A few good reasons to do a grey quest.

So I realize not everyone is in to questing and some folks just like to fight monsters until they get the xp needed to ding but here are a few things to consider before deleting those grey quests from your journal. So here are some good reasons to do a quest even if it is grey.

o Some grey quests are prerequests to quest you may really want for example a recent grey quest helped me stumble on a nice cloak as it's reward.

o If it grants a treasure item you can always transmute it.

o It still counts toward your ranking on the leaderboards

o It still gives some xp

o the cash pay out is still good

o you find out why that NPC you have passed for months is standing in the middle of nowhere doing nothing. :P

o it may grant you to or point you to a zone you have missed before.

anyone have any to add...

Not as tangible as some of the points Mikey listed, but grey quests are great for just some easy playtime in game. Toss in a bit of harvesting and it's simple to add another quest to your quest count.

Grey quests/mobs also give you a chance to practice your skills... the best order to hit those attacks!

Hmmm, none of the reasons mentioned so far are reasons I'd go guesting for doing white, yellow or red quests for in the first place.

Here's a few reasons from a non itemization / acheivement driven player:

- Because you think/now/hope the Quest will be fun.

- you picked up the quest when it was Yellow and made a promise to fullfil it (yes, to an npc)

- It will take you to a place you haven't been yet.

- You're helping out a friend.

- It's part of a story-line you're following or are interested in.

- It beats murdering 100's of critters for no better reason than that they give you better XP or "Phat Lewt".

Quests give purpose to the mindless, homicidal, greedy slaughter that MMOG's would otherwise be :-)

Yep, you are all three absolutely right. Although I most live by the arguments that lani posted, they are not the kind of arguments that work well on a player that thinks grey quests are useless.

That's a great point Dru! And now that EQ2 has an appearance tab it makes a ton of sense. One tab for armor so you're always equipped for adventuring and one tab for dressup! :-)

All great points from Lani that not only point to the question of gray quests but also help define a playstyle that is not based on hitting the level cap in the shortest amount of time possible. Role Players and non power level based playstyles are in the minority most of the time so it is always nice to find places with like minded or at least tolerant players. :)

RE: A few good reasons to do a grey quest.

A lot of grey quests that I do, I'm doing it for the RP aspect. There are a lot of good storylines in the games quests, that sometimes it's fun just to do it and learn something from it.

And of course, all the other things that were mentioned in this thread ;)
