ok i just got kicked from a team for what i think is like the 5th time ever for this reason, but anyway i feel a need to vent a litte.
its currently 4am here in the uk and teams are scarce so i manage to get an invite on the only high lvl one going a power lvling lvl 50 team with the leader an sg leader at 26 who almost didnt invite me to keep the boss spawns down.
anyway i get on the team and instantly get speed boosted on my 41 dual blades will power.
ok i admit i hate speed boost on all toons, scrapper more so cos i like to micro manage my movement while melee fighting, is that so unreasonable?? the answer is and should be no.
now my DB/WP is so finely balance that i could fight with my 4 toggles on for in excess of 30 mins solid fighting without the need to pop a blue, with SoW it may as well be infinate end.
my attacks i start with blinding feint and then proceed to loop the 2 top combos. i can do this without even a single half second gap as the charge rates are perfect so when i say this girl doesnt need sb i really realy mean it.
so i ask politely no speed boost for kuchiki plse.
again i get it again i ask politely no sb
and again, and a 4th then i get a tell from the leader
im skating on thin ice, speed boost is on a macro live with it. translated to me this means, shut up now or be kicked.
this of course provokes my darker more evil vicious side so i reply (in team chat) you think i care if you kick me, "i hate speed boost and i will fight with my last breath not to have it, yes i hate it that much" something like that anyway.
to which i am promptly kicked from the team.
now this isnt the 1st time this has happened and it wont be the last im sure. but i will fight for my right to not have this power forced on me. its my choice and kinetics need to understand this.
someone plse back me up here??

Heck, I'll back that up till the day I die. All for a few reasons they have that are completely flawed.
#1 It speeds thae character up. True, but you ever team with an idiot that uses SS all the time? jumps past the mob you can handle straight into the mob you can't, and then he blames the team for not being able to deal with it when he, or more likely, the team dies.
#2 It bossts end recovery. Another true point. But if you rely on that SB to keep your end from diving with your build, how does it work when you don't have it? Horrible. Pure worthlessness IMO.
#3 It allows for faster runs. Right. Add flaw #1 and flaw #2 what happens? #1 You get into trouble, so the guy doing the SB dies. #2 the guys relying on it are unable to fight, so they die. #3 the only ppl left cannot handle the situation and either flee ot die. Great solution.
Realistically its a situational call. When it is quite controllable, even I can work with it. Farms are situations where in most cases you can use SB and actually make it better, faster, more effective. But when the person, or the mish, does not work well with it, it only makes it worse. Like me, speeding past the mob I want to agro and getting the attention of the next makes for a messy situation.
With Speed Boost, ask first, and don't give if its not wanted.
Then there is the other issue of those that allways spam 'SB me' cause they actually think its needed...
Big Chill is a conscranker: he conrols a mob so they do nothing, scraps a target till they can't stand, and tanks what's left till the job's done.
Dive in, have fun, and think about it later.

While saying something dark isn't usually the best thing, I do feel that asking SEVERAL times to not be SB'ed does kind of give you good reason to have gotten so frustrated.
While I personally love SB, I do know that there are people who don't and if they don't want it, either because they don't need it, don't like the +run speed, or what not, it should not mean it should take tons of effort to not click on someone and boost them.
Its like any buff, the sonic shields or /fire shield on a Corr can bother someone's graphics card or eyes. Its just plain rudeness to keep putting on someone who doesn't want it. My usual teammates can't deal with the newer sonic shields, so we don't have any toons with them. (We did have one team at one point with one, but has since been abandoned because of the changes.) If someone doesn't want Fort/CM/SB etc, just say so, and its not put on them.
Thats what keeps me with them, they are some of most fun people I know on this game. And when I'm not with them, and I get on some craptacular team, I have no quandaries about quitting.

I'm complaining about that for ages now.
And I'm really glad someone is with me on this...at last.^^
I HATE Speed Boost.
My attackchains and my end-management is fine without it and I don't like the +speed, cause it ruins my timing in combat.
Every time I tell "No SB plz", the people start arguing with me.
How someone don't want to be SBd...??
I have gone thru that debate a 100 times and I still hate it when it comes up again.
I never got kicked for not wanting SB.
I just leave if a Kinetic boosts me again after I told him not to twice.
I'm listening to real music.

I don't rely on SB, and I can't say I am against it, but I will say that asking 4 times for people not to give you speed boost, and then still getting it, is just rediculous. For people to say "Its a macro, deal with it," is just plain rude. Not everyone likes a move...People these days...
Saying something like that is like saying "I am going to pull the entire mish and wipe us, DEAL WITH IT!" Its anhoying, and stupid.

Srry to say this, but as a blaster i LOVE sb. It gets my attacks out faster (more DPS) and it keeps my end up, also, i always get hurdle instead of swift since i always get ss (for that tiny vertical bonus), so im normally slower than everyone else and enjoy the speed

I used to back in the old days run a kinetics defender and speed boost ppl at the atlas entrance in the hollows. (I had a taxibot too lol anyone remember those?) There I was given rock star treatment as since this was before the advent of the raptor and jump packs. People that worked the hollows had to really play smart to dodge all the insane mobs that lurked there to get to their missions (and not all of them made it lol). The boost served as a great way to help people get to where they needed to go fast and more safely. Unless they ran into a burning patch of pumacite they usually were ok and could outrun just about everything. I didn't think too much back in those days that even some people don't like SB. I thought that there was such need that it didn't bother me to boost everyone around me, till I admit someone tried to lecture me once about proper boosting etticate. What can I say I was a noob back then lol. Live and learn, I would like to say and think that I am a smarter, wiser gamer now.
It's all about choice, and to get it on a team or not should defiantly depend on you. Anyone who thinks differently, well you don't need em. and I have yet to see anything in forums about how to make a macro that speed boosts everyone automatically. Sounds like someone just wanted to not worry about what whether a person can handle their character or not under the conditions of SB. Speed boost (aka: crack) does have good benefits, with the better end recovery, and faster recharges on top of the the speed. however it does make your char a bit hard to control. Running my peacebringer the other day I ended up on a team with 3 kinetic wielders that insisted on "cracking me." One application i'm fine and i've learned to compensate for the excess speed. However 2-3 of them stacked on just about any char will make even a slow stone tank unusable because they move so fast it's impossible to run the character. After trying to compensate, I retreated to my dwarf form and even that hulking brute was pushing warp 8, I had stopped my self twice from overshooting the mobs we were attacking and plowing into the next one.
I politely asked for just one dose, and then for them to spam increase density on me to help slow me down till the boost wore off. The kinetic teammates were kind to me and respected my wishes, but not all of em will.
I have a sg mate friend of mine who absolutely hates speed boost. Most of us in the sg will respect his wishes, unless he does something bad (team wipe level bad) and then a brief speed boost to him and a chuckle is all the punishment he needs lol dont worry even though he hates it, he also has a sense of humor about it.

First of all, let me say I am a big fan of SB, both as a giver and receiver. It offers many benefits that others have already mentioned. That said, I have teamed with people who have requested not to be buffed, and I always try to comply (I do forget sometimes as I am going down the player list, whoops!). Folks that do not want SB have their reasons: some just don't like it, some hate the movement speed on some maps (like caves), some people have lag and SB makes it worse. Whatever the reason, it is that person's choice whether they want to be buffed or not, and the buffer should always do their best to comply.
On the other side of the coin, as the buffer, I have quit teams that would not leave me alone regarding SB. Every 2 seconds, it's "SB plz", "Sb plz", over and over again! Jeesh!! (Sorry, that's just my own venting :P)
Part of your problem sounds like it could just be you were not a good fit for what that team was trying to do. I believe you said they were a high-level PL team? I have found that those teams are generally not very laid back nor open to procedural changes. They have things set up to maximize xp with as little effort as possible, as you found out when the leader refused to stop using his SB macro. I am not condoning the behavior, just offering a possible reason for it.

no he was just being a arse, i was contributing alot to the attacks and for some reason what ever macro he was using (dont ask what i have no idea) prevented him someone how speed boosting me,
its also not really a question of me not being able to control with SB 80% of my toons have SS as a travel and jinxy cat can outrun some tpers, i just prefer not to have it on melee and that has translated to all toons now.
i only will tollerate sb at 1 point in the game and thats the vahz wasting disease. and sb compensates for the super end and hp - regen.

What always gets me about the Speed Boost Advocats is that they always think "Faster is Better".
Which in my case, is not.
I have minor speed boosts on my toon already. I can handle those, I'm prepared for them. I'm not prepared to tap my forward key and suddenly not be standing behind my team, but behind the enemy mob and in perfect view of the next mob...
In short, when someone can't control a toon well when Speed Boosted, it's not advantageous to anyone to cast it on them.
And Macro'd SB? Geez, I don't even macro my three shields I have to repeatedly cast on the whole team. (Except when someone 's pc can't handle the graphics as sometimes happens).
It's that "My way must be the only True Way as it says so on a forum I read once" mentality so prevalent amongst many players, especially powergamers, that causes this. Personally I think you're better of leaving a Group where this happens.
Maybe with a different line, something like "Sorry folks, I'm here to have fun. Continuously being slapped with Speed Boost against my wishes is NOT fun. So I shall depart" *Poof*

Ok, lani, I know you hate Powergamers, but we aren't all assholes like you tend to imply. It's not powergaming to SB everyone, it's being nice. If someone asks not to be SB'd, then I don't SB them, unless for some reason they actually need it. This almost never happens, unless its a particularly long AV fight. If someone in a long drawn out fight is runnin low on endurance and their DPS is suffering because of it, I hit them with SB whether they want it or not. Thats doing something for the good of the team. But if you don't obviously need it, and you have asked not to have it, then you don't get it.
Hell, on my fire/kin you have to beg for SB to get it. I contribute a hell of a lot more to a team situation than tossing out SB. There have even been times that I've considered dropping SB in favor of some other power simply because SB doesn't do anything for me personally. =D

I don't hate powergamers and I don't imply they're all @$$#@!#$. That's your interpretation you put to things.
I just loath the mindset, which is predominant amongst many pwoergamers more so than amongst casual gamers that because they found (or read) a way of doing things it must be done that way, by everyone. It's a whole different mindset.
It's that closed-minded "My way or the high-way" attitude that I hate. Be it in groups, forum discussions or Real Life. It never hurts to be considerate to people.

That "My way or the Highway" mindset does not belong to Powergamers alone. It belongs to every group. There is always some @$$#@!# who won't listen to the wishes of others. I didn't bring power gamers into this conversation, you did. You don't wanna imply that they're the ones doing the most wrong, leave us out of it.

That's a perfectly good reason to SB someone without asking.
I would never complain about it in that situation.
But I hate it if a Kin tries to keep his team "on crack" all the time, even the player that don't want it.
Besides...most all-cracked-up-teams tend to be transformed into a bunch of uncontrollable morons, jumping and running around like madmen and getting killed pretty fast, cause everybody aggros a different mob.

i get a mixed bag when i run my Kin troller. i will completely respect ANYONE's refusal and i do make it know that my SB is only slotted for END MOD for that reseaon alone. i guess it all depends on what you're used to. my first toon is a fire/fire speedster so i got used to running around zones like Hammy from Over the Hedge. it all comes down to personal preference and that is something i can respect as a player, as far as i'm concerned with my toons Please by all means..bless me with the boost.

Does anyone play a scrapper with reflexes? These powers boost your speed and to top it some have fitness with swift as their 1st power. My gf plays one and when they cast speed boost on her it looks impossible to play. Speed boost would be cool if you got as a younger char and thus were able to use it as a travel power for your team. But as it is it seems to disrupt playing styles, not just for scrappers either. To be honest i have not played a kinetics char ever! So i only know half the story, but basically anything that affects my playing style does not sit well with me.

You could always make a set of binds that have the conversation for you.
/bind numpad1 "Please don't SB me"
/bind numpad2 "Because it messes up my precise movement control"
/bind numpad3 "That's nice for you, but I don't want it. Thanks".
/bind numpad4 "You freaking SB rapist! I don't need this"

General comment on this thread... We all agree SB and other powers should be up to the player, not to the caster. We all also agree that SB is good in some situations (Stone tank/Dwarf form kheldian) and not so much in others (precision controlled scrappers and such).
There. Now don't we all feel better :)
Oh! Last thing:
I've been playing with SilverPuppy and his wife (can't remember their gameamp names), but one of his wife's alts is named "Speed Boost". At first, I though you were ranting about her :)

Hahaha yeah my wife has a character named speed boost. and yeah people still ask her what her powers are lol And no she isnt a gameamper, but she does like to visit the site.
and yes I like SB on most of my characters, from my tank, PB, warshade,blaster, especially my lvl 38 controller. A jack frost pet on crack is a beautiful thing.

I find that SB never needed, but on some my toons it is welcome and some it is not. How ever, when I am two boxing with my kin troller for support I have a macro set up to select next teammate and use SB every time its up. I don't think I've ever used when not playing with friends but know people that do. So that might explain it sometimes when people just spam the heck out of it, thats why I alway ask if there is anyone there when they wont stop using SB on me. Then I quit and start a much better group.
