well i was playing on my warrior and i havent gotten on him much cuz hes got everything and its boring being warrior. as i was farming some guy whispers me and asks me if i can help. i said ok and i gave him like all my farming builds. now he wanted armor like me cuz i got fow. he demanded money so i gave him 2k. after more begging i told him to f*** off and well he got pissed.
he than starting saying crap about me. i than log off, hang out with my girl friend all day and i get back on and it says that ive been banned for 24 hours for an inapropriate name... lol my warrior name was.... dont look at it or you might die..... here it goes......

how long is the ban? is there a way to appeal?
I don't know because I must be lucky and manage to miss all this abuse when in towns.

...I got banned for three days over a literary reference and you got banned for one over something actually offensive. I think I just s**t my pants...

hmm, yea, i don't get the ban name, maybe you really are a whacky person from iraq, they'd never know and i don't find that offensive, but some might... i guess... lol.
in another MMO beta, my friend was perma-banned for the name "Terriaki Paki"
anywho, being name banned is silly, unless it really is outrageous.

Maybe I am the only one who doesn't understand the whole banning thing, but you are banned for 24 hours for your character's name. When that 24 hours is over you will still be able to play that same character thought, right? If this is the case, then what was the point of banning you in the first place. And no I don't believe you should have been banned either for that name. Please let me know if I am wrong about this, but at the moment I just don't get it. Because you told some idiot that you wouldn't give him everything in the whole GW world and he reports your name afterwards you get banned. Anet really needs to investigate these things more.

No, when he next is able to log on, he will be prompted to change the characters name. At least that's how I think it goes. They definitely make you change it though.

Ok, i don't want to get people to think the wrong things, i ain't world peace-loving, but i do understand that perhaps for the few odd people on this planet, that name would be offensive.
Mind you, funnily enough i seen so much worse names and those people have been had them for over 6 months, so i guess it really comes down to who you talk to and such. Cause its obvious they dont seek you out, someone needs to report you.
Although recently especially Alliance Battles have (for my feeling) decreased, there once was a time you where totally the outcast if your name had nothing slightly if not fully offensive in it. Guess that was short lived aswell, though quite funny.

A few things to consider:
Most names offensive to people of another country, gender, people, view-of-life are not considered offensive to/by the person(s) doing the offending. Wacky Iraqi isn't likely to be considered offensive by most Americans. It can however be offensive to people from the group being made fun of. In this case the wacky people and those from Iraq or with ties to people in Iraq that do not involve invading the country twice in the last two decennia.
I'm wacky and I have Iraqi friends, so yes the name does make me sigh a bit. It doesn't give the person using a high class rating with me for sure. Is it something I would report? Nope. It's a childish name. Being childish isn't something I think people should be banned over. Not with the vast majority of the player base technically still a child.
Now, ArenaNet made a 'wise' call at some point to stop looking for offensive names themselves and just let people report them instead. They could crack down on every name that violates the EULA and Code of Conduct, but that'd mean about 40% of currently existing names would have to go as they're all in some minor way in violation. Referencing to real life people or things for instance. Purposely misstyped doesn't exempt one. But it's not what those documents are for, they're the peace-keeper under the bar. Only invoked when needed, and best left unseen most of the time. They're more commonly used to slap you with a ban on something they can pin on you without grounds for appeal when you're actually being slapped for something a bit more vague.
When ArenaNet switched from a pro-active (somewhat) to a fully reactive policy on names is that they have shorter appeal processes. Customer Support is all about cost effectiveness. It has to be, their budget is always the first to be cut upon. So while in the past you could argue that no-one thought your name offensive, now someone reported it as offensive. If it's reported, it must be offensive to someone right? Appeal denied, prefab reply, case closed.
Yes, the glaring big hole in this policy is that if you piss someone off, and kids do that, grown ups too, they will be able to get revenge on you by reporting your name if it's just the slightest bit off. But I'm sure the new policy has lowered the workload for Customer Support. And, it subliminally 'teaches' you not to piss people off as that can get your name revoked.

Alright I am getting up on my soapbox here. I have said all this before so I will keep it short.
I am sick of people running aroung expecting everyone in the world to think of their "feelings" whenever they do something. If we continue to react to the trivial few percent of the population that gets offended by just about everything we will soon have a society that is more concerned about whether something is PC then whether it is actually good for us.
I have said it before so I will say it again.
Lets say I am a die hard vegan and someone has a name like "I eat meat" should I report it. I obviously am offended by that statement, a statement that just screams that you support the senseless slaughter of innocent animals for you personal gratification.
Or wait how about if I am really religious and see the name "god is dead" wel to me he isn't.
GET OVER IT PEOPLE. If you don't like a name don't party with the guy, change districts there are a lot of ways around it. everyone has a different sense of humor, lets not try to make it a society where people area afraid to be funny becuase they might offend someone.

You may not have gathered this from my earlier post, but I actually agree fully with this. Not just for offensive names, but other mildly offensive behavior. If it's not directed at you or anyone directly, just let it be, use the /ignore or go somewhere else. If it is targetted, it's harrasment and that's something else, but if it's just someone being an ass in Global channels, it's best to completely /ignore them.
Reporting at the drop of a hat is in its way also a form of bullying or harrasment, as I already pointed out in my previous post.

the person you have faced is proberly very childish in some way but atleast its only 24 hours but still i would be pissed off if i have been banned for such a name.
i mean i got a character called E N E M Y of god and i never had any form of trouble with people or whatever.
my point i think its very strange anet decided to report you for a name like that i mean did they even looked at the report???
