mind/psi Dom Build - how\\\'s it look? 

Hi All

This is the first Dominator (and first toon) that I've made. I wanted to get some feedback on this build.

It's mainly for PvE at the moment - I'm at lvl 31 now.

Hello ooblivion, welcome to GameAmp!

I have no idea about IO sets so I will not say anything about that. But for the rest I think your build looks not bad at all. Any comments I am giving to it are just my view of things. And you are utterly free to ignore me. But ...

Personally I think one travel power is enough. I am a big fan of SuperSpeed since the vertical problems are solved by the Mayhem Temp powers and Good-vs-Evil jetpack. So I would skip CJ and SJ. Since you are already 31 there is no need to take SS earlier, but otherwise I advice that too.

I know a lot of people love the leadership pool, but I would skip that too. I always run into endurance problems with them, and respec them out later on. In stead get those two slots for hasten earlier and concentrate on your primary and secondary powers.

But most of all, just do what you feel like. There is no such thing as a bad build. Or was it there is no such thing as a dumb question? Now I am confused...

I completely agree with Phedre. Except it's SuperJump you should take. True, SuperSpeed is faster on the long stretch, like when crossing sees or running down Skyway's central road. Outside of that, you're constantly bumping into things and missing the ramps you need to take up, or down. SuperJump however is as all round Travel power as you could wish and provides you with all you need. As an extra bonus, those little "oooooh shiiiiit!!!' moments when you jump into something bad (half a second before jumping out again).

When I was first building my toon, I chose SS for the travel power and it worked great. And, as you said, you could get the vertical travel with the jetpack and such. Hasten is great for getting the recharge time down on the powers (especially domination).

But then I got higher levels and wanted to get some more benefits from another power pool.

The fitness pool is a no-brainer. Health/Stamina - what's not to like? I took hurdle to get my jump distance up.


What next?

I don't really like the other powers in my primary and secondary sets. The sleep powers are nice for low-level solo, but not much else (when you have terrify at higher level - with damage). And I never liked Telekenesis.

In my secondary, I don't need more than one melee power. And Mind Probe gives the best damage so I chose that instead of Telekenetic Thrust (and it's knockback). Mental Blast stinks, so I didn't use that. Subdue - only works on one target - and I never liked immobilize powers. Although Psionic Lance does sound interesting, I didn't think I would need it. It may be good to have if I can't find something better.

So I wanted to get another power pool. Here were my thoughts on the other pools:

- Concealment: The stealth power would be nice, and you can put a "Luck of the Gambler" into it (if you have the cash). But you get psudo-stealth with Super Speed. The other concealment are not that exciting to my dom. Although you can put another LotG into the invisibility power. But this is mainly taking powers only for the use of LotG.

- Fighting: You don't get that much benefit from this pool with a dom. The tough and weave can give you some help, but you need to take either boxing or kick (which give lame damage for a dom) in order to get tough and weave. Does not seem worth it.

- Flight: Hover is nice for some extra damage resistance and knockdown help. And you can slot LotG in this too. Fly would be nice, although you can fly (not fast) with the mahem gadgets.

- Leadership: I orignanally thought this would be good to get some extra recharge reduction with IOs. But looking into it further, it seems like this pool really stinks for doms (as you mentioned). So this one is probably not worth it.

- Leaping: Combat Jumping gives some good defense. Super Jump is just plain cool. And Acrobatics gives you very nice hold and knockback protection.

- Medicine: Heck, I'm a Dominator - I don't like to heal - I like to inflict damage!

- Presence: Yeah, a squishy dom wants more aggro - right.

- Teleport: Pretty cool way to travel - and get others to where you are. But other than the convienance factor, it's not that appealing to me.



So, with all of those ideas - I chose Leaping. Better defence (which a dom really needs) and the Super Jump is a nice bonus. CJ you can put LotG in too.


Now the problem is what other powers/pool powers to choose? With fitness, Speed and Leaping chosen, I have two more power slots to fill.

-Psyonic Lance - a good candidate. Can always use some long range damage. Maybe could use it to pull too.

- Power Sink - how much benefit is this when I already have Drain Psyche? Anyone have any first hand experience with this?

- Hover - Put in LotG and get some extra defense?

- Recall friend - nice for helping teams, but possibly not worth it?

- Teleport Foe - nice in PvP - but probably not when you're a dom.

- Stealth - You get a little bit of defense, and can slot LotG, but I already have psudo-stealth with SS.

- Invisibilty - if Stealth is taken, another LotG (but who has that much money?)



So how about: Psyonic Lance and Hover (with LotG). The decision for Hover is lame, I think...but I need help in choosing something else that's better.
