Two Years @ Gameamp: My Story

Two years in the Gameamp Guides. My story.

Well, it was January 2, 2006 when I was invited into the Gameamp Guides, and then later that day became a member of the gameamp.guildwars website. Lani was the guild leader and Silly Ranger gave me the invite. I’ll never forget it.

Prior to the invite I was in the Zealots of Shiverpeak (ZoS) running as a PvP player. Yes, believe it or not I used to PvP, managed to get to R3 in just a little over 12 hours of game play. That aside, the guild was quite fun, there were a lot of good members in ZoS and I’m sure there continues to be.

Before joining up with ZoS in 2005 I was in a specialized guild called the “Soldiers of Sorrow” (disbanded now). Our specialty was farming runs through the then new Sorrow’s Furnace. I met a person in our guild Hnix Turnwar who was usually my side kick healer monk while I tended to bonding. Our guild leader Capheus the Paladin was the tell-tale tank, Shadow Kenshin was another great name that tanked while Cap would monk and I’d SS, MM, or even prior to that, the famed Echo Nuke. There were others, but none so as reliable as the previously mentioned.

Our guild was amazing. It was one of those make 100K+ a day personally guild, fantastic! I soon found myself obsessed with armor sets and changing dyes from a day to day basis. Well, when you have more, you spend more, I’m sure many of the people reading this, particularly Kanna will know what I’m talking about when it comes to armor obsession.

Though I was reeling in the items and gold that some can’t fathom, the guild was not to last. After some real life issues with the guild’s top 3 ranks, myself included, it fell apart. Hnix was drawn to the gameamp guides, and I found myself in ZoS after a member of their’s had partied with our farming group and had secretly invited me into their guild.

Hnix soon grew to really enjoy the gameamp guild and I myself was enjoying the professionalism that the ZoS guild was having at the time. However, old friends are hard to let go of and when Hnix had told me about the gameamp guides and shown me the site (the site was much superior to ZoS’ site) I was hooked on the friendly, non-threatening, atmosphere.

I did things backwards, so I feel kind of privileged /flex followed by /roar. I was first invited into the guild, and then Lani had told me about joining the site and forums. I was going to join the forums regardless, but not having to apply to an “elite” guild made my head swell just a bit and that was a good feeling. LOL! It was the best day I’ve had in GuildWars. For some 8 hours-ish, I just chatted with people, getting to know them, countries they were from, hobbies, the works. So much fun and so much relief from hearing “spike on 3, 1..2..3..” over vent or TS in PvP.

Gameamp’s members at the time I joined were amazing, and still continue to be so. Missions were great and the addition of factions and alliances were really fun. I really liked Tribina’s Mutant’s guild and the core of gameamp was terrific. I became a site admin after some time and coaxing by Evil Geek, who had taken over the SM job from Lani. Being a site admin really added some boost and kick to my Guildwars experience and that at gameamp as well. The staff has undergone many changes and I think I’m the geezer of the bunch by a couple of months. Either way, the staff has been great over the years and so have the members.

The guild’s seen ups and downs as in any guild, but the heart of the Gameamp Guides to me remains the same. A place where I can play my style, joke around, have fun, farm a bit, and never need to worry about getting yelled at for aggroing too many mobs or forgetting to heal someone while I sip some coffee trying to stay awake. :D it’s been a great experience and I look forward to the 2008 year in the Gameamp Guides and on guildwars.gameamp as a forum admin. When GW2 comes out, I’ll be here too! This has been the best guild for me for so many reasons, I’m honestly proud to be in the gameamp guides and a site admin on the fansite.

Take care all, hopefully this wasn’t too boring.

And a special shout out to the following people:

Silly Ranger, for getting it started and inviting me.
Lani Yi, for leading and being a good game friend. (and giving me your kuanavang) :D
Evil Geek, for staffing me and putting up with my opinionated nature.
The Jeni, mainly for putting up with me and my not-being-afraid of the prod attitude. :P
Rogue, for the good battle to the Top5 cred holders and being a good friend.
Kanna, for being a good friend and guild leader
TarisDale, for being a good art critic in the fan art section.
Tribina, for being a fun, supportive player.
Tor Den Mektige, for the awesome sig and avatar, I miss playing with you a lot.
Van Halen, missing playing with you
Tenbeast, “ten-best” you’re awesome, again, wish we could play more.
Maqulvent, same, miss playing with ya, good player.
Julia Heartily, for all the running in Ch1.
Jamnog, for being a darned good necro and fun player
Lord Gkar, love your Mesmer and your abilities. Also a nice person to talk to.
StanZhao1, good guild member and a lot of fun.
Travis, for taking the slack off of me as UC staffer.
Dragonusix, for being a fun, supportive player.
Genesis Dragon, fun chats on so many late nights.

And last but not least, Hnix, for telling me about the site and the guild, he’s the reason I’m here and I’m glad he told me. Ya’ll have been great, I know I said this, but have a great new year and hopefully I’ll see you in game.

An excellent post, I enjoy reading about people's past GW experiences, especially long-living admins. Now I just need to get the other admins to post :P

Very nice story, thank you for posting that.

it didnt come off as egotistical or aggrogant in the slightest.

you're lucky you got to experience all aspects of the game before joining AMP.

While I'd love to be R3 and rich w/ 10 different armors, i am very happy and content to be in such a great guild and a member of such a great community.

KUDOS TO 08!

see you in the GH!

aww, forgot to mention you, didn't really want to because it's about the history of AMP and me, didn't want you to feel old.

that and you need to have played guildwars and be in the guild/alliance for a mention at one point in time, hehe

there's only one thing you need to do Dru, get GW and join us! ;)

I'm not gonna lie, you were a huge part of why I stayed in AMP for so long.

My two years are a bit more complicated. I quit a couple of times and survived AMP in most of it's forms from the beginning. Now I still have at least some influence in the guild 'cause I can always walk in on Sonic and type something in guild chat to you all. I do miss you guys.

Nice story! :)
And it was always fun when we (Mutants) did missions together with you guys.
It's a pity the alliance with you broke up.
Good old days! :)

wow, thanks rogue, means a lot.

and yea, i remember the good old days Aloha like they were yesterday. :D

we all bump into one another in the game at some point, some more frequently than others. some people rag at the GW community, but i think it's what you make of it yourself. if you're outspoken and wanting to make friends then you'll do just that and have a great community game experiance.

anywho, rambling. =)
