Starting a Mesmer

I've always wanted to make a mesmer cause I think they're pretty unique and I don't have any caster characters. I was wondering what some good PvE builds were, what campaign I should start them on (I have them all), secondary classes, what items are the best, etc. I also don't know too much about them so if anyone plays them PvE and has any good information they wanna share please do. Thanks

EDIT: and yes, I do know that Mesmers are the least used PvE class, but that's one of the main reasons I wanna make one

RE: Starting a Mesmer

I used Sig of Illusions for the simple fact that you can make any spell you cast have 16 points in it... takes up your elite but i like being able to summon a lvl 21 ice imp or other asuran skill(from gwen). Downside being its a sig so rust and other skills can lower your effectiveness. The mesmer takes a wile to get used to. some ppl wont party with you but they are a great class with many options. arcane larceny plus Sig of Illusions is always fun. your play style really determines what kind of build fits you tho.

RE: Starting a Mesmer

My mesmer completed Prophecies using domination magic and completed Nightfall with illusion magic.
For PvE, I found out that illusion is much easier to use and skills like clumsiness and ineptitude, wandering eye and signet of clumsiness can do enormous damage on a target.
The AI makes spellcasters attack every few seconds so even clumsiness works on them.
A must have PvE spell is cry of frustration. It's a kurzick/luxon linked spell that interrupts and deals good damage to all foes in the area (huge radius) when it hits a hexed foe.

In areas with lots of painfull high damage dealing casters, like the domain of fear with its Rain Of Terrors, It is better to switch to domination. A bunch of interrupts, diversion, mistrust or guilt or shame and something antimelee like empathy should do.

Mesmers are about my favorite profession, I'm sure You'll enjoy yours. Have fun!

EDIT: spelling... Still early here...
And yes, I meant Cry of Pain, wich is a sunspear skill, thanks for pointing that out. I was still half asleep when I posted this :-p

CoF is a regular core PvE skill
the luxon/kurzic linked skill is Ether Nightmare.

A nice combination for PvE is long lasting mesmer hexes (eeg empathy, backfire)) with Cry of Pain (Sunspear skill) and shatter hexes (when the hexes tend to run out); gives some nice damage on foes :)

For PvP (RA, AB) i usually run a combination for which i made a guide a long time ago: Clicky
But i tend to fiddle around with skills a lot for mesmer ;)

As noted above Cry of frustration is not a PvE only skill but a core skill. I believe you are thinkging of Cry of pain which is a great PvE only skill linked your SS rank

Cry Of Pain

Good advice as this is a great PvE skill

RE: Starting a Mesmer

one of my favorite mes builds for PvE is

Arcane Echo
Energy Surge
Ether Nightmare
Cry of Pain
Signet of Corruption
Mantra of Inions
Necrosis
Res Signet

This build can put out a very nice amount of damage while draining energy almost constantly with 2 copies of e-surge. Signet of Corruption is your e-managment and Necrosis is for spamming while your other skills are recharging

RE: Starting a Mesmer

this is my mesmer roughly always the same built through HM, Tyria and cantha were done using migraine instead of ineptitude

but I found it works great

CoP was also added when PVE came out at r10 ss you do 100 AoE damage to HEX foes, Image of remorse is a nice spammable HEX to use with CoP

RE: Starting a Mesmer

I took advantage of Fast Casting for secondary professions skills through Prophecies/Nightfall.
[fc nuker;OQZCAsyEtAuAOouQxwxAwAGH]
[fc air;OQZCAMyEtQ4AOY5QYzxw3AGH]

Echo Jarm, Ineptitude + CoP = high dmg, and [correction] Aris [/correction] taught me throw in Accumulated Pain. [skill template;OQNDAcw9QOAsgLBKB2gDOcQoRA]

[edit] ...forgot, the only PvP build I got from an old friend I enjoy is Me/N that's pretty fun [Censored Sentinel's Skills;OQRDA4oHLiujcI1hTMG7BKA] [/edit]
