Ok, so the other day I was in ratchet, and I hopped on the boat just to see where it went. So I was waiting for the boat to come, and all of the sudden this draenei priest came out of nowhere. I waved to him, because he was a much higher level then me, and I didn't want to get killed. But then, when the boat arrived, he mind controlled me and ran me off of the boat. The boat left, and I had to wait a while for the next one.
is there anything that i can do about that kind of thing? like to stop getting mind controlled?

Isn't ratchet located in the barrens tho. in other words thats horde territory so unless u were set to pvp, he couldnt attack u. try right clicking ur portrait and disable pvp.

I'm not 100% on the contended zones on the PvP servers but I believe since Ratchet is neutral, this would be contended area.
If you aren't on a PvP server then turn off your PvP flag or stay hidden till it clears before going to open areas. Luckily when I accidentally flag myself I have a flying mount(Outland only) so I just get some decent altitude and go get a soda.

Since we hit the topic of killing NPCs just last week or so when all of the instance servers crashed we actually put together a 40 man raid on Undercity.
I had never done an open world raid like that and the lag was insanely bad. Out of 40 folks I managed to get #9 in DPS for the raid. But the AoE casters had an obvious advantage. I just followed the main group as best I could and put Seed of Corruption on everything I could target.
I can't remember what our overall target was. I think we took out either their Bank tellers or their Actioneers.
In the end the world servers started locking up and everybody went down. At one point I rezzed in UC and spent the next 30 minutes running away from Horde all by my lonesome. I think I was dead 10 minutes before I actually knew it. The rubber banding and lag was so bad that I couldn't target anything.
Laggy.... yes. Fun... hell yeah!

PvP server doesnt mean u can get killed any second. u r only forced to set to pvp when in Contested territories. in horde territories such as barrens, it plays the same rules as normal servers EXCEPT all alliance r forced to go pvp in horde territories. I remember i had to run my lil gnomey bottom when i was in barrens so i wudnt get pwned.

Depends, the server i was playing on was 75% horde, 25% alliance. Imagine how fun it is to be killed by 3 guys, when try to do a quest then have them corpse camp. 6/7 days wud be like that. =.=

Darkspear is fairly even, from what I've seen.
But the problem is Horde is more inclined to PvP than the Alliance. 3 out of 4 ABs Horde win.
And it seems like every single horde that is close enough to my level to compete 1v1 has a ?? escort... The worst is when that escort is a Rogue or Druid (stealth) or Mage (Invisible).
Plus, as much as I love Scarlet Monastery, about 50% of the groups I'm in for it dissolve because 60-70 lvl horde camp it.

earthen ring has become fairly even now as well though the horde on our server have become less desirable than previously thought due to the influx of dumbasses and podcast fans in alea icta est.

There are things like trinkets and such that my PvP friends use that can be used to negate those kinds of effects. I'm not so savy on the Hunter skills that may help you. But those trinkets and such come at a much higher level than you currently are.
Unfortunately on a PvP server, as a level 18, you are everybody's plaything.
