ok, so i feel like a total noob for asking this, but how do you talk in general chat/trade chat etc.?
I've never really needed to, but i'm curious how you do it. haha, thanks in advance

general is usually /1, trade is /2 as far as I can remember?O.o
just type the number of the channel that you want to talk to in the chat box. like /1 peekaboo (saying peekaboo in general chat)
You can see the number of each channel everytime you enter a zone. They show up in the chat box

I find that the trade channel is usually reserved for political debates, love sick Murlocks and stories of Chuck Norris's greatness.
(You know, Chuck Norris's tears cure cancer...... too bad he doesn't cry.)
Some days are worse than others. But most aren't. I set up custom tabs for Guild/PM/Raid to filter out a lot of the trash talkin. I still leave the original tab alone with everything in it for those times I need to actually use the trade channel to find a crafter.
In time you get most of your benificial crafters and such on your friends list so the need for it gets less and less. But sometimes my tailoring crew isn't on or is out of Primal Nethers.
I don't chat in them often, but will occasionally reply to a price check. Don't we have to use the /1. and /2. ?
I always put in the dot, but probably haven't had to the whole darn time. =P

Oh don't get me wrong.....
Every once in a while I'll see something in General or Trade and the little switch in my head goes SNAP! "OK, I can't let that comment go by without saying something!"
But in most cases you're dealing with someone intentialy out to harass folks. And when in a battle of wits with unarmed folks, winning the argument is rarely had and any feeling of accomplishment is lost because you feel like you just beat up a retarded kid.
I generally get my most rewarding digs when someone is trying to sell something and folks are telling them they are stupid for their asking price. And I can see that the median buyout price is actually way higher(Generally twink gear. Folks gotta make money somehow at those lowere levels).
It's nice to get that thank you from the player trying to sell something for a discounted price and you just told the whole server that their selling price is below AH values and they are getting a deal.
I try not to get sucked into most of the idiocy. I got dailies to do >^__^<
(But Chuck Norris is awesome. You know he denounced the periodic table. The only element he recognises is the element of suprise!)
