Help needed for UW runs

Hi everyone!

As the title states, I am looking for help concerning UW solo runs.
I am currently running the E/Me Terra Tank build.

The concept of the build is clear to me. The problem is I cannot get it to work.

I do all the steps that the guide says, I do everything as suggested and as seen on video materials, I have the same stats, skills, items, armor, runes, insignias, even the same dyes... and yet I cannot get past the Grasping Darknesses. They keep interrupting me and I die without managing to cast a single offensive spell.

After I get the quest I move closer to the stairs without aggroing nothing. I cast Mantra of Earth, Stone Striker and Storm Djinn's Haste. Then I press R to run toward the Graspings. Just before I aggro them I cast Stoneflesh Aura. Then I aggro them, quickly press X and run back to lose the Aatxes. The Graspings follow. No problems with that part.

Now, as in the guide, I wait until they waste their Distracting Blows. I count the "click" sounds of interrupting, I fall down and get up really quick. Then I cast Ancestor's Visage. Then, as suggested in the guide, I wait 5 seconds, even 6. By that time Ancestor's Visage should've drained all of their adrenaline and energy, so they would be unable to interrupt or Daze me.

And that's where my nightmare begins. I try to recast Stoneflesh Aura. They just keep interrupting me as if they are with full energy pool and adrenaline. I cannot even cast Stone Striker, 1/4 of a second! I can't cast anything AT ALL! Not one of my 8 skills on the bar! There are three Graspings, they use their Blows and immediately after that are again interrupting me.

I am doing something wrong here, but I cannot seem to get it.

Please advise.

Wow that's really odd =S
I've never been in the UW with a terra tank so I'm not sure what you did wrong. Are you sure your AV didn't got rended by a dying nightmare?
Everything you do seems ok.. you also see all the -3 nrg's in your screen? It has to be since you're the only foe in there..

Meh thought a little more and really can't see what you did wrong =\ Good luck with finding someone who knows!

dont wait the 4-6 seconds after casting AV.

The skill only last 8 seconds. As soon as you have cast it the graspings should lose all their adrenaline, so you shouldnt have to wait to start damage dealing.

When i do the run i usually i get to the stage where i have lured all the graspings, counted all the interrupt attacks for relevant amount of foes then cast AV.

Once this is done i wait about 1 second, then cast sandstorm, then stone flesh aura, then dragons stomp, then aftershock. that should always kill them.

The thing with the terra tank build is that its all about speed and good timing. Its the quickest way to farm uw, but you need to be able to cast at the right time.

AV has a recharge of 20 seconds, so waiting 6 seconds to start damage dealing is no good. as soon as AV runs out, the graspings start building up adrenaline quickly. All you have to do is kill them before they get the chance to kill you.

So yeah, as soon as you have cast AV, waste no time in waiting to start casting again, get in quick, out quicker :)

any problems pm in game Stan Zhao, i'd be happy to go through a run with you if your still having trouble

after reading the wiki guide, i find it a little strange that it tells you to wait 5 seconds :\ ...

As i said above, try casting sandstorm first, then cast stoneflesh again, followed by dragon stomp, then aftershock, you should easily be able to cast these without losing aggro.

There isn't any Nightmares around when I fight the Graspings. If I accidentally popped a Nightmare while getting the quest or approaching the stairs I always turn around and wait for an opportunity to kill it, before I try anything else. I know they are deadly if they strip me around Aatxes or Graspings.
All the numbers are as they should be.

I think you nailed my problem. As I look now closer at the Visage's descripion I see that as soon as it hits it drains ALL of their adrenaline. At first I thought that it works like with the energy, a small chunk after another. That's why, I thought, the guide advises to wait 5 seconds, to slowly drain the adr.

So as soon as it hits, it keeps them with no adrenaline until it ends, right? That gives me 8 seconds to cast the offensive spells. Got it.

I would more than likely want to help out, I'm actually writing a guide about it right now. ^_^

It would be good if I could have someone who haven't mastered it yet to read it and look for pros and cons, etc

Hmm it's odd that you can cast right away.. It drains 3 nrg at a time, so they shouldn't be at 0 nrg after 1 second =S
Or is this one of Anet's vague skill deions?

They use Disrupting Chop as far as I know, which is adrenaline based.

So when AV hits, it drains all of their adrenaline and they are unable to interrupt

Not completely true, they do in fact use Distracting Blow. The idea is to let them spend it, and then to cast SV/AV to prevent them from gaining energy for another interrupt. Problem is, you have to do it within a certain time limit (casting SV/AV), you can't let them build up adrenaline as that will make them use Skull Crack. So timing AV/SV is pretty much essential for your farm to succeed.

Honestly if you arent too experienced with UW Farming then id suggest running the W/Rt VwK Build, its FAR less fragile than the other uw solos out there. While it does take a bit longer to get through the run, id rather my run take 5-10 minutes longer and be sure i live than get halfway through the run and get boned by a dying nightmare.

I cant help much with the terra tank build as i have never used it myself, but if you decide to go w/rt i can give you the variant i use and show you how i go about my runs, pm me in game

Ah couldn't remember the skill name, but Wyat posted it. But I see your point now. Wait for them to use it, but don't wait till they got enuf adrenaline =D More complicated build than you think ^^

I think normal mode since Ecto's aren't affected by NM/HM. They drop at same rate (I use normal more when I do VwK)

ya, but there are nice drops in HM.

i have a 55 n/mo build that supposedly works in HM and can kill aatxes and coldfire nights, but smite hex is a pain in the *kitten*

Hello again, guys

Last night, after following the advices I got from you all, I was able to actually see a Smite Crawler :)

I managed to kill the Graspings, then when I tried to get into the tunnel, I got bodyblocked (rubberbanded) by the two Aatxes on top of the right stairs. Died within a blink.

The next run I got owned by the Graspings again... :)

The third attempt was the most successful. I killed the Graspings, successfully ran around the Aatxes and got to the Smite Crawler area. I killed four or five groups of them. Then, by misjudging the patrol route of a couple of Coldfire Nights I aggroed them while I was in the middle of two groups of Smites at once. Couldn't do anything but watch as I die.

Although I didn't get an Ecto or a gold item, I am happy. Yay!

My first ever attempt was a disaster. The next 10 or so were a disaster. But I see I am slowly getting the run and will continue trying until I get it right.

Terratank is all about timing. Great to hear that you're getting it down. I was lucky enough to manage my first terratank attempts during the free UW/FoW weekend and got the mechanics down in about 5-6 tries.

Have you considered farming bosses in HM with an EA build? They have a chance at dropping Passage to the UW scrolls which can help with the UW fees...

The run can be quite costly but with dedication and patience, can be quite rewarding over time. Nothing beats the feeling of farming your first Ecto!. Just keep at it and good luck!

Thanks, I will try until I get it right. I don't mind the fees though, ingame gold is so easy to make. If I am so poor that I don't have a single plat to pay, I will alternate between UW and Stone Elementals Hard Mode. Even the crappiest run of them is still around 1k or so.

Or make some FoW runs with my W/Me.

I promise I won't put a silly screenshot saying "Yay my first Ecto!" :)

As for farming bosses with E/A, I still don't have the Assassin skills needed.
One way is to do some Arenas, use the faction points to unlock Assassin skills, then buy tomes. I will certainly think about it and do some research.

But I still want to nail that UW run down before I attempt to nail another one :)

Congratz! It's a good feeling to get that run down... and a good way to work towards Fissure armour or bolstering your gold supply.

Once you've mastered it, have a look at this guide, grab a friend or two and considered clearing the UW.

I've found that once you get the general Terra Tank build down, you'll find you'll use it in many other applications... DoA, HM Missions in GWEN, farming other spots. It's a good general Ele skill to have under your belt!
