NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday in a Manhattan apartment in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.
According to the New York Times, Ledger was found naked and unconscious with pills strewn all around him in an apartment owned by actress Mary-Kate Olsen. Police sources told the Times that the death appeared to be a suicide.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the apartment. The housekeeper, who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, found him unconscious at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET, according to the New York Times. After receiving no response from the actor after shaking him, they called authorities.
The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for “Brokeback Mountain,” where he met actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn with their 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year.
Ledger was to appear as the Joker this year in “The Dark Knight,” a sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins.” He’s had starring roles in “A Knight’s Tale” and “The Patriot,” and played the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in “Monster’s Ball.”
This is a sad loss to Hollywood. He was a very talented actor.

Didn't know the guy by name, but i did a wiki browse and yeah, sad loss.
Stars always seem to die with drugs related to their death's, not just suicide, even random things always seem to have drugs involved one way or another.
It also said Dark Knight is now in post-production, could that mean that movie will still be released? Would be awkward to see a guy in a movie in which he died a month later or so.

At least they know how he died...

The Dark Knight should still be released. They released John Candy's Wagons East, after his death. And he died during filming of it.

Just saw on another site that he had apparently finished all his post-production on The Dark Knight, as he was moving on to another movie.
Horrible news, and quite shocking.

thats sad, i really liked him. but they didn't mention 10 Things I Hate About You in his repitoire of movies. thats like, my favorite movie of his, besides the patriot.
RIP
And in response to whoever said the Dark Night thing, that would be kinda akward seeing a movie with a stiff with an acting part.

Dark Knight is still being released, the producers would lose a ton of cash.

This may sound bad, but it is how I view things in this world....
If it was an accidental overdose, whether it was perion or drug abuse then RIP. Drug addiction is a disease. It is the fault of the person for getting started but non the less, it is a horrible addiction. He was a good actor.
If it was suicide, I have no sympathy for people who do that. Sorry, it is just the way I feel about it. Suicide to me is the ultimate self pity party with no consideration for how it will effect the people that love that person.

Whoa!
Not the person I'd pick for this happening to. A handful of female starlets and heiresses yes, not Heath.
From every interview in "making off"s I saw (and I watch those) on any of his movies, he always managed to come across as very well grounded. Not letting fame and fortune getting to him, staying down to Earth and all that.
A shame to, he made some great movies better. 10 Things was brilliant, KNight's Tale a hoot!
Wonder if they'll pull a Brandon Lee / The Crow on the movie.
Please remember that movie, don't make me feel old.

Well, considering so many stars have a ''secret'' drug use, though not all are addicted, many appear to use it.
Even though the fame didn't rise to his head, i guess he used drugs to ''chill out''. Its known that stars have quite a stressy life, so no surprise they start using things to feel more relaxed and just forget about the fast moving world around.
It could've been a suicide, but could've been an overdose aswell, if so, either he got into drugs fast and used overly much, or he been using it before and while perhaps already tripping away, took some more and then it just goes out of hand.
Suicide for this guy, seems really unexpected, perhaps a bit too, and murder, doubt it.
But suicide sounds just awkward, unless anyone here knew if he had extreme problems before this, but i havent seen him on the newspaper as the latest star send to Rehab, or bad tabloid scandals etc. etc.

Does it make me a terrible person that I don't really care that much? I mean if he commted suicide he doesn't deserve a lick of pity. If he accidentally overdosed...which is unlikely I never watched his movies so meh.
So yea.

More likely then you think, if you drink alcohol, ever thrown up? That's because you been drinking too much.
With drugs when you use too much, you get it alot more serious then just throwing up, but its still the same thing, just as you can ''overdose'' yourself on Alcohol, you can with drugs.
So yeah, like some people want to take that last shot of Whiskey just because they *feel* the alcohol isnt kicking in totally yet, same goes for Drugs, he might aswell just felt he needed a bit more, and bam, overdose.
Its easier then you think.
Also, No, i don't really care about the guy much, i mean, he has starred in great movies yeah, but i dont even know the guys name until now.
RIP indeed, but my world wont stop turning though.

Here is what I often wonder when you hear about this stuff...
Why don't these actors/actresses come under the same scrutiny that athletes do when it comes to drug use. I mean they are all "entertainers" and they are all "public figures". Shouldnt they be held to the same standards? Where are the congressional hearings when one of these Hollywooders OD's or gets busted in some way relating to drugs?
Just a thought...feel free to discuss the pros and cons of this.

Because in sports drugs usually means steroids and that means the guy is cheating. Since he gets paid hue amounts of money...well yea he's gonna get some crap for it.
An actor isn't doing anything but screwing his or her own life with drugs. they aren't getting ahead in the acting world at all.

I think a large part of the answer to that question is that when an actor OD's on drugs, only his reputation, career* and life are shot (in that order), whereas if a prize athlete OD's more reputations are at stake.
Corporate sponsors, the team he/she may have been part of, e.t.c. Given the expansive statistics tracking US sports engenders (seriously, you are a bit nutty in that respect) a whole season in a league may stand in doubt from such an event.
Whereas an ODing actor's performance in his last title isn't affected, except to maybe lend an extra layer of creepiness to that last title if it's a thriller.
* Personal assistants may have to do some fancy work to their resume for their next job-interview though.

I was really shocked to hear about this. He is the same age as my brother, and i would be gutted if he died. He just seemed so young to die, though as it was said before so are many others.
I do not like the whole suicide thing, but when people do it, it's when they are weak and depressed...
It said on the news that he had recently split with his GF and that he didn't really like playing the joker. It also said he was taking 'background sleeping tablets' on the 1 news thing i saw, and that jack nicholson had warned him about them...
I dunno, it could be either thing, but i still feel sorry for him and hope he R.I.P, because either way...he either died because he O.D'd accidentally, or because he was severly depressed, noone should have to cope with that!

Death's a bitch. :/
Though getting OD'ed eats away some of my sympathy. Being a junkie just shows the weakness of mind aswell as the loss of a spine.
But a junkie or not, the loss of a life is still nog a positive thing.

I think it is wierd that the housekeeper changed a bulb in the middle of the day and he was asleep and then the masseuse came in and called someone on his cellphone instead of using her own. I would have used my own phone. And she had one cause when the knocking on the door didn't get a response, she called him. But all that aside, I think it was an accidental overdose...mixing pills that shouldn't have been mixed, or at least I hope it was. And besides losing a wonderful actor, and yes this is the mom coming out in me...keep in mind he is leaving behind a 2 year old daughter he adored that won't get to know her dad or be raised by him any longer. I think that is the part that really gets my heart strings.
Edit: Post Production generally means they are adding the music and editing. Only need actors if the the Director doesn't like how a scene is working out and wants to redo it. The movie comes out June 14th I think, so it should be fairly close to done.
