I just watched a character go punch a guard until the guard killed it, and then after comming back to life, and resting do it again!
Is this some neat technique or could this character be a bot, and if so to what purpose?

ITS A BOT!
yeah its a technique so they can downlevel themselves to make more money and get more SP at a specific level.
They cant get higher than lvl75 so they take their times!
Its stupid i know.

So, will the owner of the BOT eventually play that character? XP & SP can't be traded to another character, so what's the point of this one?

U cant trade any XP or SP.
They use their bot so they can lvl up without playing or to make money while they are afk.
Basically, your lvl become a simple number..from my point of view, you cannot develop good techniques and good teams if you reach ur levels that way.
