Well since we've tanked our rating in GvG my guild has used the oppurtunity to play around with monk backlines, someone suggested 2 rt/mo healers, at first we didnt think they'd be able to keep a team up, but we gave them a try anyway. They seem to keep the team up as good, if not better than monks and have much better energy management. We use the following:
Spirit Light
Mend Body and Soul
Protective Spirit/Spirit Bond
Weapon of Warding
OFfering of Spirit
Protective Was Kaolai
Life
Holy Veil
Spirit Light
Mend Body and Soul
Infuse Health
Weapon of Warding
Offering of Spirit
Protective Was Kaolai
Recouperation
Holy Veil
we've played some decent teams with alot of teamwide pressure and spikes and these guys seem to be able to keep them up just fine, wondering what your guys' opinions were

hmm it seems with Meg gone PvP is now a dirty word (with the exception of Rogue and Wyat)

Its alright, but tbh rits are better at utility/support - and monks can pre-prot and crap better as well.
Also the need for spirits kinda gimps rits in GvG, as they are stationary - and if your in a GvG; your always moving around anyway, so it makes spirits most of the time pointless - that is unless your playing spiritway or ritspike crap.
EDIT: Moved.

^agree
spirits can be destroyed swiftly, making skills which requiere nearby spirits alot less effective, and you can only use them well if you aint moving...which you should.
monks just simply can't be replaced by rits, the infuse and prot is missing. only good thing is that weapon spells can't be removed but they are just too inmobile and unable to keep whole team alive with a balanced build.

its not a dirty word, it can't be helped if the majority of the people who use this forum are PVE players, I'm a PVE guy and i cant say that you would apreciate my completly pointless input into your rit builds, would you?

The reason ritualists might be working for you better than monks is because your monks are bad. Rits are healers, and don't have the prot skills that completely negate the need for healing. If your monks could preprot really well, you'd find that the double rits is really just kind of redundant.
The typical American backline looks like this:
[WoH][RoF][Guardian][Prot Spirit][Dismiss Condition][Aegis][Holy Veil][Utility Skill]
[RC][RoF][Guardian][Spirit Bond][Patient Spirit][Aegis][Holy Viel][utility skill]
The Utility skills are typically [SoA][Aura of Stability][Distracting Shot][Shield Bash][Balanced Stance] or something like that. Cure hex even.
Those monk builds are pretty generic, you can swap them around when you have a ton of party defense, like a ward or a paragon or a bsurge.
Typically we run them or a variant with some off monk party healing. Usually PWK on the Rt/A runner. We've basically stopped running paragons.

Personally I'd never run a rit just for healing and protting, monks are just better at it. Get your buddies to practice protting more I'm afraid =/
Oh and those commenting on PvP being a dirty word, it's not dirty, it's just rarely used. The majority of GA has and will always be focused on PvE. PvP-ers need to be heard by A-net for change and skill balances to made, and so you have to centralize your posts around websited where Izzy & co actually reads (or at least appear to *sigh*). There is not that much point in discussing PvP if there are so few to discuss with, and so few that actually takes notice of it. Everybody can jump into a game of GvG or HA and see the real-term effects of an update, that's not what most PvP-discussion revolves around.

personally i find the charging vorizun and channeling variants are how i've gotten any kills in AB besides fc nuke [insert /ponder fc healer threadjack here]
maybe to draw a parallel between rt prot & monk prot.
what about displacement and union, aren't those the equivalents of guardian and shielding hands, that reduces dmg yet one is stationary=bad if i'm fc nuking, heh.
there's always a few core copy cat skills (like equiv swd/axe/hamm attacks that do same effect/dmg), so there are some areas they may be equal and some areas they may surpass.
whatcha'll think about channeling vs smiting?
[threadjack]arcane echo, echo, spirit rift ....?
or...fc healer, any1 got some long casting time monk skills that would make or break a GvG if dished out by a mez?...I wonder if the character name Zealous Mesmer is available XD
