CD Cleaning

Hello, my sister and i constantly share our dvd/video game collections. The only problem being she has three kids(7, 5, 4) and are all big into watching movies. This leads to alot of my movies(hers too) being scratched or smudged. I was wondering if any of you knew any home remedies for cleaning cd's beyond a disc doctor(i dont have the money to buy one atm) and for future reference. If any of you have/use disc doctors, and what brand seems to work best. Thanks for your help

RE: CD Cleaning

well, here in Belgium there's a shop and everything that you buy there (games, DVD's,...) has a free-repair warranty
(when the disc is scratched)
But you haven't got anything with that, do you?
Sorry mate :s

RE: CD Cleaning

im not joking here but 'the best' thing for cleaning light and deep scratches is brasso! its a metal polish but use it on your disc and it fills all scratch etc :)

example: my girlfriend kicked over my xbox 360 with gears od war in it! oh no! i tried everything to get it to work but the scratch was way to thick and deep, then i spoke to my dad and he said put some brasso on it, so i did. Covered the whole disc in the stuff and let it go cloudy then wipe it off with a good lint free cloth and boom! has worked perfectly for months ^^

may sound silly to use metal polish but it works ^^

RE: CD Cleaning

I've seen a trick where you rub some toothpaste on there, it fills up the scratchess repairing your disc. Dunno if will help you in any way and I don't know if it's true.

Ok here's the real one xD

Good luck with it (I'd try the toothpase option last if I were you hehe)

RE: CD Cleaning

For scratches I use Windex or toothpaste for deep scratches.
for everything else I use a microfiber cloth (for my glasses) to get discs clean

RE: CD Cleaning

Regarding the toothpaste trick:
It's sometimes used to reduce scratches on screens of iPod (and similar MP3/video players). Basically it creates lots of small scratches to even out the bigger ones, kind of rough polishing. Be careful if you use one of those "whitening formula" paste types, they have tougher abrasive components.
