One on one there's a good chance you won't be able to take a decent brute down without debuffs. Scrappers and brutes are pretty equal imo in PvP. The only way my ice tank can beat brutes is keep letting them attack until their endurance gets below half, then zap them with energy absorption and suck the rest of their endurance so their shields drop.

RE: Scrapper vs Brute

Brutes are certainly the culmination of the villian archetypes in my opinion, even without their inherent rage they can do a number on many a hero. Scrappers will have a difficult time with brutes as they have no real means of mitigation except dmg. Just as Big was saying, you really need to subvert their defenses to beat them and that can be very difficult. One vs. one? Don't waste your time... if their experienced and built for PvP you'd be unlikely to take them down.

Brutes can be rather easy to take down, if you know the sets they have pretty well. Also, don't just stand there and fight them, as you'll just help them build Fury. Joust em, getting your damage in while avoiding as much of their damage as possible. My Spine/Regen has shown many a brute why they're inferior to scrappers. =D

RE: Scrapper vs Brute

I would say it all comes down to how well you build your character. I have to agree they seem more equal one on one but through experience it can go either way.

First time in pvp ever was Sirens with a dark/stone brute. I was looking round when 2 spine regen scrappers jumped him. I will say it was a long battle and for some strange reason one of them stopped to rest behind me (yes he actually knelt down, not sure why maybe he too was new to all this), needless to say I soul drained and shadow mauled him doing horrendous damage and defeating him before continuing on with his mate.

And yet in a different encounter with the same brute and a katana/SR scrapper he was cut down in quick time cause i missed more than i hit.

So in all its how you choose to play and what you use.
