Farewell to a Server (Minor rant enclosed)

Some thirty plus months ago I left the champion server for the guardian server after creating a joke character (Kung-Law) that turned out surprisingly fun to play and would eventually make my main. I remember how the server was active, how the heroes were creative and the people behind the wheel were polite, sent tells before an invite, fun to team with and actually used the word “You” as opposed to “u”. Then once we had a team together we’d run a few missions then join up with a smart mouthed talking dog and journey to the land of the gumdrop king and... Sorry, kinda forgot where I was going with this. ANYWAY! After transferring colleges and starting my Pre-med courses time and disposable cash became premium items and I was forced to temporarily hang up my cape... or trench coat...or wings, whatever I don’t remember what I was wearing at the time.

Several months later when I returned I really couldn’t believe how much had changed. Teams were rare and people were just obnoxious. Don’t get me wrong there have always been people who insist on being “That guy” but here it was like everyone decided to be that guy.

I don’t know, I guess I just lost faith in my home server after seeing how far it’s fallen (In my eyes anyway). So I’ve decided to migrate to a new server. Having made and played several throw away toons on Triumph I figured that would be a good place to try to start over but having never played on it for more than a few hours, I’ve got a couple of questions about it.

I know it’s a light load server but how active is it? I mean, how long does it take to get a full, mission ready team together?

How would you rate the community? (Not including the GAA)

Does Triumph have a roleplaying community? If so, how large is it?

And finally, Why in the heck do they charge $10 a pop to transfer characters? I know they have to charge something to transfer or else people would abuse the service but $10 seems a bit much to transfer a bit of data from one server to another. Is there more work in the transfer process than I originally thought?

Triumph is probably still my main server, although lately I am there only once a week. I am part of several roleplaying SG on both sides of the law. But I can't really tell you how busy the server is these days. For one I play EU times, so it is always quiet, and more importantly when I play I only play there on fixed times with the people from my SG. I know they play other times too, and mostly on Triumph, but since they are 8 hours behind I never see them :)

On top of that I know of a couple of really great SG's on Triumph that are all connected and have some great global chat channels, and even have several Ampers in them. When I was active with them I was never without a group. Global Heroics, Fusion Force and The Wild Cards are all really great SG's. Talk to pathofwrath or dougnukem and you'll enter a great community. Even I could set you up, but I am probably a bit harder to catch.

Triumph is deceiving.
When you look at the population numbers, we don't show much. But I've always seen plenty of folks online. There are plenty of friendly SGs, active channels for badgers, TFs, exc. I head Global Heroics, which is part of a great Coalition along with Fusion Force and Wild Cards (their url is eluding my thoughts atm).

I moved to Triumph a couple years ago from a much more busy server, Justice, and I haven't regretted it since. Give me a shout in game @dougnukem or @dougnukem2, as I'm almost all the time after work. :p

im still on guardian, and yes the population is dwindling, but i know enough people as a 2 year vet to do what i want.

my point:

dont ever again dis the $10 fee. its very cheap. WoW charges 25 i believe, and then restricts the servers you can transfer to.

so it could be alot worse with CoH

WOW currently is $25 bucks to transfer 1 character to a 2nd account that falls under the same name as per the EULA. COX is definitely nice at only costing $10.00.

WoW charges 25 bucks for server transfers on the SAME account too. Although honestly, I'd pay 25 bucks if I could move one of my 50s to my alternate account.

Yeah the 10$ is really generous, but as Ron had says: It has to stay on the same account. Other than giving the characters to family/friends, I don't mind. I dont and probly never will have more than 1 personal account to a game.

Thanks for all the help. I'm going to look into joining one of the mentioned SGs next chance I'm on. As for the transfer price. I didn't know other MMOs charged so much. Compared to WoW's $25 a pop, CoX's $10 is cheap.

Not to rain on you but maybe it’s not that the server changed but you did, growing old is a horrible thing.

Most newbies will play on the fuller servers. The rest are populated by the more “serious” player. I have noticed that Truimph’s SGs tend to be better thought out, not just a bunch of toons through in together.

I started out here, moved to Freedom and Virtue. Guess what? I always return to get together with the rest of Nukem High.
