Opinions on Defenders and Stalkers

Whooooo another fun day in Siren's Call had me all a thinking about the use of defenders (mainly empaths) and the role of Stalkers in pvp.

Now recently I heard from a friend about postings that bag heroes using empaths as back up because they heal the ailing and wounded while buffing them to fight on. And I am sure there will be as equal as many people with bad opinions of Stalkers in pvp. (I must admit as a MM i was hit once in Warburg by one who didnt know what "bodyguard" meant)

Now myself I see nothing wrong with either, because one, i saw many a healing empath go down because they got too close to the action (sometimes not on purpose, TP foe for the surprise factor) and secondly the number of stalkers that would chase after a single target was astounding. (mustve been a team althought my poor MM go no love ;_; )

Now we can all argue and counter-argue over the rules and what is the more game friendly thing to do but in the end guys its all within the rules and seeing how one tended to cancel out the other at times I dont see the problem with either.

I would like to hear some ration thoughts from others (either good or bad) because what I hear and what I see have always been two different things.

Oh and those who are building dual blade toons I would like to see more of an effort and a lot more faith in your builds, i would hate too see large teams of tanks and scrappers running around waiting for a group to attack first before joining in just to run away via an Ouroboros portal when things are getting tough. (yeah i know not against the rules but damn embarassing when you do it)

RE: Opinions on Defenders and Stalkers

In my opinion, I see nothing wrong with either. I hear alot of people bag on the villains for the whole stalker thing as well as people bagging in heroes for rolling in there with an empath.

As far as some sort of PvP edicit, we all have to be aware that there were never any rules set in place for this type of "Fair Play" and in my own opinion rightfully so. This is a Comic Book style MMO, and I'm not sure bout anyone else but most villains don't play by the rules. Hence why they are Villains. I personally can't remember a time when Dr. Doom says to Reed, "Oh i shall wait and let you regain your bearings so this can be a fair fight." He wouldn't cause he wants to win at all costs. Villains are 'cheap', villains fight dirty, villains are prepared to sacrafice any and all friends, allies or, commrades in order to serve their own ends. Now as far as the game is concerned if this stuff happens to me, yeah i get pissed, but isn't that in turn the role of a villain? I am sick of hearing "Whaaaa, he didn't fight fair, Whaaaa he TP'd foe right in to an Assassin's Strike Whaaaa!!!!" C'MON people!! If villains followed the rules then they wouldn't be Villains, they would be heroes. Stalkers they are Assassins, Hence the whole Assassinate AT power, and the Assassin's Strike power attained at lvl 6. Just because Wesley Snipe's Character in that one movie (??Pick One??) was able to spot the Sniper up on the roof 800ft. away doesn't mean that you will. I mean damn, they didn't even spot Crossbones till after Cap was dead, and don't even get me started on the JFK thing. That is their Archetype, is it cheap? yes Are they villains? BINGO! you shouldn't get mad at players for playing out the roles that their character AT's dictate.

As far as Empaths being considered cheap, my opinion on this is:

It feels to me that in the earlier part of both a hero's and a villain's career the game is a bit unbalanced, BUT for a reason.

Most Heroes start out as part of a team and develop a sort of 'teamwork' kind of quality about them, prior to branching out on their own. (yes this can be argued through guys like Spider-Man and so on, but for the most part in comic history this is true) Where as it is the opposite for villains in order for them to be somewhat accepted into organizations and such they must first make a name for themselves. The Villain really can't tend to do this unless he is able to maintain a somewhat descent lived solo career. So in my opinion, Are Villains a tad more powerful in the lower lvl PvP zones? yes Do Heroes often have to team up earlier on in their careers to take down a single villain? yes

By emplementing this in game it can appear as though the game is a bit unbalanced, but I for one, looking at it from this perspective, think they did an outstanding job with this game in alot of areas and especially that one. Now is a villain supposed to be pissed when a group of Heroes foils his/her plan? Wouldn't you if you were that villain?

ok Summarized version:

Does it bother me that someone can roll a villain in a low lvl PvP area that could easily take down a team of 3-4 heroes who haven't learned to work together? NO I'm not going to loose any sleep over it.

Does it bother me that a team of 3-4 Heroes who work well together can take down my Villain in a low lvl PvP area? NO I'm still not going to loose any sleep over it.

It's a game, and if putzing around in the PvP areas is not fun for you then hey what the hell are you doing there, there are other areas for you to putz around in and have fun.

Sorry guys i can tend to be a bit long winded sometimes.

***edit*** Also this is my opinion and other's opinions may vary and i do understand that (figured i would add that in there in hopes that it doesn't start an unneccessary fued between myself and someone who thinks differently)

RE: Opinions on Defenders and Stalkers

It's like Rhingo said, if you can't go into a PvP zone without complaining about one thing or another, then don't go into it. It's a completely optional zone that is meant to expand on the CoX experience, but not required to further the game. When you go into a PvP zone, you become a target whether you like or not. So, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Your not a big Fantastic Four Fan, huh?
Dr.Doom is the villian you mostl likely shouldn't have mentioned on that topic.

RE: Opinions on Defenders and Stalkers

Lets put it this way, I've spent time in PvP as both an empath and a stalker, target numero uno! I even made a costume on my empath with a big bullseye on it. You are the first taken out for a reason, because you make others very difficult to take out... and I definitely did my dying for sure! No unfair advantages there in my opinion. As for stalkers? Oddly enough the empath was my #1 victim... CM makes me visible, which makes me USELESS. Its all about the foodchain. Everythings weakness is something, its just your overcharge, angry and childish people who would complain that a build or archetype can't come play with them. In fact, I miss the old days when Regen meant god, invulnerables were impossible to kill, etc etc, and I never even had them at the time. It fit more to have imbalance in the superhero world (Batman and superman anyone?) Lifes not always fair and it was more enjoyable when it wasn't in CoH as well. Sometimes it was fun, sometimes challenging, but there were always ways around it that made it that much more exciting. People just get too concerned with winning to enjoy it.

BEST TEST ANSWERS EVER!
"Who was responsible for inventing the cotton gin?"
"I'm unable to divulge that information as it may compromise our agents in the field."

"What was the date of Columbus' journey to the americas?"
"I do not believe in linear time, the past and future are one, existence in the temporal sense is illusionary... this question is therefore meaningless and impossible to answer."

Wow can i borrow your brain mine seems to be broken and too long winded lol.

anywho - exactly! couldn't have said it better myself, and i tried with my 16 page dissertation that i posted earlier but i feel i distracted myself and went off on a different tangent and forgot to say that.

While it is fun to win, when it becomes all about winning and less about just playing the game, it's no longer fun for anyone anymore. (damn i am getting old I'm starting to sound like my dad)
