Gender bending to your advantage.

Ok, I know how wrong this sounds but bare with me for a sec.

I am a guy and I used to run your regular toons. I had your male blaster/blapper, your male scrapper and your male tank. I got into trouble, I had to fend for my self.

I decided I wanted to try out a female toon. I made a sexy, but not overtly, Psi Scan. Looks nice but not the “created by a teen perv” nice kind of way. Now, everytime I play her, at least once per setion, some other player comes by to hit on me. Everytime I take on the bad guys, someone wants to help me out. I’m telling you it’s WRONG. And weird all at the same time. The funny thing is when I tell them I am a guy, then suddenly they say they were “in character”.

It's a free world, do what you want, and if it's beneficial and everyone's happy that they think they're teaming with some gamer chick, I guess there's nothing wrong? :P

I have a female toon as well, I roleplay a bit, and to not sully the 'nice and clean' picture of female characters, I refrain from using... manly jokes, when playing as her.

well i play a bit of female toons to and i hate being hit on on male or female toons!
i just tell who ever is hiting on me that this is not a dating game and it mostly works.

as a told one guy when i was play just because my toon is male doesn't mean im male and vise versa.

I'm not a altoholic...no really i only have 1000+ toons...thats not..really...never mind.

Apparently the few female toons I have must not be sexy enough. I never get hit on (which is just fine with me), and I don't see it happening in the teams I am on. Maybe it is just the times I play, usually early morning or late night.

I find it funny that people (who aren't role-playing) will hit on other toons. What exactly are they thinking... None of my characters look like me in real life (well except for Das Carrot)...

I don't have a problem with it until it get rude or it take away from the gaming experience.

I was just on a team recently where we finished a mission and one of the player said something crude... I promptly said thanks for the team an left.

That kind of stuff doesn't make the game enjoyable and I am not going to stick around and put up with it.

I like to really get into character sometimes when I play and have more than once taken agro and died to save a female toon on my team. I've never hit on a female toon cause that would be creepy, even if it was really a girl in real life.

Normally, I wouldn't make any moves on a female toon, but Lani's Avatar did wink at me first...

I have only created one female toon thus far. I played her up to the mid teens, so not a lot of time. I never got hit on, but it was definately interesting how the character was treated in game. It seemed almost as if they assumed I was a girl and treated me more politely.

An ingame friend (a guy in RL) only creates and plays girly toons. He has always laughed at the fact that he gets hit on from time to time.

And when I asked him why he only makes fems, he responded with "They are easier on the eyes, and more fun to watch".

i typically make female characters, mostly because of the way the female figure's physics work better with the costumes i create. the male characters i have mostly look the same, and also take longer for me to draw, and i draw my characters a lot.

I think anyone who hits on a video game "toon" is off, and really should get out more to meet real women. I mean come on, it's not a true visual representation of the person behind the computer.

My wife and I both play the game and yes, we are among those select few sick individuals that enjoy the more 'adult' side of the game. We belong to a rather large and active Mature SG that has much to offer the people like us that like the idea of unwinding in a hot tub after a full day of beating up on villians.

I myself play female toons and everyone knows that her and I are husband and wife. Yet I end up in more crazy situations than she does, and YES, I know that a majority of those people are NOT female in real life.

To us, it is like a really good story. Take a great fantasy or sci/fi novel with a wonderful story line, great characters and throw in some racy situations with some gratuitous thoughts and you have a GREAT book. That is the way we percieve the game. I'm not having any kind of sexual relationship with the person on the other end of the other toon. I am controlling a female character that is having a hot time with another female character.

Different people have different play styles and different people have different views on what they find enjoyable in the game.

Never had any problem playing female toons; I am never bothered by anyone trying to hit on me. Probably because most females I play are often quite conservatively or classically dressed...

Oh, and most often over 7 feet tall.

The guys in my SG all have female toons. I tried it, and it just didn't feel right. We don't get into character much, but it made me feel kinda creepy... no matter what, it seemed like I was always checking out her butt. I never even think about it when I play my dudes. Just for fun, we usually hit on the other guys female toons.... Their wives usually don't think it's too funny, they keep getting grossed out.

one funny story:
I was playing in the Hollows, and on a team about to do the FF mish. We were waiting for someone to get their insp's and were just standing around. There were about six of us. All of a sudden this other emp defender pops off in all caps, "DUDE, I'M A DUDE!!!!"

"She" wouldn't tell us which toon it was, but as the other emp def on the team, I noticed I had to keep healing this one scrapper a lot cause someone wasn't doing any extra heals on him.... hmmmmm.... I wonder....

I tend to play mainly female toons, it's just been a habit of mine, i guess. nothing wrong with it, and in game idiots are bound to happen. I tend to ignore the come ons.

Just a friendly reminder Ampers, please keep in mind that adults aren't the only ones that read forums/post. I don't mind when things take a mature level but there is a point where some things have to be keep to a minimal. We have a wide variety of users and we would like to keep everything readable by all ages.

The staff on CoH will edit post when they start to cross a line that isn't need. If any post(s) keep up any actions we deem unfavorable we will have to lock threads. If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to PM me.

On the topic of hand, Im with Swiss, I have made a very female heroines (I rarely make them) and have thankfully never been hit on. I am not quite sure why players think its a good idea because you never know whats on the other side of that tell. Male, Female, Chris Hanson.....eh, eh....anyone.....haha.

But to add to comment by Doug, Im not sure what your thinking but every character I make is dead on me. I were spandex daily with a cape and cowl. Plus I sport terrific martial art skills and I have been told my reflexes are uncannily fast.

First off, I'll say I think it's inappropriate to "hit on" characters ingame, for the simple reason that, aside from what the gender of the person is on the other side of the net, the AGE of the person on the other side could get you in real trouble.

That being said, I've found that on my female characters I have FAR less problem finding teams.

To be honest I think any 'dude' running around as a 'dudette', especially one clad in 'Eden' top and 'Bikini 1' bottom, fully deserves any awkwardness he may experience from being hit upon by another 'dude'. I hope he learns something from it, possibly about how is own real-life cat-calls affect the women who did not get to ref up the breast-slider by choice in Real Life for example.

Other than that. Could someone point out the inappropriate bits in this thread? I understand I may be suffering the effects of cultural differences here, Dutch tend to be more liberal about things like sexual education as it keeps down unwanted teen pregnancies. But last I checked this game is Teens and I see nothing here that would be inapropriate for a teen to be aware of?

I had one guy in one team refused to leave a mission as he tried to chat up the NPC hero, in the end we had to boot him to get the next mission. His last tell was "hold on, I think she likes me." My SG still laugh about it!

I have a few girl toons and have never been hit on but have had 2 gifts from people running past, who were gone before I could even say thanks. I wouldn't chat up a toon as you don't know age, sex and such of the person behind the keyboard. Chatting between missions is part of the fun of the game and sometimes the banter gets adult but always playboy rather than penthouse in content.

A lot of the time I can pick the sex of the player from the way a toon look is designed most of the time and if a guy hit on one of my female toons, I'd see it as complment on my design skill not a threat to my macho self.
As a guy who likes to dance, and did so in the last days of disco, I've had gay guys hit on my hairy self, it's no biggy.

We control the content on the CoH site. We remove what we consider inappropriate for the target audience. We don't control the Guild Wars site. If the GW staffers wish to remove said content, they will. If that were posted here, chances are it would be removed.

General rule: If you think something isn't "work appropriate" it's probably not "CoH Gameamp Appropriate" either. I usually follow the "religion, politics, sex" rule, avoid all 3 at work/on here.

Interesting difference in corporate culture. My boss classifies sex under the general heading of entertainment, to which I should add also belongs (online) Gaming. Politics, in moderation is allowed and so is religious or cultural discussion. During coffee breaks.

But your Site manager has already elected to pick this issue up with me in PM, explaining he wasn't intervening as Community- but Site Manager for one, so I'll leave it at that. Please continue discussing 'safe' topics. Might I suggest the weather? :-P
