People are too rich?

This is one thing that makes me not wanna continue playing the game. I know there are people who play this to relax off work etc.. and i know there are people who play this to "accomplish" something. Get the best weapons and armors wasting hours and hours playing the game. I have played this as well and accomplished in my past 2 years alot in PvE like gotten fow armor and rare weapons. I like to play the game with one character only. The problem in that is i keep deleting the characters too offen and making new ones. And these days just seeing another person with fow "PKM" etc titles makes me wanna just rage quit from the game. About a year ago it wasn't that common to have a fow armor and rare weapons. People who had those were sort of a "gods" and everybody wanted to be like them, and thats what made some of us wanting to continue the game. These days possible by the couse of rare material values to drop fow armors are so common that almost everybody has them or on maybe all of the persons characters have it. I know GW2 is coming along and so on, but i still had to post this. I'm really not sure what should be done to it, or maybe nothing since GW2 is almost at the door step. At least the beta is.

Well, what are your thoughts of this?

That that's just how life is.

Some people make this game their life, that's their choice, and when they get FoW armor, they become gods among men, for some its just an accomplishment, others, like me (armor collectors) just like the look of certain armors, or mix them. And some people... well, they just lack something in real life like a good job, family etc. and Guild Wars compensates that in some matter with all the drooling/whisping people congratting on your new very rare armor.

But do not forget, Guild Wars has been in existance quite a long time now, and alot of long-time players know this game through and through, meaning along the way they've collected masses of money, and some spend it on cool weapons, others go for the mods, others for armor, and some... well, some just spend it on whatever they can get their hands on.

I dont play one character, i got 8 in total (1 PvP slot) and i collect and mix various armors, FoW has been appealing, but the demand of playtime to be invested isn't worth it for me, i dont see my Saturday night be gobbled away because i want 100 polygons of expensiveness, everyone has their opinion on it, and thats mine.

Guild Wars 2 will be just the same, at first, those who go in first come out first with the (then) rarest armors, weapons, and so on. A year later, alot more people know it, play it, and ofcourse, have achieved the now not-so-rare armor. That's just how things go, theres logic in it.

Titles at that point still work for those who where the first, they might have a few months headstart over the others, but even they will at one point go so slow with reaching another title, or real life comes bashing in with things, that others can catch up.

In any rate, im what you mentioned, the 'i play it to relax'' person, i do feel a need to dress up my characters properly, you wont see me in anything thats cheap UNLESS it makes an excellent mix. But the craving that i MUST aquire more titles then that player i seen at Xmas with the God Amongst Mere Men isn't what i have.
When you reach a point when you become so obsessed, i honestly think for a person its not harmfull to think about your life's priorities, and if theres something outside the game you can do, no offense intented, but there's more then gaming.
You don't always have to come late for work or school just because you HAD to do that elite mission with your guild last night. There's more in life, trust me.

very nice rant forumite, wouldn't really call it that though.

yes, there are a lot of rich buggers in GW, i, even at 3 sets of FoW and dozens upon dozens of sets of Elite armor, i don't consider myself even close to the top-end rich people who have all the mini-pets that cost as much as a set of FoW!, the perfect non-inscribable stormbow or crystaline, that sort of thing. i dont believe i have a single item worth 100k+ ecto's anymore.

used to, but those are long sold. in terms of wealth i'd still consider my assets and cash in the top 5%, 10% for sure. moving on though, it was mentioned that people just play it after work, etc. and are casual.

that pretty much nails me on the head, it just happened to be i relaxed to the joys of farming ecto's! lol.

i have 9 professions and i can almost guarantee i will never have the title "people know me", i'm pretty sure i'm a bit more well known that most people that actually have that title because of farming ecto's! hehe.

that aside, i do understand that there are people that lose sleep over this game and they will continue to lose sleep even when GW2 comes out when they are striving to be the best in every way possible and to show off as much as they can.

lets just call it painful obsession, or horrible insecurity. :P

that aside, i do understand that there are people that lose sleep over this game and they will continue to lose sleep even when GW2 comes out when they are striving to be the best in every way possible and to show off as much as they can.

I bought my first non-1.5k armor not to long ago, I actually prefered Droknar 1.5k Druids over anything else (that is, untill Ranger Norn armor =]).

I do have to admit that I decrease a bith of my sleep (8->6) when first encoutered with a new game...
Not to get all the new goodies or somethin' (see remark above =P) I just like to complete as much quests as possible.
I can say that on my main Characters I've completed almost every quest (in town and out) of both Tyria, Cantha and Elona.
And I also do most of the quest with a newly created character(s) on a new campaign.

Doesn't mean your any less rich really, i dont have any FoW armor, nor any real desire, only Ritualist and Paragon i truly like.
I just have plenty of 15K armors over my 8 RPG chars, and yes, as Everdream said, for me too the chance to get People Know Me on just one is non-existant, hence due to this, i dont really bother hunting titles, as i have no true main character.

Some of my in-game friends call me rich, yeah I do got FoW+chaos gloves and some expensive weapons and a mini gwen....
but I worked for it!
Really, you dont have to make GW your life, just be patient and save up a lot of things...
Sometimes I really get angry at ppl who are saying: You have expensive stuff! you got no life or used ebay! >.<

Thats just my opinion...

Played 30 months, got 2 15k sets, no FoW, no expensive weapons, no ectos.

I just have ~160k after saving for a very long time. Most of the cash I get is spend in titles (drunkard (1) Elite treasure hunter (5)) and not stuff, I don't want a FoW set + crystalline sword and a torment shield. Its common, its like a meta sin. everyone who can will get and use it. Im using the BMP weapons, look nice too and are free, so why spend 100k + ectos on something?

I only buy a new armor if I really start to dislike my current, for the rest, my money keeps in the storage till I need it. I don't farm either, I have farmed maby 30 ectos in my GW lifetime, nothing else actually. except from festival items.

Its just what u prefer, if you like farming 100 hours for a stupid shield, while you can get the same stats and another, but nice skin for 10k. Thats your choice. I don't, other people do.

funny you say that, the most expensive weapons i've ever had i felt bad when i customized them, some i didn't. i'd say the most expensive weapon i had (still have it's customized now so it's worthless to other players) was a R10 15^50, +30 20/20 Fellblade. it dropped and i modded it that way, uninscribable and when Fellblades were worth a Ton even for an R10. at the time of it's finding it was 100k+ ecto's, didn't know that and customized it and modded it out. now i don't even play my war, it's a mule.

also had some nice storm, eternal bows, eternal shields and chaos axes over the years, all of them were sold as i felt the green weps and collector weapons would serve me just as good.

and lets be completely honest, even when i was using the "rare and elite" weps, i'd still hear "nice armor, or nice dye combination" 10 to 1 vs. "nice storm bow, stats?"

I have been playing for 27 months. I have had no desire to get even one set of FoW armor (I think is fugly, but thats just me). I have never had a ecto in my possesion (it too much work to get 'em). I pretty much play now to talk to friends and goof off. When I see a group of people with Fow armor or PKM titles I don't get upset and say the title/armor is too common now, I just go about my business and say good for them. Everyone plays differently, some casual some "hardcore". Don't get mad at your fellow player because he has 400 ectos or super sweet armor, just tell em good job and keep up the good work.
Well thats my 2 cents and I geuss thats enough rambling.

I see people with better stuff than me great titles yeah its only human to want to have this high social standing. You should play the game if you are enjoying it imo and stop if your not a simple rule I don't follow that rule myself all the time but you havent waisted your time if you decide to stop because you learned not to fritter your time away grinding. and you havent waisted your time if you decide to stay because you enjoy killing monsters in new and exciting ways.
You dont have to be the jet set leet to play infact anet originally didnt want you to be able to be the jetset leet despite putting fow there. its only there as trimmings to get you to play harder parts for greater gains or to repeat things until they become easy. re playability is whats its called and being the best doesnt mean you get more out of the game it means there is less game to get. However its a game and you should look at it as you see it.

Lol some people get rich of just that one really lucky drop, my mates got 6 sets of FoW armour and not because he doesn't have a life or anything, but because of one drop which he sold and then he started power selling which is what he likes to do. I got a set of FoW Male Warrior armour, which msot peopel say looks pretty ugly, but it's just what i like. Took me a year and a half of casual playing to save up for thou lol.

Some people are good at making money, some aren't...
Some people are good at getting titles, some aren't...

But that doesn't always stat that one is more talented then an other.
Just play the game the way you like it, in your rythme, your style...don't really care about others and HAVE FUN !

That's how I do it.
I got the "Kind of Big Deal" title after two years of gameplay simply because I was enjoying the game as a whole and didn't go for titles. Only got some by "accident".

Besides GW2 is knocking at your door so just relax ;)

I dont have any FOW armor, mainly cause I don't like any of them. lol For my main character, she had Sanctum Cay's earth armor for over 2 years. Finished Proph. and Factions in it. I didn't buy a new set until after NF came out because I wasn't sure if I liked any of it. Now I love my Kurz 1.5k and have gotten the most whispers over it than anything else. I have bought the norn armor just because I wanted to see what a life size me looked like in my hall and it looked festive for Christmas. lol In the 31 months I have played I have gotten 380k in storage. All my money is made from selling off materials when prices have been high. I have farmed some, mostly the trolls when that was doable, but then for some reason, I also found it fun. It wasn't totally about getting money. I have never bought anything from another player and have only sold like 3 items in my GW life. I think the most I got was 1k from something. lol You can make money in this game by being casual. Just depends on your timing and if you think about alternative ways to make money if farming or selling stuff to playersis boring to you.

I would say that i have nothing compared to some people, i have bout 80k but i will be spending 75k on Elite Kurzick soon but i have yet to get enough amber, people sometimes call me rich cause i have a Chaos Axe (Rq 11) which i bought for 200g, if you want to look cool with your fancy weapon skins just get one that doesnt have the best stats so you can show it off.

What makes me not wanna play sometimes is the fact that some people out there have several maxed titles on several charas, a couple characters with FoW armor, Expensive Weapons, beat all the games on all their characters and i look at my entire account of 1760+ Hours in Guildwars and i have one character that beat Prophicies, Fac and NF, not yet beat EoTN (at the end pretty much) and my assassin who only beat factions but the rest of mycharas are level 20. I have a few sets of 15k armor but no FoW armor, ive never been to the Fow or UW or DoA i dont have ultra leet weapons or vanqueshed every area or have max titles.

Thats what makes me sort of mad.

EDIT: I'll tell you one thing tho if i had like 1000k in my storage you bet ill be living it high on gw. :)

your mad at yourself because you havent done those things in that amount of time?

people arent too rich, its everyone else thats too poor. people that are desperate to be rich will probably never be. Because they are too impatiant. I must make about 5k a day just picking up and id'ing white items, even if i dont play for that long. thats just picking up white items before i have farmed or anyhting else.

But people get too frustrated too quickly when they cant do something straight away, so they quit and go whine somewhere about everyone else being rich 'by chance'.

I must have spent about 50k trying to learn how to use the uw terra tank farm properly, when i finally got it spot on, i managed to get 105 ectos in just over 2 1/2 weeks of farming there. and made a profit in white - gold items of about 15k overall.

it really isnt hard to make money in gw if you actually try instead of always looking for a quick fix. spending ages farming for some rare item that you can sell for 70k odd. but as soon as you get it, you blow it then look at an empty storage again.

those who always have money arent uber 1337 and ebayers and people who get lucky, they are just smart enough to collect and save things and sell at the right time. thats all it is, no more, no less.

every char ingame can farm in some sort of way, maybe apart from paras + mesmers, and there are plenty of guides here on GA to look at, so quit complaining and either get up or shut up.

na, its completely solo but an absolute pain in the ass to get right. but once you get it, its pretty straight forward, and its quick.

ive been playing over two years and the best farming i can do is killing hydras in crystal desert. i dont like farming, i just like to.....uh... annoy people on forums...

I don't even farm anymore and I can keep anywhere from 100-200k in my storage from just playing through the game and doing treasure chest runs in NF every month. I have Elite armor on all of my chars (8 PvE chars total) and certain ones have multiple armors (my ele has 5 on display in the HoM ^_^). I never really ever farmed all that hard, just sold alot of stuff as merchant fodder and when I was lucky enough, got a good item that I sold for a decent chunk of change. Alot of people think I'm rich cuz of the armor, items, and titles that I have, but I'm by no means rich at all. Just well enough off that I can play comfortably and do what I want in GW :P.

28 months, 2 sets of Fow, costed more then double their cost now.

Shitload of 15k's (Some chars with em deleted)

War with FoW and 3 more 15k sets + 3½ deleted ones.People know me title, 28 months active.

Farmed 2 weeks straight for FoW chest to warrior x).
Really regret FoW ele armor, looks terrible.

I like armors and the same goes for weapons. I use what i like (With the exeption of FoW armor which i use because it feels like a waste to have it if i do not use it.)

Sure i got cash and can get what i want but some ppl got cash enough to buy All pandas and anything they want without having to work much for it, (i dont consider powertrading work)...
