iv been playing gw for 1 year now and my ping, fps is gown down. I contacted anet and so forth did everything. Then when CoD4 took my eye i knew i had to upgrade my computer. Im planning on getting 1 gig of memory(single) *DDR* and a new video card.
Iv looked at the requirements for cod4 and i need someone to help me since im a noob at video cards.
1. Does the video cards memory(ddr,ddr2,ddr3) have to match my rams memory?
2. Does it matter how much of Bit there is... or does it have to be the same as my comp?(128,4,32 bit etc)
3. I have a flat screen monitor do i need a special video card to match it? how can i tell which one i need?
If someone here plays cod4 here and has a video card please tell me what uyou use. My budget is around $115. Iv already got a few discounted cards that i found compared to its original price.

Which is going down? Your ping or your FPS? If its ping, thats a good thing as it measures the time it takes for ur computer and the server to "talk" to each other, and so measures the time delay between things happening and you seeing them/doing them.
If its FPS, or frames per second, thats not a good thing and i have no idea how to help on that issue.

what interface does your current video card use? AGP? PCIE?
what is the wattage on your Power supply?
also it does not matter what type of ram the video card uses, vs. what your system uses.
if you have PCI-E look at this card, its not the best but not to bad. Click

A Nvidia 6 series may be an issue, I would upgrade to at LEAST a 7300 LE if not at 7900 GT since you cannot afford the 8 series. They are good cards, if you have a 6 series or below it may be your video card causing lag. Make sure you visit the nvidea website to make sure your drivers are all up to date they just released a new one for the 7000 series cards a few weeks ago.
Also if you are running less than 1.5 gigs of ram it may be the problem. I would go with 2 gigs - which will never be used up by any current game unless your running a bunch of crap in the background as well.

Hi Dru,
the click i made in the above post is for a 8600gt card for under $130, granted its a little more than he wants to spend but, a few dollars more gives him a card that supports dx10
forgot to mention that it has a $30 MIB so the card comes out costing under $100

if you are talking about the interface your video card uses.
"the blue one" is called VGA and "the white one" is DVI
and as to what PSU and what graphics slot you have, if you dont have the documentation that came with the computer. you will have to open it up and look. there should be a label on the PSU that tells you wattage.

1. No it doesn't. I just bought total new hardware and my Motherboard has DDR2 RAM, the 8800GTS has DDR3.
2. I'm not sure but I don't think it matters so much. You might wanna ask that in the shop (in rl that is).
3. No not really, as long as you have the right output. There should be a blue and a white output on your graphic card. The blue one looks like this '::::' and the white one like this :::::- The white one is for LCD screens so I advice to put it on there. My LCD screen has a blue output, so I used a special connection between the video card and tha cable from my screen.
Advise about wich videocard to take.. If you want to be prepared for the future, buy the 8800GT. It has good performance and only costs like €150,00. I wouldn't go below GeForce 7800 cus if you try to save money on this (basic system) you'll be buying a new gaphic card every year.
I have COD4, but didn't play it yet (dunno why). It should run fine since Crysis plays on Ultra High =D
Hope this helps a bit and good luck. The best way of figuring things out is this:
[list]Download a benchmark.
Write down/print ALL the specs from basic PC (motherboard, videocard, processor and RAM).
Take it to the shop and ask what they advise (don't sound too noob though or they'll be selling you expensive stuff that you might not even need).

A couple of suggestions. You have a socket 775 board, you can get a cheap <$100 Core2Duo processor and it'll increase your speed a lot.
RAM: get 2GB, they are so cheap right now. But if your going to stay with only 1GB, get 2 512MB sticks so your board can dual channel them. It'll be better performance wise than one 1GB stick or RAM.
Look at this site for graphics cards in your price range: Here

I didn't say buy the 8800GTS, but the 8800GT. It's only €150,00. And I'm not made out of money either, I just work one day a week and save my money. Don't drink/smoke it up if you know what I mean.

Well i plan to play cod4 on it so getting 2X512 sticks is better then a 512 and a 1gig stick? I have Xp and dont plan to upgrade to vista so could i buy a card with DX10 on it? because Xp max support is DX9(currently have).
Thanks for the site for cheap cards.

Whatever you do, get two sticks of RAM that are the same. Then you can dual channel them. Just get 2 1GB sticks for <$100.
A DX10 card would do you no good in XP, so thats saving you money right there. XP is better for gamers BTW. I read that the latest release of DX9 is like the DX10 version for XP.

If you could find me the exact linq to the 2 1 gig sticks for less then $100 , Id bungy jump myself out of my window cuz I coundlt find one on newegg. Im not trying to go max out on cards, just something that goes onto the Recommended part of gamestops idea for COD4.
Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Processor: 2.4 GHz dual core or better
RAM: 1G for XP; 2G for Vista
Video Card: 3.0 Shader Support recommended. Nvidia Geforce 7800 or better or ATI Radeon X1800 or better
i currently have a 3.2 processor even though its celeron D.
You say about the 8800GT well since american dollars in currency is going down... well look for yourself....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....chInDesc=8800GT
sigh.
Since you said you 7600 runs max at COD4 im probably gonna stick somewhere around there since they are cheap... maybe go little bit up sincei found some good buys.

Ok, I stand corrected, its not less than $100. But just over: 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400
Do you know if you have DDR or DDR2?

Might also want to look at Tigerdirect.com
Sometimes they have some crazy good sales, especially on RAM.

I honestly wouldn't recommend that card to anyone, the GeForce 7 series will run better than the 8500GT but it will no doubt be better than what you have now.
You'll probably have to upgrade again not too long into the future.

on my desktop i was initially running a dual-core, 2gb of ram and a single 7900gtx, never have had any issues with GW in the computer end of it, now if my IS provider could have a steady stream and not wag all the time that'd be perfect!
and my laptop's running a 7300 series and it doesn very well too. they're cheap cards and do make a big difference over the 6000 series ones or the old 9800agp that i had in my previous desktop.
but yea, i agree with others that 2gb of ram is a big help as my laptop is also a dual core, slightly slower processor, but only 1gb of ram. quite the difference when they play beside one another.

A 7900 card with 2gigs of ram should last you into gaming for a while. You may want to consider upgrading to DX10 sometime in the next year for the newest games coming out (though many still are coming out with DX9 support as well). The 7900 should last you 2 or 3 years easily if you put in at least 1gig of ram though I suggest 2 gigs. If you have 4 slots then get 4 512mb of ram, if you have 2 slots then get 2 1gig ram sticks. Either way DO NOT put in 2 512s and 1 - 1gig that will mess up your computer. Ram ALWAYS goes in 2's (ie 2 sticks, 4 sticks, 6 sticks)
Also - <3 the newegg!
To find our about your ram you can scan your computer at this site, i use it and so do my friends so I know its safe.
