The Art of Flaming

The Art of Flaming

This guide is designed to teach you how to troll and flame efficiently. This ancient art must be used sparingly, for it can cause chaos to become unleashed.

First of all, you must have a specific goal in mind. Be it drawing attention to something, causing e-drama, or whatever other reason you can think of. Do not flame or troll with no aim as this makes you a crap troll.

Secondly, pick your victim. Whilst it can be fun to mentally crush somebody whose intelligence is far beneath yours, it becomes like smoking 1 joint for a hardened addict - it won't satisfy you enough.

Next, research your victim. If you are drawing attention to the way they post, look at previous posts of theirs. Check their profile for clues as to the sort of person they are. Check what their friends are like. Try to find out if they have any other accounts.

Once you have gathered your information, use it. Quotes are good. Especially if you can quote what other people have said and think about that person. The more people you can draw into it, the better. The more people attacking or defending the person, the better the e-drama that will unfold.

Play up to what mildly annoys the person. Get them agitated. This is when you can really start going. Once they start getting pissed off with you, you can start retaliating.

Baiting is a great tactic. If your victim hates getting -cred, if they're not already, get somebody you know to give them -cred. When they say something about it, you can exaggerate what they said and the sensationalism within people will make them jump on either you, or the other person. Either way is good. The more people that join in, the more people that will join in a second wave to counteract what is being said.

Try not to use personal insults until you really have them going. These tend to get laughed off except by people who are pissed off or emo. If they insult you personally, you can do it back, and the seasoned troll you are, you will clearly be better at it than they are.

Aside from having an aim, to be a good troll, you need to believe that you are better than the person you are flaming. Of course, this is easy for me, as I'm clearly the best player in the gameamp community ;-).

Use humour. If you go full out with no jokiness, you'll be banned straight away, which is a bit of an anti-climax really, so be funny. Also, the more you use humour, the more people will be unsure whether you really mean what you say. Mystery is great at keeping mods off your back, as well as drawing in people who take it literally. With humour, you can say way more than you would be able to say otherwise.

Be intelligent. Spell properly. Use grammar as well as you can. Nobody will take you seriously if they can't read what you are writing. Don't use annoying typing habits such as 1337-5P34K or ALL CAPS or Book Title Typing. They just make you look stupid. You're meant to make the other person look stupid, not yourself.

Now, get out there and flame some people. Noobs.

Who said I was being funny?

Most of the trolls on these forums suck. Quite frankly, they need to do better.

see, this is what i call beyond fail. making a topic that is going to get some sort of flaming started and inevitably locked.

and you have a core group of people saying how this is 'epic awsome'. I see nothing awsome about this, it is also 'bait' as Meg descibed it. For me its bait to show how much douchness people can be.

i know all this 'niche' group will be saying, 'lol, the thread got locked straight away', such as hacking hippie has said, not in the same way, but the intent of what he was saying was there. i relly dont see the point, its like probing everyone so there will be some massive revolution where everyone will be flushed away in a massive flame war.

in my opinion, anyone who thinks this is 'awsome' or 'epic', is literally kissing ass. if you can justify why this awsome i'm willing to listen, if not, your just another person is hoping to jump on that bandwagon.

I don't really see any use in this thread, nor do I see any good coming from it. This is a Gaming Network site and this is a Gaming Community. If you wish to "flame" and pick fights, then do so somewhere else. I will not see it here.
