Thrash, Black or Death metal normally.
Also listen to some rock and other stuff though.
A few example bands are: Evile, Kreator, Soulfly, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Behemoth, Children of Bodom, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Damageplan, White Stripes, Paramore, Placebo.
BTW, anyone going to the Behemoth gig in sheffield on the 5th of feb?

This is one of the better way I've seen someone start a conversation over music, +cred for that.
For myself I don't listen all too much metal, I guess I'm a softie (Rock, punk and blues, that's my style). ^_^ It's mostly Dream Theater and Metallica, but I'm inclined to try out something that sounds like the 2 aforementioned if anyone can guide me that way. Suggestions please? =)

GTFO Belsh! xD
Paramore is punk, but I can agree on Punk/Pop, they are a sort of clichčd sub-genre.
White Stripes however is alternative, and probably as good as you'll ever get in that genre. There's a reason Jack White is ranked as one of the top 10 guitar players in the world (alive, that is), just try to listen to songs like Icky Thump and you'll realize why. White Stripes are full of win.

They are pop rock. And you had a giant list so I figured you were just listing metal bands.
Also I am not saying either is bad but they are both pop. They both get an INCREDIBLE amount of playtime and they both are known by pretty much anyone in touch with pop culture.

Usually, I don't like to give credit to Swedes, but I have to admit they do make great metal music. In Flames, Dark Tranquility, for example.
I'm mostly into Power and Death metal.

Same with Linkin Park and Evanescence. Being popular doesnt necessarily mean they are "pop" even though thats where the term originated. Its pretty much its own defined genre now.
