Karazhan, gear, team, strategy

It's been months since I transferred to a PvE server and finally found a home with a good guild. We're mostly casual players who are in RL friends, married couples, GF/BF kinda folks. We have parents and their kids in the guild.

Now we're trying to progress and do raids and such. We pretty much have a jolly good time in LBRS and UBRS. But I think we should start going to Kara.

About 90% of the 70's (we have about 18) have completed or about done with the Kara attunement questchain. But we've been having discussions lately about whether we can handle it or not.

Half have said we're not geared for it. The other half say it's fine cause that where we can get some better gear. Who's right?

How can one get "better" gear without Kara. Most people won't even consider you for any heroics unless you have "kara" gear. I can warn you that none of us are into any kind of PvP whatsoever.

Also, what suggestions do you have for the makeup of a Kara team and general tactics?

Well you should be doing heroics BEFORE Karah to begin with. You can get the keys at honored now and they are 5 man, you should have a tank, off-tank, healer, DPS/CC and off healer/dps. My favorite group make up is Prot warrior, Pally, Mage, Rogue and Priest.

As for the best gear, outside of arenas it is black temple. To get to black temple I would suggest going to heroics, Khara, The Eye, Grauls then Black Temple. Thats the current order for gear. But depending upon your group's ability you may be able to skip some of those gear wise.

Gotcha. I have the keys to all heroics. Since the latest patch, I took advantage and bought the keys.

My biggest gripe at the moment is the enchantments for rings. Why is it that I can only enchant *my* rings. Poopie! I would have liked to enchant my guildmates' rings, too. :-((

Oh well, grind at the heroics it is.

You can gear up for karazhan just fine by running heroics and getting some of the better crafted gear.

As for ring enchants, every profession has bind on pickup items of some sort that are only available to the person crafting them. It's an extra incentive to pick up a crafting profession and not just two gathering ones.

Tailors have some kick butt level 70 epics that we can only craft for ourselves!!

And yeah I want ring enchants to....BOO HOO! I am alchy tailor....hrm...

Karazhan is seen to be the 'free epixx' dungeon in the Burning Crusade, so of course full blues would be a good target to be going for before entering it, but isn't necessary.

It was created so small guilds could still get a chance at getting good gear, then perhaps expanding to move onto greater dungeons i.e: Gruuls Lair, The Eye, or Serpentshrine Cavern.

if you guys are looking for good gear, a good way to go is to get your D3 set, its not the best set out there, but it will get you started. And when you first start out at kara, wether you have the gear or not, its going to take time to progress through the bosses, and on the way people will get better and better gear. Doing heroics and using the badges for gear is also another way to get some gear, Mech used to be the ideal heroic to get badges from but blizzard had to go and nerf it. Slave Pens is a pretty simple 3 badge run and the daily heroic will give you 2 extra badges and around 20g.
