| help me i cannot open gw! |

ok, i click on the little icon on my quick launch, becuase otherwise i waste time with the two clicks. GW Opening thing comes up. It stays on the little "Connecting to ArenaNet" thingy forever. it never moves on. i tried re-installing it off teh site, and went and opened it from its installed location! why won't it open? any solutions/suggestions are very nice.
p.s. sorry about spelling errors, dont feel like fixing them

Try using the regular shortcut? Also make sure you don't have any options in there like -image.

Firewall might be stoping it. Try turning it off, and running GW.

Although Kanna has the right idea, being a systems engineer i have to say turning off the firewall is a bad idea. :-p HOWEVER!
You can create exceptions for your Windows Firewall to allow Guild Wars to connect.
Do this.
Go to Start>Control Panel
Double Click on Windows Firewall
Click on the Exceptions tab.
Click the Add Program button
Surf the list for gw.exe...if you don't see it, you can always browse to the location, which is c:\program files\guild wars\gw.exe
Click OK. Then OK again.
Then try it out!

I have the same problem. since yesterday I haven't been able to connect too.
already tried the firewall thing, but that didn't work :S
couldn't find anything helpful @ the official GW site either..
Hope any1 can come up with a solution:S

I think you use NOD32 on your PC.

In order to do so please follow the following instructions:
Please go to SETUP, by double clicking the NOD32 symbol in your System Tray and selecting the menu option accordingly
1. select Antivirus and Spyware
2. select Advanced Antivirus and Spyware protection setup
3. select Web access protection and go to HTTP
4. in the HTTP Filter dialogue box you can remove port 80 which is selected by default.
Further down in the options in the Field "Exclusions" you can also add the Guild Wars Files from the protection in case this causes any further problems with your game client.
If the above information did not resolve this issue, please contact our Technical Support Team by using the Ask a Question tab.

i have zone alarm, and i have my windows firewall shut off. so they dont compete. i tried the dont filter over 1394 options.
i recently updated flashplayer, but according the guru ppl that shouldnt do anything.

all right, i tried to turn off my firewall, but that did not work. i have to assume that maitenence has nothing to with it. could my computer just be effed up?

Right click on the gw.dat file and choose properties. Make sure the Read Only box is not checked.

The only way I can see that happening is either you internet doesn't work, or your firewall is blocking it! Or of course the game doesn't like you.
Try seeing if your firewall has it blocked thats the only thing I could can think of :x

I've had the same problem twice before. what I did was re-install GW. which means alots of file download once its re-imstalled. that seemed to fix it.
Im not very good with PC's but would re starting the router help? not sure if that would have any effect. :S
PS: as my bro has just told me, if you are running another programme (eg: pear guardian) at the same time as GW then it is possable that that is blocking A-net and stopping it from working. so try closing any programme like pear guardian that my effect it.

I GOT IT WORKING!!!!!
i think we should pin this maybe as like a helpful thing for anyone whom this happens these are the steps i took:
uninstalled, and erased from registry and firewall memory. then reinstalled and added to firewall memory.

jeez you took the long way, usually when it doesnt connect I just restart the comp, and it works perfectly... so, IF this does get pinned, try that.
