| Dark Armor vs. Energy Aura |
|
|
|
Ok, I know quite a bit about the sets, their weaknesses and strengths. I know I need KB protection for Dark, but I can grab a steadfast prot and be fine with that pretty early on. I know Dark is pretty AoE heavy, with Cloak of Fear, Oppressive Gloom, and Death Shroud causing lots of damage/mitigation. What it lacks, however, is endurance recovery. This is what is making me wonder about Energy Aura. (I know Elec Armor is better in theory, but I an electric brute and really don't want to revisit the set just yet.) EA has Conserve Power and Energy Drain to handle all my endurance needs, but it lacks any form of AoE mitigation, relying solely on its somewhat limited Defense to mitigate incoming damage.
What I want is an AoE heavy brute. That's why I chose Electric Melee. It has a wide variety of melee cones and PBAoEs to make life fun and interesting. The problem is, it'll be endurance heavy. I don't want to add Dark Armor in as well, because that set is rather End Heavy, mainly because of Dark Regeneration. At the same time, I want to have it's great AoE abilities to stack with Electric Melee's AoEs and just be a walking buzzsaw.
Can anyone help me swing the decision one way or another? Great AoE mitigation vs. great Endurance management!
Thanks in advance,
W.P.

how about /fire?? it has great AoE and it has a endurance recovery power in the mid 30s. plus self rez and a heal.
but be warned, it is kinda lacking in the defence department. the key to is to kill as quickly as possible.
Elec/fire is great for farming too (with support).
good luck and let me know how it goes if/when you try it out.......

You can't attack when you don't have any endurance :o
And /Dark sure is an endurance hog.
Go /Energy! Energy Drain is wicked.

Jesus, I'm looking at basic end costs of the toggles and EA is more expensive than DA! It may have the end recovery, but I don't want to have to spam it! I'm really leaning towards DA, as it looks to have better protection and better end costs, not counting Dark Regen. Man, its so tough to decide!

I'd say go for Dark Armor. It may have 2 high cost AoEs and an expensive self heal, but with good mob size, its nearly impossible to kill. EA is good for 1 vs 1 fights, but DA can just keep going in a crowd.
-I tried CoF and never liked it enough to keep it, respeced out of it for Hasten, DM being primary. 2 endurance reduction SOs in Dark Regen and its not *too* bad.
-Death Shroud is nice for making things mad at you and keeping them close for optimizing your AOE's.
-As far as Oppressive Gloom goes, haven't tried it yet, but if it as good or better than Inky Aspect on a WS, then that will be great mitigation once I get it.
Getting back to EA, PvE wise its not too bad, but I never felt tough enough to really be *Tanky* with it, and don't get me started with PvP /em cry
So, my vote, Dark Armor, good resists, *Great Heal*, nice mitigation later in the set with OG and CoF if you can slot it up enough, but didn't feel worth it for all the slots it would take away from other powers that need them more.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Titan-Man! (bold-lightning, i mean =D)
Yeah, thats the way I was leaning. Left CoF out of the build, endurance seems alright, especially once I work in some rather cheap to make set bonuses.
Thanks again for your input, brother!

I would say DA over EA becuase EA gets slaughtered quite a bit outside of its tier 9, but if you want a good AoE build for farming and such i would go with a Fire/Fire with fighting and some defense Set bonus's or what i've seen work wonders for AoE is a fire or elec/invul or WP brute. I'ld suggest WP though if your going to be End heavy becuase of its second staminia ability, and RttC which is dependant on being surrounded by a mob to work to full capacity as well as having some nice defences and resistances.

My first char is a stone/ea brute, I've always hunted in teams and for a long while I was the only tank for the team. I loved the EA abilities, it might be endurance heavy early on, but after you pick up stamina and pop in a end reduction on a few of your shields you don't notice it. The only problem I've found in the set was the sheer weakness to psionic attacks but a few io sets here and there make up for it. I currently have all the EA shields active and don't have to spam energy drain all too often, and I dropped conserve power after getting overload because endurance mod given by that power.
