after hearing so many people complain about either WoW or GW, aiming proverbial "low blows" at the enemy game, i did some thinking. while there isnt any real conflict between the two sets of players- indeed, many (including myself) play both games- there is a war going on. and that war is called shameless advertising.
besides the single recent (and amazing) ad for game stop on cable, an add which doesnt even mention GW, anet has refrained from rediculous amounts of advertising. while this is no doubt because the game is f2p, that doesnt mean there arent options for other forms of advertising, like endorsements (thing "prince rurik action figure").
on the other hand, WoW, with the rediculous sums of monthly cash it draws in, is free to post incredible amounts of shameless advertising anywhere blizzard/activision/whatever feels like it. some adds are good, it gives the game publicity. but THIS is where i draw the line:

thats just unbelievably stupid, and i would gladly kick anyone in the balls who purchases that computer. recently someone i was fairly good friends with purchased a $2000 laptop for over $4000, because it was yellow and had a lambourghini logo on it. it just blows my mind how stupid people are, and how pathetic companies are to put out these products.
so ****EDITED**** you, WoW. i vow from now on to play you only illegally, on private servers, so my dollar wont have any connection with your filthy product placement.

As long as there are stupid people to pay extra 2000 grand for a different color and a Lambo sign on the computer the companies will make such products to generate more income. Stupid people can be ripped off, so why not do it? Maybe once they realize they have been ripped off they will stop being stupid. Who knows.

Stop complaining about these 2 games. I play both and I like them both. If a gamer loves 1 of these games let them play it. Don't make such a big deal out of it. I'm getting tired of reading topics like this. And about the laptop if some1 wants to design a laptop to play wow, sure . but don't forget that GW did the same.

I have never played World of WarCraft but I really don't attend to because of the monthly payments. If it was like guild wars I may be playing it. I play many games besides guild wars like bf2 or AA or some other mmo.
To each their own I guess.

I don't understand our problem.
I mean if someone has a passion for cars then let him buy a computer with a car logo.
Some people play GW instead of going out or play sports.
Isn't that stupid as well ?
oh and btw GW > Wow (coz GW is all about skills and note time/xp)

i said the same thing if you read. i play both games, and love them. i dont love all the advertising.
and i was unaware of that GW computer, but my point remains. WoW spends much more money on ads than GW, and im sick of seeing them everywhere

Microsofts ad budget in close to a billion if not more but I am not complaining what so ever. I just ignore the ads and sometimes I find them funny. Some people tend to buy things that has their fav game, car or logo on it. I have seen people drop 10k on a laptop that had tux the linux penguin on it. Why do people buy super fast, sleek and stylish cars for 200k and only put them in the garage. It's their money their choice. Yeah.. 4k for a laptop is a bit much even with the specs.

just like to point out that GW ALSO has a computer coming out! And they do figures in magazines....so that argument is null and void.
Also, the wow laptop does not cost anymore than a regular 1720m laptop...so that argument is null and void.
Lastly, Rant and Rave does NOT mean its a place where you can swear your post will be edited.

PS - if you like both games then you would pay for them and not play on ILLEGAL PRIVATE servers! You can get banned for playing on private servers from blizzard and if you talk about them here.

You're a bith blinded by WoW only their.
World of Warcraft is just a small part of the Warcraft universe. (which is stored in my mind forever!!).
Although I'm not from the Warfcraft generation, I did however buy the Warcraft 3 game and untill now, I still regard that as a Strategy where the storyline is not to bad (which is VERY good for a RTS in the first place).
What I'm trying to say is: Maybe you 'ought to consider the fact that their has been Warcraft, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3 and The Frozen Throne expansion pack.
And they deserve a little producting since it pretty much has become a Cult thing. (and has excellent character development skill)

i do believe Ferrari has a limited edition ACER laptop out as well that's outrageously overpriced, but hey, a Lambo and Ferrari are outrageously priced. case and point.
most of the car magazine comments on super-lux and exotics is summed up as "those with money to burn", "if you need to ask, you can't afford it", "trite but true, this is sex on wheels"... comments such as.
with a WOW laptop being priced like that, yea, it's over-priced, but some people's lives hinge on that game and money for a special edition product that they're obsessed with isn't a factor. are they stupid? not necessarily, they're just horribly obsessed with something.
i call those little $1.99 WoW 14 day trials they sell on the countertops of EB Games, "crack cubes" or "hash squares" either way, those little 1.99 trials are designed to make you obsessed and get you hooked on the game, which leads to buying $4000 laptops and a poor posture, no girlfriend and a permanent arm-pit smell that 2 cans of AXE won't get rid of...
anywho, they're just bad with money, have it to burn, or are obsessed to the point of being institutionalized.

I hate Wow because it's a bad game not because it advertises to much...(I played it hated it and now it's a bad game so before you go on an "zomg n00b" rampage think about that)
Seriously though hating a game because of product placement is like not going out wit ha beautiful girl because she likes money(I don't mean gold digger I mean actually enjoys having money...0

I'd like a WoW private server! But yeah it's illegal and shady to get and well...lets try not to converse about them on these fourms, back on topic yeah WoW has too many addicted players. Out of the 8 Mil that play im willing to bet a sorry 6 Million are addicted to the point their skin is mended to the chair from sitting in front of it for more then one month. Comon theres gotta be some unemployed rich people that keep forking in cash and never log off wow? Comon think bout it.

The fact that there is a GW iPod kinda scares me...lol. That is cool though.
And I take no offense to anyone saying they hate wow as long as they have played the game. There are a lot of problems with it, and if those problems are important to you then don't play. I stopped playing for a long time as well, some burn out of the game, some because I dont like decisions Blizzard has made.
And good point on the warcraft 1-3 thing, Frozen Throne still has a HUGE following. A lot of people, especially on RP servers play because they know the lore and teh history of the game not because its the "cool" thing to do.
I do have to say however the latest wow commercials with Van Damme, Shatner and Mr. T are hilarious! If you havent seen them you can check em out on Youtube or our wow site.
Nice thread people, most things were great points!
