Martial artists that use other styles? Secondary pools?

Here’s messing with a couple of ideas. What if you start taking combat skills from other pools beyond MA?
Air Superiority from Flight?
Jump Kick from Leaping?
Flurry from Speed?

Not to mention Punch and Kick from fighting.
Is this even worth considering?

RE: Martial artists that use other styles? Secondary pools?

I got Jump Kick for my MA Stalker, in place of Thunder Kick. It had better damage and recharge speed, so "Migth as well."

But it was really just a waste of endurance. I haven't quite figured out why yet, but I guess the rest of the MA powers are as tough on the end as Nin.
I respecced and got Hasten instead, because instead of a 'filler kick', then why not just make all of the other kicks faster?

But either turned out to be a endurance-sucking failure, if you're not careful with spamming your attacks. I guess Combat Jumping will have to go. Ninjas jump any way, not run with three hundred mph

RE: Martial artists that use other styles? Secondary pools?

As a MA/Regen scrapper, I can certainly vouch for Air superiority in a chain with the rest of MA's attacks. It fits right in, has almost 100% knockdown, and does decent dmg when slotted as well. Endurance isn't really an issue with stamina+quick recovery, but I don't believe its as heavy as jump kick or flurry (two powers I've found completely useless). My attack chain at lvl 50 goes:
Build up, Storm Kick, Crane Kick (minion dead), Eagles Claw, Dragons Tail, Crippling axe kick (Lt. Dead) and then Air superiority to knock down another foe and Eagles claw again (as I have slotted crushing impact, and thus have a recharge boost). Rinse reuse repeat. I always have an attack available and with MA's mixed use of mezzes and knockbacks, you can mini-control a decent sized group while slaughtering the rest in a rather quick fashion.

Air superiority is definately a good one. The -fly and the high chance for knock down are key if your playing a squishy. Since this is available early on, you can get an attack chain going pretty quickly.

I have also tried Punch & Flurry. Damage on Punch wasnt all that great. Same problem with Flurry. Plus the flurry animation is too long IMO.

That's exactly what I do with my MR/SR Scrapper named Attackbug on Union (EU).
The basicattackchain is Jumpkick-Thunderkick-Flurry.
Low end use and the attacks recharge fast enough to be repeated over and over again.
Of course it is no big burst damage, but it workes pretty well for me.
I only picked Dragons Tail and Eagle Kick later and use it after every other Jumpkick.
Looks pretty fancy in a spidermanesque way.

RE: Martial artists that use other styles? Secondary pools?

I made some distinctive unarmed martial artists despite the limitations of the powersets:

HAN DO RHEE (Virtue LV19) is a MA/SR scrapper: a Taekwon-Do stylist having all the kicks in the game (meaning the MA set + jump kick and kick from power pool).

POWER HAND (Pinnacle Lv 8) is a MA/SR also; a Kung Fu expert with Storm kick, Sands of Mu (veteran reward), Cobra Strike, jump kick and boxing (power pool)and who will get weapon mastery ancillairy power eventually.

MASTER BLOCK (Virtue Lv 13) is a Inv/SS tanker with kick and jumping kick added to the punches of the set, making him like the classical Karate master of early 20th Century.

RING BELLE (Guardian lv 34) also Inv/SS tanker but with air superiority and boxing added to the set attacks with Sands of Mu to make her a true boxing babe.

As weapon styles go, I tried some distinctiveness there too, most notably:

EVER KNIGHT (Justice Lv 23) a DA/BS scrapper using not only the broadsword and throwing knives (natural origin) but also a 2 handed axe (Ghostslaying Axe veteran reward)as proper to a medieval defender of truth and justice.

MAIDEN OF IRON (Fredom Lv 8) a Inv/BA tanker, inspired by the iron maiden instrument of torture, using all types of axes in the game as the magical summoned executionner of Justice.

GODDESS OF PAIN (Infinity Lv 4) a DB/DA scrapper, the avatar of the Finnish goddess of pleasure and pain loviatar, using 2 golden kopesh to bleed open the guilty and drink the darkness in their blood.

And I'm working on some other ideas...

Can you spell A-L-T-O-H-O-L-I-C ? LOL[/I]
