Well after playing around with both the Shaman class and the Druid class (I chose these two because of their ability to fulfill the three major roles) i found that i leaned towards Balance Druids and Elemental Shamans. This brought me to once conclusion: I want a ranged DPS class. So, i played around with the hunter class, but i didn't like how they had to buy ammo (yes i am cheap)
so now i am indecisive: Mage or Warlock?
I know that the Warlock has the pet, but the mage is more noted for pure ranged power.
so i have a question.
Which one is
a) more fun to play (the most important)
b) more needed in radis/instances/pvp
c) more damaging then the other
d) less gear dependent
next, i would prefer to play horde, if race comes down to it.
thank you in advance

Definatley Mage. People love your sheeps, food, cc (crowd control), AoEs, and your kick-ass damage. Gear doesn't matter too much for either classes I guess, but locks need it more than mages (locks need alot of stamina).
For horde do a blood elf and if you don't have the expansion troll or undead are pretty equal just depends on which you like more.
For alliance (and dru would agree 100%) do a gnome, hands down. Dranei and human mages aren't as good (or as pimp).

a) This question is going to depend on you, mages have a lot of nifty little tricks, and require a lot of coordination to be played right, but can also easily kill multiple targets at once. Warlocks are the easy class, they have no downtime soloing, can basically go from 10-70 without ever stopping to drink or eat, they get different pets and a free mount.
b) both imo are equally needed in raids, instances and pvp. But PvP I think I would say warlocks are a little ahead of the mages (but let's see now with icy veins) because of the SL/SL build. But frost mages in bgs are a blast... literally lol
c) Again they're pretty close, but if both are equally geared it's going to depend on the players. Demo locks are not that up high on the scale, affliction locks will benefit more of long fights, but destruction warlocks are up there with mages. In the other hand mages, it doesn't matter what tree they use they will be up top, but of course some more than others.
d) My mage went from 40 to 58 without having to replace one piece of armor, I just simply used what I got from drops and/or quests. Warlocks are pretty much the same.
e) As for races, imo I would go undead mage, they have probably one of if not the best racial trait for pvp in the whole game, look cool, have the coolest mount and they look awesome when casting.
Warlocks I would consider going Belf, I hate their mounts but since locks get their own unique mounts that is not an issue, I also hate when they jump their left arms look limp it looks like it's broken and kind of gay... imo I would totally ignore trolls for mages and orcs look horrible in their lock mounts.

Mage > Warlock
My mage can spank a warlock in PvP so therefore I win! I think....maybe not. They are good for different reasons, mages have water, warlocks have healthstones. Mages have Intellect buffages, warlocks have pets with stam, stealth detection and some other buffages. Mages can sheep, warlocks can fear (though not as effective for CC). Mages PWND, so can a good lock.
So it all depends really.

A) Umm, wouldn't really know... never really played either :P
B) Mages are needed for their Water and Food and CC... Warlocks are needed for Healthstones, Summoning, CC... ? Warlocks in arena pvp are so easy-mode. Mages require more skill.
C)I dunno really, i've seen Warlocks top the damage meters and then again Mages.
D) Warlocks, of course since when grinding you can do it without armor even... pets are your best friend. Also with the right talents you can get alot of +spell damage out of barely nothing.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years, everyone.

Well, you can play a mage, and ignore everyone else in the team and instist on dealing ALL the damage yourself and scream: "priest heal me, heal me, keep me alive" :D
Or you can play lock, and use the soulstone on yourself, because you can and nothing else matters. If you're a tailor, say to heck with the priest as a tailor and out-need roll them on the Whitemend Hood that Warp Splinter drops.
You can really play either class. But knowing how to play them is another thing. Also, which class suits your style? In the end, it's what you'll feel most comfortable with.
How about.....shadow priest? LOL. Melt your face gewdness. :-D

I <3 my priest until level 30ish, I was holy disc, and now its hard because I kill things so slowly and I just stand there getting beat up and healing myself over and over...it sucks.
But that was funny...mage just does all the damage...if you are a GOOD mage and spec and play CORRECTLY you have threat reduction and know when and how to PEW PEW with the group so you dont have to stand there saying ZOMG HEALZ ME NOW!
lol

mages dps? thats a new1, iv never seen a mage outdo me as a loladin and neither have i seen1 out do a lock in raids not to mention they emotap all there mana back and make the healers cry blood :P
it really just ultimately depends on which you prefer as was said....afflic is the best pve lock spec atm and thats based on dot spamming where as mages are fire....lots of casting fireball lol.
but towards pvp locks are better in arena because there....gay and drain all your mana where as mages just want to stab you with ice while laughing at you for not staying melee long enough to break there ice barrier....lol with that said both classes are currently imo overpowered BUT they only gain that power once youved mastered there use and have the pvp gear to back it.
personaly i find locks to be a bore and have a 46 mage....quite fun as frost and i dont even like the spec xD
I am the Alpha and Omega, The beginning and the end, The first and the last

I hate teaming with stupid tanks that can't hold aggro, how can you do what you do best when you're getting hit. If you're taking little breaks to reduce threat then you're lowering your group's damage and that's all your tanks fault, I hate when I group with pugs and see the "90% of -insert name/tank- threat" message and I'm frost!!! Sucky tanks are out there so mages watch out!
