Whenever I try to install GW, it gets past the first "Connecting to ArenaNet" part, but won't load at the second.
Any solutions?

Firstly welcome to GuildWars@GameAmp. Secondly, do you have a firewall? If so, it could be blocking the port that Guild Wars uses.

Thats what happened to me at first. The firewall blocked it. Now, every time it updates I have to tell the firewall to let it connect.
Try the firewall, thats probably it.

Has Guild Wars worked for you before or is it the first time you've tried installing it?
Try turning off anything that may interfere with your internet in some way (Pop-up blocker, etc.) then try.

He is using windows xp (you can change appearance to resemble win98)
Its likely a firewall issue, i recommend turning off all anti virus/firewalls.
EDIT: Also dont have the amp forums open when you install :p

Yeah I agree. Try to disable it all. This is including the firewall from windows! (you should have 2, one from MaCafee/Norton/etc. and one from Windows) If you want to disable windows firewall go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Security.
Good luck with it! (I just installed it today on my laptop haha)
Welcome to GameAMP!

EDIT:

I'm running XP. And its not my firewall or any of that apparently, I went through and configured everything.
Also, this isn't a very old PC at all. I'm only running 1GB RAM though, so I need to update that.

The memory isn't the problem. I really don't know what it is doing. I suggest going to Guild Wars Support. They have many good answers there. And if you don't see your answer, then you can always create a support ticket. :)

Yes, the problem can be your firewall.Try to put it off when installing and putting back on when playing, that should help good :D.

I <3 ur interface, red is sooooo nice:)
I had this problem too
solutions:
#1: uninstall GW, never play it again
or
#2: reconnect your internet thing (worked for me)
ps: solution #1 was a failed joke.
