Anet's Wintersday Server Failure.

Do i need to say more?

After the hat, when the presents drop, HIT THE DECK and wait for 50k+ sized Ping.

Congrats!

You've enjoyed not being able to pick up presents 9 out of every 12 seconds and most of your assigned presents became unsigned to prevent "afking" and were stolen!

Wh00t.

While I agree the lag has been annoying to high hell, they don't have to, and are under no obligation, to even do these events. So to say they owe us something is like saying if you are to lazy to get a job the government owes you welfare. Sorry, but I don't think they "owe" us anything.

However, given that Anet, in most cases, strives to make their customers happy, I believe they will find a way to correct this situation and make it worth the hassle.

i think there should be more places that are decorated and have grenth and dwayna visit cuz i hate when everyone is in one town and have massive lag

I agree, they do owe something because they do not learn that events will cause lag, and instead of having the presents drop in our inventory, they spawn next to us. I don't care if it's to prevent AFKing because people lag out and miss presents entirely and the fireworks do not help!

To promise a holiday event only to have undesirable effects befall half the community that's happened in previous events of the same magnitude is asking for trouble.

Anet is a huge company, should have known this would happen. so Anet should have handled before the event.

But the present stealing because of the lag was not very likable. Some people had more lag then others. For once i had gotten so much lag i didnt get more then 3 of my presents that dropped... most of them i watched lose the Assignment tag and people slowly lag across the map and steal them.

That i what i thought isn't fair.

It was a massive lagfest in both LA int 1 and 2... I had pings over 48,000 at times... Even Gaile Gray was making comments about the lag.

I agree that the lag is big this event. However, the lag has never been THIS big, and although it put the servers under a lot of pressure, I never had any lag during any of the previous events. So far all we know they thought the servers would hold out this time aswell.

its not just the first few districts, i was in district 111 of LA and was still hitting 50k and a few points 60k ping

with the lag and less than par hats i do declare this one of the worst wintersday events

still get mah nog tho, that makes up for it

It snot certian Districts.. is both LA and Kamandan.. network wide... Its mainly the presents being dropped, i think..... Also people jumping districts trying to get more presents...

the lag seems to affect all districts when the presents are dropped is the worst point. i agree that aNet don't really have to host these events but if they host them do them so we can enjoy them rather than suffer off the scale lag

Its not just LA and Kamadan but server wide. I was in the middle of the Heart of the Shiverpeaks quest when the presents were dropped. I almost had the worm killed when the lag started and boom I couldn't do anything, so I logged off till it was over and went back and done the quest again.

Have to say this is the worst lag I've seen, I was hitting 80k ping at one point during the last event. (After that I lagged spiked into an Err7, logged back on, didn't have any presents or the hat... after having seen 9 presents in my inventory prior... Same deal with my CC shards, it was counting them, changing the numbers, and counting me in votes - then my account was reset) xD
They're trying, just not hard enough.

They did do something to avoid the lag they added a huge number of districts. you can get as many presents as you want all you have to do is go to the rift warden guy and farm his quests for cc shards then swap them for presents. I think anet put on a show for us at holiday time because they are making the game just that little bit better it wasnt a given when the game was released that there would be aftersales stuff like this. I'm sorry you missed out on a few presents but its not something to get yourself worked up about think of all the nice things that are happening in gw over the last 3 years and those presents dont seem so important.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. But when somoene or something, in this case Anet, does something nice for me and it doesn't turn out right, then I shouldn't complain.

In this case, this event. I didn't pay for it. It wasn't part of my packaged game when I bought it. I wasn't promised it if I did this or spent that. Anet came up with the idea to do something nice and fun for us. It hasn't worked out according to plan. Oh well, life goes on. They don't owe me anything.

Edit...funny and true story. Last year while in Jamaica this guy meets us at the end of the drive to our resort. He asks if we are going shopping. We said we were and he asks us to come check out his store. OK, a little wary but it is daylight and we are in a resort area so we go. Well he was black and all the stores we went to (4 I think) were all Asian owned. Wasn't quite sure which one was "his" store at that point. So we leave the last one and are heading for the Taj Mahal shopping place in Ocho Rios. He is still following us. Finally I hand him a $5 tip and tell him thanks. Basically for nothing, but I didn't say that. He hands the 5 back and asks for a 10. I told him no. He says aww come on man 5 aint no good I know you got a 10. So my finace grabs the 5 from him and says "The 5 ain't no good? Well then it sucks to be you cause it's good enough for me. Then she pockets the 5 and turns into the next store. Left that guy there looking stupid. LOL!!!!

i did ok i got all my presents and then some from the event and i had lag i was mostly clicking on my prestns to get them snd when u die and drop a presnt i ut got that one back. Every one had lag so every one had the same opperetunity to steal them it wasn't like there was no one with lag in the area.

lol don't have any experience about this year's wintersday, but imo they shoulnd't organize such events if they can't cope with the lag and such. It's no use putting up such events when the servers crash every 5 min, people get h0000000ge lag spikes etc.

Instead, they should've left it to be like any other day. Then they would've spared people from the lag and the players could've gotten something done. On the other hand, they could've just used their brains and made sure their servers could handle it.

Its not really the server.... Its their present system. If the Present went into the inventory instead of droping to be picked up.. there will be no lag at all. Its when the Presents drop, that alot of the lag happens, and that is because alot of time.. you can have a full dis.. then have them all getting presents dropped... that is around 300+ items in one closed in area....

Lag is gonna happen like that, I don't care what server the games are on.

well, if the lag is caused by the dropping presents, why can't they just limit the number the number of people that can be in a district at any one time?

ot at least how about if you get disconnected, they go into your inventory so you can get them when you log back on like when you finish a mission and haven't grabbed all the trash on the ground?

I made sure to turn off the 4x anti-aliasing and set my graphics to faster/lower on F11, and it seemed to help my pc having to render all those drops, mini pets, and little itty bitty candles flickering on player's heads dancing and running around.

Drop 1 big present in the middle of the town, every player gets one click on it.

Really, if it's the presents dropping that causes lag, they didn't really think it through.

If it's the amount of players on at that time, possibly they're pulling servers off to work on GW2?

Well I don't know about that many in one area as being the problem, as I said I was affected during the dropping of presents when I wasn't in LA or Kamadan. The lag spike hit me when I was doing Heart of the Shiverpeaks quest. I know it was during the present drop cause a couple guild members were on and yelled they got their hats and then boom my char was jumping around as the lag began.

I agree they need a better system for gift dropping.

remember last year when they had all the presents dropping up on the stage(s) in kamadan? they had to have a gm login and get them cleared too.
