between there, but I have quite recently taken some interest in classical music as well. I must say, it is quite soothing and relaxing to hear. At the same time, I get struck by the extreme amount of coordination, and how each musical instrument is chained together with everything else in such a perfect manner.
Unfortunately, I don't have any specific songs to show off to you yet, I've only just started collecting classical music, can't really name anything extraordinary yet to be honest. But I've saved your targets, and tomorrow I'm going to give 'em a good listening, to see if I like them. Only artist I think I can name (whom I think not that many people have heard about before), is Edvard Grieg. He's not that bad, perhaps a bit too symphonic to some.
Good luck finding other people interested in classical music ^_^
Edvard Grieg, interesting...I'll be searching for him. Know any good sources? Or heck, I'll just google him.
First song is a trailer song, can't say what trailer it's from becasue I'm not sure if they even used it in a trailer. Midnight Waltz is a song made by "Brand X Music". Brand X Music makes trailer music...well...dur, just for trailers. So I'm pretty sure they don't have any kind of album.
Second song is a group called Immediate Music. They do the same business as Brand X Music. HOWEVER, that song "Diem Ex Dei" is from an album they released as a group titled "Epicon". The group name is Globus. You can find the album on iTunes. Also, that song was used in a Spiderman 3 trailer.
The last song "Ultimatum" is from Immediate Music. Not their Globus group. Just the plain old trailer music.
To BobDown,
If you want to send me some music! (Which is awesome BTW). Go ahead and try by E-mail: xeft@proxick.com
If that doesn't work becasue the file is to long. Then just use a music uploader and Link Me it.
I just started checking out classical music recently. I I and currently listening to Summer and Winter of Vivaldi's four seasons collection. Wonderful stuff.
This doesn't really count as classical, but fits into classical more than any other category. It also sounds like what you like. The Lord of the Rings soundtracks (all of em) are amazing. I listen to em while doing homework, falling asleep, and anything else where I need to relax. I highly recommend downloading them
Belshazaarswrath, if your looking for good classical music to listen to, I'd recommend Scheherazade and Fountains of Rome. Great stuff with really kick a** trombone parts (i play bass trombone btw).
Exofluke: who are the artists for those, especially ultimatum? I really like em

Even though it may be classiefied as "mainstream" or "traditional" classical, my personal favorite piece is "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven. I always thought it has a dark side to it, but imo, if you really wanna sleep well, fall asleep listening to it. Perfection!
I actually first heard it in the very first Resident Evil on Playstation. Have loved the piece ever since.

Ugh, I used to place Trombone, ended up leaving after being to cramped up and hitting the far note and bumping the Coranet players in the back of the head.
But yeah, from when I played musical intraments, I liked vivaldi the best, Spring > Other Seasons
We wonder, "Why?" when we lose friends, and there are never any good answers.
I listen to a pretty wide variety of music. I do have my fair share of classical in my playlist though...

I personally think that the classical music is the music before the introduction of rock (1950s) to classic rock itself. The greatest classic rock bands I personally think are MeatLoaf, Lynard Skynard, KISS, etc... Just as long it's in the 1950s to 1980s, it is most likely that half the major singers/bands will be known for generations to come.
