Which Expansion Pack?

A friend of mine is wondering which expansion is best, mind you, he is only active in Factions for about a week, and is now considering getting another expansion pack.

Prophecies is lowest priority for him, leaving 2 Expansions.

Nightfall & Eye of the North.

In general, which one is more worth its money? mind you, both are exactly the same price here, but he's only buying one this month.
So my question;

Nightfall? Or Eye of the North?

(In my opinion, Nightfall, longer gameplay, better storyline, and generally the 2 new Profession addon's sound better.
He Only has Factions Currently.)

Thanks.

RE: Which Expansion Pack?

Technically, only Eye of the North is an expansion.
But anyway, I would probably get Nightfall, I had a lot more fun playing it and overall it's a bigger game than Eye of the North.
So that's +1 for Nightfall

RE: Which Expansion Pack?

I'd say Nightfall for not only what all you had listed but he would also get two more character slots when he linked them together and the use of more Heroes.

RE: Which Expansion Pack?

If he's wanting value for money, Nightfall should be his choice. You get a vastly higher amount of content than EotN, which, as you already stated, includes two new professions, 364 skills (both elite & regular), numerous armours, and 20 missions (40 including HM). On top of all that, there's DoA once you've completed the storyline - the cherry on the cake!

Plus, due to your friend being relatively new to the game, and as EotN is classed as an expansion pack for more experienced players, it may not suit him too well, just yet.

Tell him to go for Nightfall - he won't regret it! ;-)

RE: Which Expansion Pack?

I'd say factions. I think the two new classes they introduce are more fun to play and more interesting overall. Also you can alliance battle which is fun. +The scenery in cantha is a lot better than elona in my opinion.

After that then I think eotn. The scenery is nice. The story is good. the dungeons are fun and the pve only skills are great.

Ummm... that's the one his friend already has :P

I agree, Nightfall before EotN (although I would really recommend prophecies, but given the two choices that is my pick). Basically what everyone else said: More skills, Longer Gameplay, DoA, Heroes (although you get them in EotN as well).

Can happen ;P

No, he's not getting Proph, i didn't advice that at all.

I mean, many still declare Proph as The original, which is true, it has disadvantages.

First and foremost, the guild were in isn't exactly to be named big, so he's already having a hard time getting random PUGS (90% of the time they either squabble into oblivion, or its something else you can think off)

Not everyone's always online, so i figured the heroes might come in handy, plus he likes the odd scrimmage once in a while, which is more fun with full fury (8 vs 8 with heroes)

Dont worry though, Prophecies will get its chance, but for now, its not on his mind.

(oh, and just figured, EotN doesn't exactly have nice armors does it? Most are just repainted Faction armors)

RE: Which Expansion Pack?

Since I totally dislike Nightfall. And some people say EotN aint worth the money. And he is kinda new to the game... I think I should say prophecies, biggest map, best storyline, most fun to spend time on IMO.

but yea IF IF IF i have to choose between EotN / NF i must say NF.. but I'd advice prop

Yeah actually, All 3 Games (Proph, Fac, NF) are stand alone games you don;t even have to link them but it is wise to if you want one big account. EoTN is just an Expansion which you can add to one of the stand alone games even if you only have 1, 2 or all 3 of the stand alone games.

Eotn is far more funny then NF was. I hate nightfall. The heros fucks the game.

I already explained that Proph at this moment is out of the question really, too much con´s, few pro´s.

If he's new and he doesn't want Prophecies, I'd stay stick to Factions and not buy any new games. Nightfall is boring, and EoTN may be too hard for beginners. Prophecies is 2nd only to Factions, and has an easy learning curve.

Ehh... really have to disagree with you here...
this is just in my opinion, but:

Pros:
Funniest Storyline
Big map
Best starter training
No lvl 20 in 1 day (if not power lvled)
Can't get max armor in 1h 30min if not being runned.
Funny
Nice looking armor
Cons:
No heroes
Can't be completed in 2 days without run (would really pick that as one of the Pros)
Long 15+ attrib quests
???

I would really pick proph, and if its already out of the question, get it in to the question again! It's really the funniest GW game (and game overall imo) ever!!!

Another thing i have to fix when i notice it tomorrow...

Pros:
Funniest Storyline
depends on taste, i dont see it being ''funny'', heh, no storyline is really funny, but if you try to mean longer and ''deeper'' then you are right. However, he plays this game alongside many others, storylines have little impact.
Big map
Aye, but Nightfall is big aswell.
Best starter training
Already has help on that, so its only as in longer starter training.
No lvl 20 in 1 day (if not power lvled)
Don't see a problem with that, storyline isn't really affected, he'd get a run to Kryta anyways.
Can't get max armor in 1h 30min if not being runned.
Shall be runned, Survivor title for Tyrian Char.
Funny
Others aren't then?
Nice looking armor
Depends on taste.

The choice has already fallen on Nightfall, besides, dont worry, Proph will not be skipped anyways, but for now its not worth much besides some irritation, Nightfall is longer leveling anyways, and then he gets to Ascalon which is even slower. So then its not a problem, instead of going ''cold turkey'' and from hyper to bulletime.

Prophicies WAS guildwars, a true game.

But they decided to make Factions which ended the slow paced fun once and for all. Factions ended it for the pros. level 20 in proph the original..usually menant you were a good player playing long and maybe a pro sorta. But factions introduced you to get a PvE char to lvl 20 in less than a day if you wanted to.... it was so rushed..

Cause factions was what i think a little mistake, they figured that everyone had Prophecies before, so skipped the tutorial and just made it a fast paced 3000XP per quest island for it.
Simple as that, it totally killed off Slow leveling yes.

And dont forget... both 15 PT attribute Quests were ON Shing jea..rather then Proph where they were actually very far in the game, decently far i might say.

It was balanced, bu having to fight lvl 20's off of shing jea is like..a shock espically for me when i got Factions in Apr 2006 i was not expecting it to be that fast paced, i expected another proph style...with the so called Asian theme.

Ah let it be, you can´t change history, and your not the head of Anet´s Creative Team i believe, so Factions is Factions, it was the first on top wherever he bought GW´s, he wasn´t that informed about expansion packs in the first place.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Blasphemy if he doesn't have Proph..it is GW. And you say "To few pros to many cons"?..every game is like that, or at least most. If you don't have proph you're missing out on so many skills, so many things. But if he is so determined not to get proph, go with nightfall...sigh...

RE: Which Expansion Pack?

proph is my least favorite the missions take more time than in factions/nf but also take less skill and the storyline is terrible (nf's was bad too but i think its a better game). NF is the right choice for him after that if he is more pve oriented i would go for eotn because overpowered pve skills are fun but proph is a lot more useful for pvp.

Please read posts before giving opinionizing someone.

I explained, he got Factions literally because it was the first one to spot at the store he bought it, he wasn´t up to date with GW´s expansions, he only knew a few things about it:

- Online
- RPG/PvP
- Guilds
- Pay up front, no monthly fees after.

So yeah, he could've gotten Nightfall if they'd have it there in the first place.
