| Most frustrating way to lose Survivor title maybe? |

Doing Aurora Glade on my 1 year+ old Monk/Ele (Prophecies), who got Survivor (1) like 2 days ago...
During the pedestal phase, while the second wave of White Mantles starts rushing, the screen freezes and I lose connection. ISP goes down for half an hour.
When I make it back in: "You have died 1 time."
And I can't say I took shortcuts to work on that title. Besides fetching the basic NF heroes once in L.A. and filling up the last half of level 19 through 2 Factions quests, I pretty much did it the hard way... No Drok's armor, no running from high levels.
I've been close to dying maybe once, because I pushed it. That was during The Wilds, 3 players, 3 heroes. First monk goes d/c before reaching the bridge to the bonus area, leaving behind him Zhed and Master of Whisper as MM (prone to saccing like mad with both Blood of the Master and Verata's Sacrifice, with Signet of Lost Soul as only self heal). Second player was quick to leave... And I was running a Prot setup. Healing the MM with nothing but the Divine Favor bonus was funky. Almost smeared my pants when he sacced himself to near nothing, while I was standing among his minions, which conveniently enough all had Death Nova on... Still I managed, both mission and bonus.
Unless you've gone through that I doubt you can imagine how pissed off I am right now. I mean, when I lost Survivor on other chars, it was either that I borked things up, or an unfortunate interrupt or the like. Something IN GAME that I could have had some kind of influence upon... So basically it was "choke it up and move on".
But this time... FFS...
Honestly, I think ArenaNet should try to review that title's mechanics. Like dying makes the Survivor bar reset to the last tier you achieved or something...
Sorry if that sounded overly dramatic or something, though I'm not in a too good mood right now.

That was really unlucky , i would probably had pulled the internet cable out as soon as the screen froze , maybe turned comp off , or something like that =)
vety unlucky though

Nihzu, the way you approached things is rather weird, shortcuts you say? Not exactly.
I've had a Proph char go Survivor (just tier one) by getting a guildie to run to Lions Arch, go to kaineng, buy the ugliest, cheapest Max armor there is, and then do those simple quests in Kaineng Centre until none are available, avoiding the missions there. Then back to Tyria to do Galraths Quest 4000XP and doing each mission+bonus in Tyria that isnt life-threatening, basicly, none really.
That way you get lots of Experience safely, to increase you can even cap skills from bosses you come past for extra experience.
Nightfall Missions generally also aren't that survivor title threatening.
All you need is a few buddies to help you out from time to time, i had someone with heroes accompany me at all times, just make sure you got someone standing by incase you need some support, people often rush in blindly and thats when you lose that title track.

Yes and that's exactly what I didn't want to do. I refused help from other guild members unless they used characters of a level comparable to my Monk's.
Nor did I get Factions armor prior to getting to level 20.
Because I wanted my Survivor title to be a real achievement, not just a "hey my char filled up the XP bar so I apply for the title". No personal attack, I hope you understand what I mean there.
This aside, what are your opinions about my suggestion regarding the title's progression?

Ok, then i understand, you wanted to do it hard core and failed. Your choice though, only intention was to help, if you like it the hard way have it so :P
Well, whats there to say but ''Sucks for you'', unless you where downloading too much pr0n the ISP disconnect issue just happened, you cant reverse time, nor complain at Anet for that reason.
My Excuses really, just dont know what kind of comment else you expect besides sympathy's :/

Well I had monk that had xp around 1,3 mil.. so.. like 10k xp to get legendary i went afk and got pwned by hydras when i got back.. :P

heh you think a meaningless(for the most part) pve title loss due to a net is frustrating, last night durring our gvgs a-net decides to make 4 people not connect, wasnt a "lost connection" wasnt lagging out, was just 4 people didnt load, we were rank 900 at the time, lost to a 6k guild with heroes which blew up our rating big time

Actually, it's more like "My ISP failed me" heh...
Sympathy? Hardly, rather: what do you guys think about changing the mechanics for survivor as I mentioned at the end of the original post...

Meaningless in the grand scheme of things most probably, though as a personal reminder of commitment and dedication, I'd have glady taken it.

Still no feedback on my suggestion though.
Ok I think I pushed the violin envelope too much up there, though to clarify: I didn't come here looking for a shoulder to cry on, I've described an extreme case of mishap to try and raise the question of whether or not Anet should rethink that particular title (hoping they DO read forums here).

after three failed survivor titles I can definitely relate. However, that is not the most frustrating way to lose a survivor title. I left my lvl 19 paragon afk in Kamadan (yes I realize ppl always tell you to never go afk when going survivor, but I figured Kamadan was safe) and went to go eat pizza and watch some tv with some friends. Meanwhile my other friend decided to give me a surprise and went to LA and then got a run to Beacon's so that I could get a run to Droks and then get some armor. He must've not realized that I already had max armor or that I was working on survivor cause I died apparently to a mob of snow ettins that came through a portal and killed me while I was waiting for the runner to finish. I've never forgiven my "friend".

I lost LS on my monk when I was only 30k away from the max level, mainly due to an unexpected warrior KD spike (from like 3 at once, plus a boss; interrupted ALL my prot skills, even PS!). Stupid way to die, but definitely frustrating.
As to your suggestion about having it reset to the last level, I'm afraid that would probably make it too easy and forgiving, because then it really doesn't matter whether you die or not (unless you put a cap on the number of resets). I dunno, wouldn't seem as "pure" to me.
Others have suggested that you be able to begin accruing survivor XP from your last death, enabling any character to still get LS, even the ones that were around and died long before titles came out. I suppose I'm open to that, but maybe the title itself should be slightly different, like "Reborn Survivor" or something, so we can tell who the true "from lvl 1's" are (not that most people would care, probably.
BTW, I have to commend you on trying to do it the hardcore way (non-max armor, playing through, etc.). I got LS on my Paragon by playing through (i wasn't specifically trying for it; paras are just low on the enemy hit list, lol. Most people get their max armor and sit back and cap elites for it (I'm guilty of this on my sin).

Plus we all know Droknar has some really wonderful Paragon armor... That blows.

I don't know, you see anyway even in its current form, the title displays "what" you got, not "how" you got it. IMO a babysat survivor isn't all that "pure" either. Though I doubt going too much into that kind of details for a title would be 1. meaningful and 2. achievable at all :)

Lag is the biggest Survivor Killer for me :/ ive lost 4 of em to lag. Weird is the ONLY time i get lag so bad i d/c is when i go for survivor :/ but you know. Thats just my luck :P

Back when me and my friend were in AMP (alliance part of [ToD]). My friedn was splinter farming margonites to get his survivor title. When he got indominable survivor he stopped to announce it in alliance chat and while he was doing so the next wave came and wiped him out. XD

survivor title is the biggest pain to work without running to eotn and just punch for about 10 hours straight.
my last failed attempt was my factions ranger. i was running around on shing jea island at lvl 18 almost 19 and lag hit me. was standing out in the middle of nowhere with nothing around me and just couldn't move. after about a minute, I find that an oni had popped up and had gotten a free kill.
just wish anet had some sort of tester online that could stop critters if the players were lagging out

I got survivor on a necro leval 1 and shortly after found out about mystic regen felt kinda silly because I got to leval 20 on dark bond & armor of sanctity. I got my armor from eye of the north expansion and I went off into sunspear sanctuary grabbed mystic regen. I should have used aura of the lich like the comment in the guide said but, I got cocky and I didnt have a elite tome. With all my hench dead arround me. Castle swarming with corsairs. I decided to fight to the death then decided to run away. I ran into a swarm of popups insects who quickly humiliated me. I had to laugh I made survivor found out how much easyer it could have been then trying out the easy way got myself killed.
I think that when the monsters see the title the gloves are off. look on the bright side at least we got to leval 1

I understand your frustration (had the same thing when my sin died at 139k xp), but if Anet puts that in.. everyone would get rank 3 survivor as soon as they hit the 1,3m xp. This is, if I'm reading your words the right way. Though they might balance it a little.
For example: Characters from Factions or NF need more xp for rank 2&3.
