LF People who love Maths!

Hey u guys

Y, vacation is done, and i still need to make my homeworks, pretty sucks, but y.

I opened my math book cus i had to make an exercise. Only theres one Huge problem, i don't get it. I was thinking and thinking but nothing. I was wondering, if maybe some of u guys could help me, tell me how u start on it, and how u get it.

This is how the exercise looks like:

Stipulate the number of sides of a convex polygon of which the sum of the angles is equal to 28 straight angles.

y...tell me what, i don't get it either :P

i hope any of u guys could help, i would be pleased :-)

sum of the angles= 28*90°=2520°
the sum of the angles of a polygon with n-sides=(n-2)*180°
so: 2520°=(n-2)*180°

Now you just need to work this out, i think it's better if you do that yourself. I don't wanna do all your homework for you.

I hope this helped.

RE: LF People who love Maths!

Yes, they're both correct.
If you wanna use Jdun's formula remember that the sum of the angles in the middle is always 360°
Just try to work it out. It's just an equation from now on.

RE: LF People who love Maths!

so i used the first formule, and i had:

28x90°= 2520°

2520°=(n-2) x180°
2520°='14-2) x180°
2520=12X180°

aaagh!!i don't get it :(

edit

how do i knowx how many trangles fit in the polygon?

is it: 2520:180?

is 12 the correct answer?

RE: LF People who love Maths!

You're going to fast.

you have to move all numbers to one side and leave n on the other one.

You begin with
2520°=(n-2)x180°

now move 180° from the rigth side to the left one. To do that you have to divide bothe sides with 180°

2520°=(n-2) x (180°/180°)
180°

(You can leave out the (180°/180°), it's just 1)
After this you move the 2. So this makes

(2520°)+2=n-2+2
180°

The conclusion is

(2520°)+2=n
180°

I hope you understand it now. Sorry that I didn't calculate it all for you but I think you will understand it better if you do that yourself.

Lol what are you doing in that equation? It should be like (n-2)*180=180n-360 etc. You for some reason thought n=14?

No, you made a small mistake

2520+2=N
180

14+2=N

16=N

You subtracted 2 instead of adding it.

RE: LF People who love Maths!

ow, y now i c it, thx alot for ur hel^p ;D

So i written down on my paper:

25X 90°=2520°

2520°= (n-2) x 180°

2520°= N-2
_____
180

2520°+2= n
_____
180

N=16

The polygron has 16 sides

right? :)

Isn't it 28X 90°=2520°?

Other than that everything is correct.
I hope you understand everything. Next time don't wait till the last day to make your homework.
Have fun tomorow. =p
