| Organizing The Complete Guides for Each Profession |
|
|
|
as discussed in the comments of THIS guide, some people would like to see a complete guide for each profession. Of course, this would be very nice, but we need someone to actually write some of those guides then. So as the current staffer with the responsibility for the guides section, I would like to see if some of the more dedicated members here on GA would like to spend some of their time helping to write up a guide for each profession. We will be working in groups on each profession, probably 2-3 professions at a time.
I will be managing it all, as well as helping out on most of the guides (I've especially set my eye on the Elementalist guide, the person(s) who's going to write up on that will have a hard time^^). If you feel like you have a good grasp and knowledge of a certain profession (or several, for that matter), and wish to contribute to this site, then sign up here in this thread. If you have some suggestions, ideas or tips on how it should be done, write that here as well.
I will be monitoring it all, and bumping the topic occasionally the next days. We will start working on the guides when the next week from now is over. All participants in this project will receive extra admin awards for helping out. How much extra credit that will be given, is undecided at the moment, we are working on that.
So if you want to help, then sign up! I'll PM you afterwards with some questions and an invitation to the sub-forum we will be working at. You don't have to be any good at HTML, video-editing, or such, but it helps. As long as the text is good, I'm good. So sign up now, we need all the help we can get.

So, probably around the 1st of December. It can be postponed though till after New Years Eve, I am going to check how it fits with peoples calendar. This topic is mainly for those who wish to sign up, we will start working a bit later.

That depends entirely on how many people who signs up for the project. I can imagine something like 2 or 3 on each profession, if we take them one by one. I'll be supervising it all though. It's not going to be work, I hope it will be more fun than work. It's a chance to show off what you are good for, to show what you can achieve. So yes please, I'm writing your name up (and Timi as well) ^_^

I would LOVE to do a Monk, Ranger, Mesmer, or Warriorguide. My monk is my main atm, but I know just about everything with mesmer's and rangers. I played my warrior for about 21 months now. I've gotten bored of him but I've spent way too much time and know all the stuff about warriors too.

I would like to do Dervish but some assistance from someone else would probably be needed...for attractive appearance n such. I could do the actual screens and info but someone would need to put it together for me.

I think that a guide for each profession is great, but just some people (not pointing fingers at anyone) arent good at making guides. So maybe like, a group of people could clump together and one a guide for one profession?
'Sort of' is such a harmless thing to say. Sort of. It's just a filler. Sort of - it doesn't really mean anything. But after certain things, sort of means everything. Like after 'I love you' or 'You're going to live' or 'It's a boy.'

May I make a suggestion? Well too bad... you're going to get one...
Wyat, perhaps it would be a good idea to create a template that the guide-writers could work off. What are the aspects of the profession they need to focus on (i.e. armor, common builds, strengths, weaknesses, etc.)? What are common secondary professions? What is their role in parties, etc?
I think if you had a bit of a template, it would focuse the writers' thoughts and the product would be wonderful AND uniform across all professions. It would give them categories to put information into - similar to what mriswith came up with for the Guides template.
Just my 2 cents.

/agree, me and belsh were talking about dervs but i felt that we didnt know exactly what to put in. Without a template it'd just be a jumble of ideas.

Already did that, a very brief one at least. I will expand it as soon as the project begins though, we need to discuss what should be prioritized, what might be missing, etc... But I've got a template ready ^_^
Oh, and it's good to see you post back on the site as well.

I already started working on monk.
The General template is:
Terminology
Purpose
(Purpose picture here)
Weaknesses
PvE
(Sub-Topics like Positioning here)
PvP
(Sub-Topics such as Infusing blah balh here)
Things NOT to do
The Attributes
Weapons
Armor
I Deffinately want to be part of the Monk one. That's the profession I know best next to assassins.

Im short with my time.. study/work and holiday in 22-29 december. Tho i offer my help for anything needed when i can.
I have a warrior (main) monk ritualist assassin elementalist (sucky 1) necromancer (lvl 10) paragon and a ranger.
I'm mostly using my warrior for chestrunning and stuff. got a guide on that already. have done the Critical hit guide too.. (see profile for link there) so I got some exp with doing guides :)
nevertheless... I don't mind helping on any of em but it all depends on my time. so can't promise much ;)

perhaps if we have professions that more than one person wants to do a guide for we could make teams of guide writers.

TBH, monk is (together with the warrior, necromancer, ranger and the mesmer) is one of the professions I would like more than 1 person to write, since they are so complex and diverse characters. I'll get back to those details later though, I am so far glad that so many people have signed up.

i think we should have 2 people per profession, like a pve one and a pvp one. BTW me and survivingsin are gonna work on monk together(yeah i know, me and belsh are doing derv too) cuz he needed a pve monk and i <3 my monk :D. We should start a list with the professions and writers, for example-
Dervish- Azneseguy, Belsh
Ranger-
Warrior-
Monk-Survivingsin, Azneseguy
Paragon-
etc. etc
Maybe put something like this in the first post.

I suspect I'm going to have alot to say about each guide. I've been planning a second edition to my warrior guide, I might as well write that up sometime.

Hopefully you won't. I really don't want anyone who isn't extremely good at their profession, which is why I think each person should pick one profession they want to write about and stick with it. If you split it up too much...it just doesn't work out. Also, 2 people should be the max per profession. Any more than that and it becomes to difficult.
