RE: New Mage on the scene

Popular recommendation for mages is that they spec into Frost, the Crowd Control means you hardly ever get hit when soloing. Plus Frost is popular in parties.

Other than that, let me refer you to Dru's guide, here.

And Dru may be around shortly, as her main is a Gnome Mage.

RE: New Mage on the scene

Generally speaking PvP is Frost and PvE is fire now which is a change of pace because it used to be all frost. Though I have seen a lot of people go heavy into the Arcane tree and kick my butt in the DPS even when I outgear them, I am wearing tier 5 equivilent and some kara stuff and they are still kicking my butt because their spec is different than mine, more arcane power stuff.

But for leveling I would suggest ice armor, improved arcane missiles and then picking whichever tree makes you happy. I think you can level just as easy in fire if you know how to play your toon because you can kill things very quickly. If you learn how to kite effectively as a mage you should be fine and everyone gets iceblock at level 30 now. But I also know that most mages play frost until they hit 60 or 70 now and then go fire to raid, so its all up to you. I cant really say one is better than the other because I personally dont play frost and I love fire.

mmmmmm nuclear bomb....

Dru
