Fox News: "MMO's could be Breeding Ground for Criminals!"

Several high-profile cases involving people who met playing online games have led experts to caution that such Web sites have a unique environment that could be a breeding ground for criminal minds.

— A 2-year-old girl nicknamed "Baby Grace" by detectives was found dead in October in a locked box in Texas — allegedly the victim of a beating murder at the hands of her stepfather and teenaged mother, who met playing the online fantasy game "World of Warcraft."

— A 31-year-old Australian woman named Tamara Broome was nabbed in June when she traveled to North Carolina to lure a 16-year-old boy she encountered playing the same popular Internet game.

— Twenty-six-year-old Florida resident Daniel Lenz is also under investigation for allegedly coaxing a 15-year-old girl he played "World of Warcraft" with to run away with him.

— In China, a "Legend of Mir III" player is spending the rest of his life behind bars for fatally stabbing another for the "theft" of a virtual sword.

It is all the fault of the Communists. Or the French. Or is that the same?
Maybe Al Gore is even behind this too. He did invent the internet after all.

LMAO mech and phed hahaha

Yeah I sorta thought the same thing, there are extreme cases in everything...why would MMO addicts be any different? Also...why does this have anything to do with WoW...so the babies parents are met on WoW that does not mean that WOW had ANYHTING to do with what happened. I love how they try to pull in obscure details and blame them. Just like Grand Theft Auto caused columbine....yeah right my ars.

Yup, soon it'll be like "MMOs, the root to high devorce rates. A man bought a copy of WoW from a sale. Now the wife accuses his husband for having an affair with his lvl 26 female night elf hunter. All the romance is gone since that beach came between us!, claims the wife."

RE: Fox News:

So with 8 milion people world-wide playing WOW, three tentatively related crimes are something to worry about?

Even Switzerland would be jealous about such a low crime-rate...

Mind you, there's actually more crimes to be found if you look, but this is just more sensation seeking news by folks who are unable to use games as intended, release valves, and somehow think the rest of the world thinks as crooked as they themselves do.

But the first word in the subject already told me that :-)

RE: Fox News:

LMAO...... Since I started playing MMO's, I haven't had the time or desire for illegal activities. I am MORE of an upstanding citizen since I started playing.

Who has time to be a criminal? I have herbs to farm and a few auctions I'm waiting to see if they sell or not. (The jokes about me putting felweed in my pipe and smokin it are endless in game =P)

I guess it's good that I've got a GF at the house. I am a pervy old man. But the whole luring young girls via the internet is even below my level of skeezy. If it hadn't have happened via WoW, they would have done it through MySpace, or CoH or any other various internet options. I think us gamers know that those articles are just a load of crap written by haters. Some game geek's ex-wife.

"WoW ruined my marriage!....... *sob*"

Sorry, but if WoW ruined your marriage, it sucked to start with! It was simply a tool of it's demise, not the cause of the strife that caused the split in the first place.

But not to worry folks. With the fickle media and overly abundant gullable individuals out there, we'll see an article on how WoW improves your motor skills, looks good on a resume and is the cure for altimers in a month or so.

Lol, if you're referring to my post, it was just a joke. I agree with you on that though. :P

Lmao, I can easily imagine you smoking your felweed over there, after I saw your pic on that "Faces behind WoWers" thread. You looked so hammered. :D

RE: Fox News:

Ah, not your's specifically. I've just seen how that gets thrown up a lot. People just love to blame the problems in their life on things other than their own inadeqacies.

I know I have an addictive personality, and that WoW is one of my major addiction problems right now. I let my GF help temper my playing and discuss my gaming schedule with her so that she knows I'm going to make time for her. And I even asker her to help me stick to that schedule, so I don't blow her off on one of her quality time nights. I am an addict after all.

If I didn't really care for her and our relationship, I would simply let my gaming addition take me over and blow her off alltogheter until she left me. Then the enevitable "WoW ruined my relationship" would surface. But that wouldn't really be the case. I would only let my gaming addiction eat me if I didn't care about her in the first place.......

"Man stabs other man to death over a ninja'd virtual sword."

OK, that guy would be stabbing someone in a gas station over a pack of smokes eventually. (Unless it was the sword of 1000 truths, then I'd get all stabby too!) WoW did not create a knife wielding psychopath, a knife wielding psychopath started playing WoW.....
