might be changing

Well right now i play on Blood Furnace as a gnome mage but im getting tired of its low population.

So im getting this "crazy" idea of changing servers to medium or high pop pvp serv as a horde. But im not sure wat class i want to be. I liked mage but the survivability and downtime becuz of mana is getting on my nerves.

So my question is what class
-im not a fan of all around classes
-looking for good/great damage
-low downtime
-can solo well but still handy in groups
-good in PvP(very important for me hehe)

Not looking for
-AoE
-all around

Im thinking either rogue or shaman so far but wud love to hear wat u guys say

RE: might be changing

Well, Shamans may be slightly more beneficial for groups than rogues, due to their totems.

Both, I've found, do fairly well at solo. Rogues Combat Spec and Shaman's Enhancement spec are the levelling specs. Though Shamans can take more damage, due to their totems and healing.

Not too sure on PvP, though I personally enjoy rogues more, but I'm not really experienced in pvp yet. Rogue Stealth means you have more mobility and control over your own advantage.

If you want to do rogue, and want to be useful to a group, be sure you put points into Master of Subtlety and keep your lockpicking up. MoS is extremely nice when they want you to sap enemies and you're a bit lower levelled. As for Lockpicking, especially in Outlands, I've seen many surprised groups because generally rogues don't even bother with lockpicking :).

Downtime: Shamans have more downtime than rogues. Food regens health faster than water regens mana. Also, if you keep your First Aid up with rogue (which is a must), the downtime is even faster; usually you can get to the next enemy without missing a beat.

And if you go to a pvp server, I like rogues much more because they get ganked less. Stealth is awesome. Many times, I've seen other lower levels dropping like flies, and I don't even get seen.

Shaman is an all around class >.<

Anyways it seems you like the caster type, then without a doubt the perfect fit would be Warlock.

-NOT all around.
-Can rival the mage in damage.
-NO downtime at all. After I would say level 20 you will never have to drink or eat again.
-Can solo anything that is soloable, and it is very handy in groups.
-Probably one of the best PvP classes in the whole game.

There you go.

I suggest not oging to a high pop server just because you may end up in endless queues to get in. Earthen Ring is starting to get queues again, it took me almost an hour to get on last saturday...it was the suck...

Go to a medium population server and you should have no problem finding groups, playing with others, etc. And you shouldnt have an issue with queues either.

Just IMO

RE: might be changing

I play horde on Smolderthorn (PvP). It is a medium to high population server. There is sometimes a short (less than 10 mins) queue in prime time (7-9PM server time) but not that often. There are many active horde on Smolderthorn and it is pretty easy to get into groups. The top horde guild is Nightmare's Asylum and they have Illidan on farm status.

As far as the class, I would say warlock as well given your criteria of low downtime, caster damage, etc. Warlocks are generally welcome in instance groups and fare very well in PvP.

Druid is also pretty quick for leveling (esp. feral build). It is a bit of a hybrid class but that can be good because of the flexibility to get into groups. Even if you are feral spec, you can still be the healer in groups up until the level 60 dungeons if you have a few pieces of healing gear. And you could decide to switch to balance (Moonkin) spec which does a lot of caster damage and has little other responsibility in a group. I would not recommend leveling as a healing spec in any class (takes too long).

RE: might be changing

Warlock fits the bill for the conditions you set.

Good for groups, generally pisses people off in PvP and gets the nerf bat regulary.... so they must be good! As far as a solo toon you get to bring a Tank along for company and they have to be the all around best character for farming materials. Down time is almost nill with life tap and a bandage. Since all build variations of Warlock are just different variations of DPS application, no one will ever ask you to respec to a healing build.

I'd say that the Hunter class is a close second for your set of conditions. But most servers seem to already have too many of them.

Although you didn't want AoE, most of the DPS classes have some sort of AoE, but you don't have to use them all of the time. My Warlock single target spells are nasty damage dealers. And an Affliction Lock is more single target oriented.

The Shaman is an all round character class where if you were to run one, folks would prefer you to be Resto. The lack of true crowd control in the Shaman class tends to jade some of the other players into not wanting the DPS versions of Elemental and Enhancement. It's really a shame. Although the Shaman class isn't the best DPS in their own right(Don't get all huffy you Shamans....), they tend to make everybody else in the team better. Too many folks overlook that fact.

With an Elemental Shaman teamed up with Warlocks and Mages, they have more mana and can blast away to their heart's content. Put an Enhancement Shaman in with a Rogue, and the DPS is just sickening. The other classes can supply CC, you would supply uber group buffs.

I still say Warlock is your best bet, but those who know me on this forum know I'm a tad bit partial to them! >^__^<
