I feel stupid for asking this but I would rather ask and get a deffinite answer than screw someone up accidently by making an incorrect assumption. (which i feel i might have done a few times in the past by not paying attention)
in the Rate this post (which is how one gives credit right?) a 10 means it is a good post and the poster will recieve credabilty right?
like i said i just want to ask cause different people and companies always tend to have different ways of doing things. and there is a very interesting topic that was just started and i want to give kudos to the poster but i don't want to screw it up and inadvertantly discredit them.(although i don't think i can cause i am currently a spittoon or whatever) but just incase thought i would ask cause the credabilty guidelines on the bottom of the page are incredibly helpful but at the same time very vague about that.
also there have been a couple of threads where i accidntly clicked on the Rate instead of reply due to me trying to move too fast and not fully paying attention, is this bad and if so is there a way of fixing it? I am also a member of some forums for the TCG's i play and their system and board set up is different, so i often catch myself (unfortunately not all the time) going to click rate instead of reply.
prolly should have asked this the first time i screwed up a year ago but hey whatcha gonna do :)

Yep, 10 means good :) I really like the post credibility system here on GameAmp. On many forums it is just based on how many posts you make, but here we can really mark those posts that stand above the rest. It is a great feeling to see that your post got rated (and therefore appreciated). The post ratings do go into the big pool of creds members get from all sorts of contributions.
The way the rating works here if multiple people rate a post the post get and average of all the values. This is mostly to avoid somebody to get 100 creds if a post is appreciated by many, while you only get 25 creds for a full guide.
The drawback on this is if you accidentally rate a post with zero you might bring the average down, and the poster actually loses a few points. But don't worry about it. The whole idea of the rating system is just to make members appreciated. If the post had not been rated before a rate of zero does nothing, and if it was rated before the poster is already happy.
And now on a personal note. I really think rating posts is a wonderful thing. I am much more proud on the maybe 500 creds I have build up in appreciated posts than the 2000+ creds from screenies and other assorted stuff I added over the time I have been here.
The GameAmp forums are what really makes this place stand above the rest. The guides, info, articles and screenshots are great too, but it is the forum that keeps making me come back. I have the feeling that rating posts is not done as much anymore as used to be.
So Rhingo, thanks for bringing this up. Hopefully not only you but others will keep rating posts and keep this place great.

I will usually giving a rating out to anyone who makes a great point, was really helpful, or started a great topic. I also tend to rate those that post in one that I have started (if they contribute to the posting in some way). I try to remember to rate anything that I feel makes a difference on this site.
I have only given negative ratings one time and that was to someone that was just trying to be unkind and stir people up.
I appreciate when someone gives a positive rating, and yet a worry about the times I have received negative ones. I would hope that if someone had an issue with a posting of mine they would let me know and discuss it with me.
I will give you a rating just for asking a good question that others may have been thinking as well.

Thank you very much Phe and Swiss for helping me to better uderstand the rating system. I hope this helps others as it did myself. I think by bringing this up and you guys anwering is going to make me more aware of this system that GA has put in place, and hopefully i won't make as many mistakes as I have done in the past.
