i know we all like holidays, but why not make St. Patty's day a holiday! instead, we in Canada get "Family Day" long weekend, but no St. Patty's day!
i ended up pretending it was St. Patty's day though, much like all holidays. :P if anyone knows what that means... lol...
anyway, there are some pretty senseless long-weekends here that i don't understand, not sure why students need so many weeks off now! kids now get 2 more weeks of holidays here than i got when i was in highschool! what gives?! so much has changed in a decade, no wonder when i try to strike up a convo with a gr. 12 student it fails in a wash of them mumbling and them looking at their feet! they aren't in school enough! that or the teachers are getting worse.
too much time off. hehe... wait a minute, i'm sorta self-employeed, and call my own hours, NVM. hehe, teachers need to get better ;) i'm just bitter that i didn't get so much time off.

Rave & Rants are born from people with too much time on their hands, so the fact your already posting kinda renders the whole ''Not enough Holidays'' invalid.
Still though, the best holidays are paid holidays on your boss's check, a meeting in Madrid, a ''Contract Signing'' in Moskow, oh yeah.

hehe, read the thread, i'm mad about something 10 years ago, not now. hehe, trust me, in HS, i would've loved to just not go to school, infact i did that most of the time and had as many unexcused absenses you could have without getting expelled from the class. =)

ooh, ohh, sry, didn't want to hit the edit button, i'm not complaining about 'not enough' holidays, more taht there are too many now... yep...
i do agree with the company thing though, CO trips are awesome, usually to fancy spas and end up eating fabulous foods and in a wash of single-malt scotch and fine wine!

There were a lot when I was in school. Though when we went on holiday the teachers would give us schoolwork over the holiday.
If not, my mom would give us some stuff to do. Teach us some things to challenge us. My mom never had to because I was clued to the history, discovery, travel, sci-fi and ninja turtles on tv. Growing up I wanted to be an archaeologist. I still do. Sometimes it is just up to the parents to make sure THEIR kids are getting educated.

Here (in Belguim) their are still certain (old) laws that will MAKE ous go have a day of.
For example, in the past every year their would be a grand Market where every farmer would show of their animals/vegetables/fruits. So, everybody got a day of on that day, but somehow it still applys to this day, although it's been decades since the last one (I even think it's illegal now).
Not to forget the 'resschooling' that teacher have to take every 6/12 months.
And at the school I attended we had one day to little of vacation. So they just gave ous a extra one random, to be correct with the law...
And that's only from the top of my head, go figure ...
