Clues are just there as parts of small stories or hints to some of Paragon City's history, adds to the roleplaying, etc.

For those that aren't just clicking the missions and completing them without really looking at the story, it is a way to enhance the feel of being a hero in the game.
If you take the time to read the text when talking with your contacts and looking at the clues throughout the missions, there are some great stories that really give you that comic book hero feel. I really enjoyed running the Positron Task Force and taking the time to read all the clues and discussion with Positron. If you are running with a team and you aren't the leader, I am not sure how easy this is. Normally, task force teams are moving as fast as possible from one mission to the next so they can complete it within a reasonable time.
When I did the Positron Task Force solo, I took the time to read everything and it was a really interesting story.
Now, I just ran the Sister Psyche Task Force with Jordan_Yen on Saturday morning and I didn't read anything. Roleplay/ comic book hero view... I have no clue why we did all the missions we did.
That TF took about 3 to 3 1/2 hours to run with 5 on the team.
