Been playing that game for awhile. and Just got a new VC less then 2 monthes ago. Today when i started COV up. I would enter an area (be it a mission or zone) and it would stop responding. So I took out my can of air cleaned the VC and the processer fan. Still the same, then system restore, the same, updated the VC driver, still the same. anyone have any suggestions?

What does your ISP and network look like?

Also, what server are you playing on?

Something like that makes me think it's either something wrong with the connection or the game itself, but a bit more information would be nice.

Not sure on how to check the ISP thinger,
Network speed
1.35megabits per second
164.55kilobytes per second
12.422seconds

I play on triumph and Guardian and it is happening on both.

ISP: Internet Service Provider i.e. Comcast, Verizon, etc.

But from your speed I'd say you've probably got some kind of DSL connection. So I don't think you have too much of an issue there. However, it would still be good to know what your home network setup looks like.

But firstly, did this start right after you got the Video Card?

Yeah, I doubt it's a hardware problem.

Verify all your files and see if that fixes anything.

Oh, and XP or Vista?

RE: COV Stops resonding

Another thought, is this happening whenever you enter a new zone after the first?

If so, you might want to check on what Port-range CoV requires and if all of it is available through your Firewall(s).
Oftentimes with zoning you switch to another port, going to the same zone twice yiou might end up using different ports even.

Might be something to check.

In either case, what happens about 45 seconds after things stop working? In case of network-issues this is about the point where you get that lovely "Lost connection to Mapserver" message.

Finally, there's two more things you might want to check. Your memory, available through taskmanager. Run the game in Windowed mode so you can keep an eye on it easily. The other is, if there's any system messages at the time things go south. You might want to browse through Eventviewer:
Start > Run type in eventvwr and hit enter.

XP
It cleared up on Guardian, but really bad in Triumph. What happens is the program just stops responding I am assuming that it must be with the game (not sure on how to check files)

anytime i go in any zome or mission. after 45 secs it just sits there. Until i hit ctr+alt+del, then sometimes i can shut it down. Other wise i got the blue hand (mouse pointer). and i can't click on anything.
Nothing on event viewer

Yeah, this is why I asked if you're running XP or Vista.

If you've only got 1 Gig of RAM and are running Vista it makes sense that you're running into issues. Also, if you have too many processes running in the background there might not be any memory left on the heap for CoX to allocate (use).

And thanks lani for the eventvwr tip. I'm making use of it already. ^.^

Edit: To verify all your files start up the CovUpdater and after it finds a connection click the button that says "Verify all Files" which will be above the button that says "Next ->".

RE: COV Stops resonding

The same exact thing was happening to me, I would lose connection whenever I entered a mish or zone. I have the solution! A person somewhere around CoX offices, accidently cut a wire, which made a ton of players DC out. Soon though, I was able to enter zones and mishes freely though.

RE: COV Stops resonding

Ok 'game just stops', what does that mean exactly?

- You can no longer control your character, but you see npcs going about their bussiness.
- You can no longer control your character and npcs stop moving, but do their rest animations instead.
- Your game's screen is effectively frozen. A still image.
- The game stops responding during loading of a zone.

One and two are again indicative of client-server communication troubles. The third means some kind of system/client hang the last could be anything.

RE: COV Stops resonding

East Coast servers had a major block up this morning. This included the official boards, since that server is also located on the east coast. So that may explain your problems connecting today.

Intermittent Connectivity to Website, Forums and Servers
Thursday, January 10, 2008
The City of Heroes Support Team is tracking a network and internet connectivity issue that is affecting customer access to the game's website, message forums and game access. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Yep, this issue kept me from playing when I got home from work. I could log in, then nothing....I would get to the server screen, then nothing.....i would get to the toon selection screen, then nothing....then i was getting the mapserver/DBserver, then the full blown check firewall/connection blah, blah blah...

This issue has passed for me, however if anyone else is still experiencing it, this is what it is and it is being/has been worked on as i just finished playing :)

Yeah, after getting Mapserver Disconnects twice yesterday morning, I decided to just not bother.
