Update - Thursday, January 17, 2008 

Skill Updates

We will be evaluating the following changes over the course of the next week. Additional adjustments may be made during that time period.

Guild versus Guild

* Archers: now have Precision Shot.
* Footmen: now have Pure Strike.
* Knights: now have Warrior's Cunning.
* Victory or Death: reduced the damage bonus to +15%; removed the maximum Health reduction. Guild Lords now prioritize other Guild Lords over players as targets.

Assassin

* Viper's Defense: changed Skill type to a spell; increased casting time to .25 seconds; functionality changed to: "All adjacent foes are Poisoned for 5..20 seconds, you Shadow Step to a nearby random location."
* Heart of Shadow: functionality changed to: "You are healed for 30..150 Health and Shadow Step to a nearby random location."
* Scorpion Wire: decreased recharge time to 10 seconds.
* Caltrops: decreased recharge time to 10 seconds.

Dervish

* Pious Assault: increased Energy cost to 10; functionality changed to: "You lose 1 Enchantment. If this attack hits, you deal +5..20 damage and inflict a Deep Wound for 5..20 seconds."

Elementalist

* Elemental Flame: increased Burning duration to 3..5 seconds.
* Glyph of Essence: decreased recharge time to 20 seconds.
* Chilling Winds: increased duration to 30 seconds.

Mesmer

* Wastrel's Worry: increased damage to 20..80.
* Mind Wrack: increased duration to 30 seconds.
* Kitah's Burden/Ethereal Burden: reduced recharge time to 30 seconds.
* Hex Eater Vortex: decreased damage to 30..90; increased recharge to 15 seconds.

Monk

* Divine Healing/Heaven's Delight: increased the area of effect to earshot.
* Patient Spirit: decreased duration to 2 seconds; increased healing to 30..120 Health.
* Restore Life: decreased casting time to 4 seconds.
* Renew Life: decreased casting time to 4 seconds.
* Vengeance: increased damage bonus to +25%; decreased recharge time to 30 seconds.
* Aura of Stability: decreased duration to 1..16 seconds.

Necromancer

* Signet of Agony: increased damage to 10..70.
* Wail of Doom: decreased Energy cost to 10.

Paragon

* Spear of Fury: increased adrenaline gain to 2..6 strikes.
* "We Shall Return!": decreased Energy cost to 5.
* "Fall Back!": decreased Energy cost to 10.

Ranger

* Power Shot: decreased activation time to 1 second.
* Precision Shot: decreased activation time to 1 second.
* Penetrating Attack/Sundering Attack: decreased activation time to 1 second.
* Magebane Shot: increased Energy cost to 10.

Ritualist

* Rejuvenation: increased Spirit's level to 1..16.
* Sight Beyond Sight: increased duration to 12..25 seconds.
* Sundering Weapon: now affects the next 3 attacks.
* Warmonger's Weapon: increased recharge time to 30 seconds.

Warrior

* "Coward!": decreased adrenaline cost to 4 strikes.
* "You're All Alone!": increased duration to 8 seconds.

Bug Fixes

* Fixed a bug in the Eye of the North quest Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza! that occasionally prevented players who had regained full Energy from standing up after being knocked down.
* Fixed a bug in the Eye of the North quest Leader of the Pack that prevented some players from completing it.
* Fixed a bug with the Eye of the North PvE Skill Ursan Blessing that caused it to incorrectly replace some Skills when its effect expired.
* Fixed a bug that could cause a player’s profession to appear using the wrong gender-noun on the character select screen in some languages.

Miscellaneous

* Added the option to bind keys that activate Hero Skills. These keys can be bound through the "Action: Order Hero (1-3) to use Skill (1-8)" option in the Control options panel (Menu > Options > Control).
* Updated the Hero AI for the Dervish Skill, Faithful Intervention.

Open Travel: Territory and District UI Changes

* As a continuation of last year’s “Territory and District UI Changes” that saw language district restrictions removed for America and Europe, we are now removing restrictions on travel to Asian language districts.
* In this update restrictions to Korean language districts will be removed and players of American, European and Korean districts will be able to travel back and forth between these language districts.
* Restrictions on travel to Japanese and Taiwanese language districts will be removed in a subsequent build.

This must by far be one of the most random updates we've had in a while I'm afraid. Magebane shot, Warmongers and VoD are the only ones that will promote anything we like to call "change".

Vengeance got buffed? Time to make a GvG build out of it :-p

Pious Assault buff is interesting, it was definately the least used scythe attack. Might see it poping up more if it werent for the 12 sec recharge, bah

Magebane Shot-dont think this will affect magebane shot rangers a whole lot. Nothing too dramatic here

Warmongers-No maintaining it 100% now. Definitely alleviates alot of headaches

Sundering-Again, interesting this may be a bit more of a viable skill to use now

Being able to hotkey hero skills is handy, but this seems to be a very, very random update as 90% of the skills werent used at all or the change doesnt have enough of an effect on them to make players start/stop using them

Strange, i would have put money on some kind of nerf to R-Spike

warmonger nerfed. good.

magebane nerfed. bad, not using it anymore.

coward buffed and overpowered, nerfed again soon.

YAA buff, usable again (with 33%crip mod)

VoD big change ~~ need to get used to it

vipers defense+heart of shadow buffed, still bad but more fun

hex eater nerfed, unnecesarry....nobody used it anymore anyways

power shot & penetrating attack wtf? i thought they were 1 cast always anyways...but w/e


asia travel...advantages & disatvantages but they getting rid of it anyways it seems? ;s



i rather like to this update alot :O

* Removed all bellybuttons from female characters with bare midriffs.
* The rabbit in Presearing has been replaced by a small llama.

* Added new Norn title skill "Do nothing!" - This skill does nothing.

Necromancer
* Shadow Strike: Changed skill functionality and deion to "Sacrifice 100 health from target foe. If foe is hostile, you steal 100 health from target foe and that foe gains 100 health."

Ranger
* Added another twig to Female Elite Druid's Armor chest piece.
* Added untamable pet mongoose to the Hall of Monuments.

Assassin
* Renamed class to "Uber-Ninja"

IMO they need to fix derv avatars say your running with 14 scythe mastery 10 mysticism and then whatever else the avatars last
Balth-63 seconds
Dwayna-53 Seconds
Grenth-33 Seconds
Lyssa-63 Seconds
Melandru-50 Seconds

with a recharge of 120 seconds you wont be seeing any of these in PvP anytime soon (except the occasional AoM) i understand they are very powerfull and in grenth's case overpowered but there are plenty of ways to fix that. Either make it so both need to loose an enchantment or every attack skill removes an enchantment or something.

I'd just like to see some kind of buff that lets dervs bring more to PvP than a Wounding/Eremites/Mystic spike

I Agree with all of that, but Ur not going to use magebane anymore? It's still a 5 second recharge unblockable Dshot, even if it is 10 energy you still have expertise. To me that update did nothing.

Pious Assault really owns now. Hearth of Holy Flame+ Pious Assault is heavy pressure. I like the Coward and YAA buffs. Magebane will still be useful, although I won't use it anymore. Patient Spirit owns quite hard now. :o

Hotkeys for hero skills?
Herospike anyone?
They should be focussing on getting heroes OUT of PvP. Instead they just buff it :S
That really makes me go QQ.
Of all the GvG's lately atleast 2/5 are heroway, now it's gonna be worse ...

For the skill balance, no comment on that, some are good some are bad. Some aren't even a big deal.
But please, do something about the Iway/Zergway meta. It's ruining all the fun.

About the traveling to Asian servers, and vice versa, I can only say: "Hooray! More spam in Kamadan, LA and KC! And we can't read it..."

They still havent fixed the hourglass's inablilty to change colors according to how yo dye it... it used to accept dye, but the update where they fixed the graphical error the dye went away too... :(

looks to me like they are perhaps buffing around counters instead of nerfing. I'm sure it will have some subtle effect I dont think there will be a sudden rush of necros in pvp but I noticed something.

And I agree with Ulv on the Asian district thing. What did that do for us? Allows asians who can't speak english to come in and flood our chat with their symbol language. *sigh*

Again maybe I am wrong about something, but wasn't this what the international districts were supposed to be for? So that people from different regions could meet up with no problems. It was already almost impossible without the integrating to be able to read anything in the local or trade chats in major towns. Now you can forget it completely.

We could already transfer between the different Eurodistricts already, and did that happen alot?
Only the people who don't have a server for their country or with a low amount of people playing it in their country come to our districts.

Why would asians leave their home districts, which are as I assume, not too barren to leave?!

And like every Englishmen/American spoke proper english.
Perhaps if you negate all the "lol wut?!'...

Coward isn't really overpowered, using it with bull's and shock is pointless--overkill, in fact. You waste so much on utility that you have none left for damage.

Buff-wise it was okay. They might invent a way of using Pious Assault on sword bars since it's a "Melee Attack".You never know, you know.

All the skills seem to be anti-block Meta, although i don't see much of them helping(especially Warrior's Cunning)
Guild Lord priority only occurs if the opposing Guild Lord is within aggro range it seems;easily countered if you are the winning team by VoD.The removed the health reduction..seemingly to pity those teams with 45% DP by VoD. that really kills them off.


Assassin

Trying to get these skills back into play it seems;Scorpion Wire never say much play due to recharge, as the same with Caltrops.A rather uninteresting change, seems to benefit runners some.



Dervish

    * Pious Assault: increased Energy cost to 10; functionality changed to: "You lose 1 Enchantment. If this attack hits, you deal +5..20 damage and inflict a Deep Wound for 5..20 seconds." 
Another Option for DW, IMO, this makes it more powerful than Reaper's Sweep in some instances, as the DW is unconditional, unspammable though it maybe, It's UNCONDITIONAL.

Elementalist

    * Elemental Flame: increased Burning duration to 3..5 seconds.
    * Glyph of Essence: decreased recharge time to 20 seconds.
    * Chilling Winds: increased duration to 30 seconds.
Elemental Flame and Chilling Winds were just buffed to promote them, its like "here, it's more powerful, use it." Still quite useless, although Chilling Winds now serves as a potent cover-hex. Glyph of Essence deserved a buff, the penalty it consisted of was rather punishing already. 

[b]Mesmer


    * Wastrel's Worry: increased damage to 20..80.
    * Mind Wrack: increased duration to 30 seconds.
    * Kitah's Burden/Ethereal Burden: reduced recharge time to 30 seconds.
    * Hex Eater Vortex: decreased damage to 30..90; increased recharge to 15 seconds. 

Again, buffs that say "Use this skill". Nerf to Hex Eater seemed rather uncalled for, since the spell itself doesn't work if the enemy doesn't have hexes.

Monk

Divine Healing might see more PvE play now, although the recharge is still meh.Patient buff makes it like a 2 second delay Heal Other, pre-healing perhaps? Restore/Renew Life and Vengeance buff just says "Please use me" Renew Life might be useful in some weird Me/A Signet of Illusions build, but overall Vengeance is just useless with enchantment removal.

Necromancer

    * Signet of Agony: increased damage to 10..70.
    * Wail of Doom: decreased Energy cost to 10. 
Again, "Please use me"

Paragon

    * Spear of Fury: increased adrenaline gain to 2..6 strikes.
    * "We Shall Return!": decreased Energy cost to 5.
    * "Fall Back!": decreased Energy cost to 10. 
GASP! THEY BUFFED PVE SKILLS OMG?!!?!? Buffs to paragons that might only affect AB's and PvE.

Ranger

    * Power Shot: decreased activation time to 1 second.
    * Precision Shot: decreased activation time to 1 second.
    * Penetrating Attack/Sundering Attack: decreased activation time to 1 second.
    * Magebane Shot: increased Energy cost to 10. 
Good or bad,I have no idea.When i see this, i think "Ranger DPS much?" Magebane nerf is nothing, expertise takes care of that.Other than that, the buff seems to tell people to "use moar damage rangers"

Ritualist

    * Rejuvenation: increased Spirit's level to 1..16.
    * Sight Beyond Sight: increased duration to 12..25 seconds.
    * Sundering Weapon: now affects the next 3 attacks.
    * Warmonger's Weapon: increased recharge time to 30 seconds. 
Meta nerf.SbS is more potent to W/Rt's and Rejuvenation Lasts longer(480 hp @ lvl 16) Sundering Weapon change looks like it's to match Vamp and Splinter Weapon.


Warrior

    * "Coward!": decreased adrenaline cost to 4 strikes.
    * "You're All Alone!": increased duration to 8 seconds. 
Coward may see play(?) YAA is upkeeable once again with a 33% mod,PLZ BUFF HUNDRED BLADEZ
