Guitar Hero 3

Well I realize this is a GW forum but it is the only forum I belong to and after looking at some of the guitar hero forums I understand why. After sifting through numerous "your such a noob" and "learn to play faster" comments to questions, I hoped maybe the friendly community here could help me out.

Question:
What is "Tapping?"
I see all these videos with guys playing GH3 and just hitting the buttons without strumming. How do you do this I can't seem to get it to work and have been unable to find any info. Just to clarify I am not talking about hammer-ons and Pull-offs. This is my first guitar hero game and after beating it in medium with all 5 stars hard mode is completly beyond my grasp for the time being.

Thanks in advance to anyone who post somem helpful comments

RE: Guitar Hero 3

I think you mean hammer-ons and pull-offs.

In Guitar Hero III, notes that look like a glowing one are Hammer-ons/Pull-offs. These can be played by hitting a note before the Hammer-ons/Pull-offs begin

example:

You have 5 fret buttons, Green(g), Red®, Yellow(Y), Blue(b) and Orange(o). Glowing notes have (-g) behind it.

Lets say you have:

g, y, o, b
You hit the blue note. Now come the Hammer-ons/Pull-offs

g, y, o, b
o-g, y-g

Hammer ons and pullofs are notes that can be played without using the strum, you only need to hit the fret buttons.

A good song to train HO/PO is "My name is Jonas"

RE: Guitar Hero 3

Not what I was looking for. To be specific If you watch the youtube videos for through the fire and the flames they actually play the notes with 2 hands in the intro and those are not all HOs/POs. Maybe I just suck but is there something I am missing.

My Name is Jonas is a lot of fun to play though, La Grange is another fun one too.

Thanks though

RE: Guitar Hero 3

Tapping in GH3 or 2 for that matter, is that by using hammerons and pulloffs and two hands on the fret board.

Some parts is impossible to hit with one hand, so by using hammerons and pulloffs you don't have to strum them with your strum hand, you can use it to push the buttons instead.

You would preferably start of with strumming with your elbow and both hands at the fretboard, so you don't have to move up the strum hand after struumming.

I recommend that you watch this video if you don't really understand what I mean, it's a video of someone tapping a difficult solo.

Edit: To add something;

Actually, the intro consists only of hammerons and pulloffs, except the scale at the ending.

RE: Guitar Hero 3

Thanks for all the help. I guess they are all HOs/POs in expert, on medium I don't think they were. AS for the real techniques I have a limited experience with a real guitar (learned a couple metalica songs) so I understand what tapping and HO/PO is in real life. Was just hoping I missed somthing in the game. Well thanks again and +credit for all.

Still stuck on Rock and Roll all night in on hard mode (73%) :/

Yup, the intro to Through the fire and flames is all hammerons and pullsoffs on expert. On every other difficulty you need to strum the notes. Actually most songs with a lot of hammerons and pulloffs are on expert. But good luck on that song your stuck on, you'll get it

Plus, it helps that they opened up the timing of the strum and button hit. If that makes sense. From what I've read, now on expert, you can strum once in a fast section and hit, like, 3 notes with one strum, and not HO/PO. I actually don't like it myself, being so used to GH and GH2. But, they opened it so that people who have a hard time with HO/PO have a snowball's chance to be able to make it through fast sections.

Im just starting on Medium ( First GH game ). Its alot of fun but I find hitting the blue note a bit tricky. Maybe because im not used to it yet.

All you can do is practise I guess

RE: Guitar Hero 3

Yeah I started on Medium also, as I have never played any of the other games. Took me about a week to get through it with 5 stars on all but the last 4 (didn't bother just went to hard mode). I 4 starred the first one then managed to power through the next 3 but the encore is killing me. Stupid orange key! Hopefully I'll get thruogh a couple songs this weekend (if I am not trying to get my deer).

RE: Guitar Hero 3

What really helps me is to just slide your hand down, to where your first finger is on red. This is especially helpful if you're playing through a section with little/no green notes and lots of orange. That's what works best for me. I find it quite difficult to keep my first finger on green and trying to hit the orange with my pinky. Blasted carpal tunnel.

Studies show that 92% of teens listen to rap. If you are part of the 8% that listens to real music the add this to your signature.

Practice the intro once you get past it the rest is pretty easy. The key for me was actually listening to the song to help get the strumming right. There is a pretty identifiable pattern in it. That and hitting the POs from the orange to the green.

Personally I have to learn to strum down AND up. Its kind of funny becuase when I used to practice Metalica solos on a real guitar I naver had a problem going up and down to hit the notes.
